I will be 66 this year and all my bicep work is done on the Scott Preacher Bench.Cable ,Curls, Dumbbell Curls and EZ Curl Bar curls. Although I will probably never have the 21 inch biceps I had when I was 25 I sure wish this channel existed in the 70's and 80's because I feel with the proper information like what this channel provides growth potential would be unlimited for a young bodybuilder. THANKS!

Well played still training brother, love that. What split do you currently follow ? Did you stay with 70s splits or go into 90/2000s single body part splits ?

@@Nik2555 I have been working out 7 days a week,no more than 30 to 40 minutes per day. No bench presses only because I have heard of people younger than me ( 66 ) having heart attacks after bench presses. I do supersets and triple sets on every body part. I think not lifting at my age is worse than pushing heavy iron everyday.

It just goes to show how tight knit the bodybuilding community was in the 60s and 70s. All the athletes were experimenting with different exercise variations and willing to help others. This comradery is why I love this sport!

I’m 40 years old and even now I realize more than even how important preacher bench curls are. I have even heard Ronnie Coleman say that if he had to resort to just one biceps exercise it would be the dumbbell preacher curl. Because of my tendinitis in my elbow I was forced to stop these but years later just recently reintroduced to this by the Pro Bodybuilder Justin Compton stated he too had problems with tendinitis with this exercise but with the easy curl machine preacher he said he had little to no problems. So then I tried just the other week and my arms blew up like balloons and sudden growth later appeared around the lower portion of my biceps. I am very happy to be able to do these again but now more intelligent by using mainly lighter to medium weight as Justin Compton preferred to feel the muscles flex and work. I also believe that working each arm individually from time to time is paramount to strengthen the weaker biceps and keep a balanced arm strength and size. Thanks tremendously for this great video.

Great Video. One thing I have noticed lately was that Arnold also had GREAT TRAPS...have you ever come across anything that he did to build them up? Arnold was flat out AMAZING but is usually highlighted for his incredible chest and arms...his Traps look phenomenal too!

By learning from Larry Scott, Arnold realized the positive effects of using the preacher curl. That piece of equipment is great for concentrating on the biceps. Arnold's arms look like they are exploding while lifting the weights. I used a preacher bench many years ago but do not have access to that equipment now. Good video on curls.

I made a make shift preacher bench when I was a kid. I got great results. I still do preacher curls but I prefer to use a low cable with attachments for various grips instead of barbells and dumbbells. I think using a cable is easier on the elbows.

This is a very interesting video for me, as I was curious for 50 years about Schwarzenegger‘s arm routine, as he NEVER mentioned the preacher ever, except there were pics of him using one. He never mentioned in his arm routine. I would disagree that it’s only for lower biceps; that also depends on the pad angle, the area of ROM used, whether cable curls are used, which are incredible by the way, etc. Larry Scott must’ve agreed with me, because all his bicep work was on the preacher. I wish Schwarzenegger had also included the tricep pedestal in his workouts, which was always the far lesser-known tricep version of the preacher bench. But of course, golds didn’t have one, though he could’ve askedto make one. Back then the special pulley and leverage machines were all custom-made; same thing in New York City, where Sheridan, Square gym, the only other serious competitor to mid city gym, had a number of great custom made leverage pieces including a great leverage preacher curl machine. I remember that short window spring of 74 when he started promoting the arm blaster, something of a variation on the preacher bench.

Freeweight one arm at time superior to everything. You can lift more (imo) with a little bit momentum and different sitting position. And you can choose so many angles how to perform the reps and hit bicep different all preferred what you want.

Definitely free weight ez curl bar with a 8 to 12 rep set to failure then have a spotter to assist you on pushing the bar up on a fast twitch explosive concentric then slowly bring the bar down to focus on resisting as much as you can on eccentric to as many reps as you can to failure.

If you can't get a preacher bench you can use a arm blaster for curls. The purpose of the arm blaster, is so you maintain strict form. It works if you use it properly. Don't use a ridiculous amount of heavy weight , because you will either pull a muscle, or start cheating by swinging your body to get the weight up.

Of course something was lacking when he got here, 'maturity', he was a 19 year old kid, obviously he would keep getting better until he peaked at age 25 in 1974. He already had his peak way before preacher curls. He figured out how to swing his curls without letting the elbows come up or go back like so many idiots do today at the gym, (even so called pros), and he did his secret move the bent over double concentration curl with both arms.

Interesting how Arnold, who was basically a genetically gifted student of these master trainers and bodybuilders.. was so promoted as a teacher and an icon here in America. When much more knowledgeable trainers like Mentzer were way ahead of their time and spending much less time achieving similar growth and yet their ideas were swept under the rug at the time. I wonder if Arnold didn't meet the socialist leftist poster boy agenda so perfectly, if he would have been as wildly successful as he is. Remember his covid message? "To hell with your freedoms, comply!" Poster boy indeed.
