Hi Carl Just found your channel as I was looking for a mic solution for video recording with an Iphone. I do most of my video recording outside while I work so blocking wind is a concern. It seems the more I invest in mics to try and up my game the worse it gets. I currently have three different external mics (two are Rode) and the sound on my last few videos is terrible. Due to the work I do a lapel mic is not a good fit. Do you have any suggestions. I'm not going to ask you to sub but if you need to see what I'm talking about feel free to take a look. I was just looking at the Zoom IQ7. Don't know anyone who owns one and I just hate to keep throwing money at the problem with no good results. Thanks in advance if you're able to help at all.
Hi Randy, Thanks for the message. I checked out your channel and a few of your videos. Your videos are fascinating! I was blown away watching you work and was amazed by how adeptly you handle the bees. Not surprised by how many subscribers you have and the views you get. I also really like your editing and music choices. Great job! Now as to your question about iPhone microphones. I see why a lapel wouldn't be a good fit. The IQ7 seems way too big, IMO. And it's got the adjustment knob so it seems a bit fiddly, especially considering what you're doing. The Rode mic that I saw in the Stealing Swarm Traps video (which was very cool, btw) is a decent mic if you're close and talking right into it, as I'm sure you've discovered. Maybe you can try the Edutige EIM-001 microphone and the EWS-003 furry windscreen. Here are some videos of those two in action: + Outside when it's windy: th-cam.com/video/5hHvDfoUwiY/w-d-xo.html + EIM-001 vs iPhone built in mic outside: th-cam.com/video/BuGlio9kWv4/w-d-xo.html + For birding by a researcher: th-cam.com/video/AcK9TXLypUM/w-d-xo.html The biggest issue that I can see, though, is proximity. The EIM-001 will boost audio volume for sure. That's what it was made to do. But like any microphone, the closer you are, the better. Have a listen to those samples and see what you think. The EIM-001 is way more affordable than the IQ7, as well. Hope that helps and keep up the great work. Carl
Thanks Carl I'll give it a shot. Sure looks like it would might for me. I like the compact size too. The Rode Video Mic Pro is too big for what I'm doing most of the time. The Rode Video Mic ME is glitchy especially if you're shaking or moving the phone around and like you said, works pretty good if you're talking right into it otherwise everything is muffled and can't be fixed in editing. Funny that my channel is doing as well as it is. I had no intent of ever doing anything like this. I set the channel up to learn how to use TH-cam to promote an insurance business and just started recording my hobbies to have something to upload. Probably won't be in insurance much longer. LOL Thanks again for the reply.
Yea, that's why I like the EIM-001. It works from any direction and it's small. Let me know how it works out. LOL. Yes, the insurance business can wait. Your channel is doing well because you upload great content and do so regularly. And I think people like you, and especially the way you work with the bees. It's unique and fascinating to watch. Pretty cool stuff!
