    Thanks so much for these great videos. Please do a video on what causes transactions to get stuck in "Pending" status. And please explain replay/re-attach/rebroadcast. Does doing extra PoW (setting a higher minimum weight in the wallet) improve the chances of a transaction being confirmed? Looking for the excellent detail and clear explanation that you always offer. Thanks!

    if you have not followed the "preparation" stage, because you just found out about the snapshot, and you do not know the number of addresses you previously had. IF i start reattaching addresses (lets assume i had10 before), if i reattach a good amount of 20 lets say (much higher ) would that work? or do i have to reattach exactly the number of previous addresses, otherwise reattaching more could potentially make my balance lost? noob question sorry
    Nice video btw

      If you attach more addresses than you had previously would not cause any problems. You are just waisting your time and computing power to attach extra unnecessary addresses, but it will NOT cause any problems.

    What happens if I leave iota on paperwallet?

    when snapshot is done and the data will be gone and only the transaction non-zero values are left, does it mean that if I want to keep the data, then it is better for me to keep a permanode by myself and do not ever do a snapshot? what if instead I only connect to IOTA foundation's permanode for good?

      If you are a business and you rely on data on the Tangle you do not want to be deleted you have two choices:
      1) Setup your own node and never do a snapshot (=Permanode)
      2) Or use a permanode. But I have not found a permanode (except thetangle.org, but it does not allow you to execute IOTA api's). In the future there will be permanodes but probably you need to pay them for their services.

    Hi There! Do I need to reclaim IOTA after a snapshot if the IOTAS are held in an exchange such as bitfinex and Binance? Thanks

    • @Mobilefish
      @Mobilefish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You do NOT need to reclaim IOTA after a snapshot if the IOTAS are held in an exchange such as bitfinex and Binance.
      The 'OLD' reclaim issue you are referring to is described here:
      blog.iota.org/claims-and-reclaims-finalization-e692844c505a
      In short people were reusing their private key. The IOTA team took the decision to protect IOTA token holders by taking those funds which were at risk into temporary custody through a snapshot.
      The list of addresses involved can be found in the link.
      The current snapshot 28 Jan, 2018 does not requires any reclaim steps.

    Thanks for your Video. What would you do in my scensrio:
    I created a seed on MacOS wirh terminal and then got the index 0 address of this seed to send my iota to. My transaction to this address is confirmed.
    I never entered the seed into the light wallet. I did it all offline. I did not use any more addresses of the seed. There is only just the one receiving transaction to my forst receiving address. Should I prepare anything?

      @Mobilefish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, you do not need to do anything. These instructions are only for people using the IOTA light wallet. After a snapshot they see that the balance is 0 in the IOTA light wallet and freak out. But i do recommend that you checkout your address if it still contains the balance, just to make sure. After the snapshot is done of course.

    If I have my IOTA in Bitfinex, do I have to do this steps? Or the exchange will do it automatically?

    • @Mobilefish
      @Mobilefish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This only applies if your hold your IOTAs in the IOTA Light Wallet.

    I have a question. I did not do anything before the snapshot. After the snapshot I simply clicked on "Attach to tangle" and all my total balance was restored. But I'm sure I had more than one address in my history before the snapshot. Do I need to continue clicking "Attach to tangle" or are my funds safe?

    • @Mobilefish
      @Mobilefish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer you question correctly I need to know the following:
      1) Have you send IOTAs to anyone using the same seed?
      2) Have you received payments on DIFFERENT addresses on the same seed?

    • @ezemdianosike5277
      @ezemdianosike5277 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. I have not sent IOTAs to anyone using the same seed
      2. I received two payments from the same address (from an exchange).
      P.S - Initially I used an online seed generator (even though my computer was offline when the seed was generated I am not 100% comfortable). So I am in the process of transferring all my funds to a new seed. I suppose my initial inquiry is now moot.
      Feel free to add anymore insights on seed and address hygiene. Thanks!!

      @Mobilefish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is good to transfer all your funds to a new seed.
      But to answer your original question, just in case someone else wants to know the answer:
      1) Your exchange has send two payments to the same address 0.
      2) You probably pressed the button "Attach to Tangle" one or times creating address 1...N
      That is why you saw more than one address in the history.
      3) After the snapshot, you pressed "Attach to Tangle" once, which restored your balance because it was all stored in address 0.
      4) AFTER step 3, there was NO need to press the button "Attach to Tangle" more times. Your funds were safe FOR THIS SPECIFIC SITUATION.
      But normally you need to recreate the same number of addresses as you had before!

      when you transfer funds to new seed, how do you generated that seed safely?

    Its my first Snapchot since im holding IOTA. Is this the exact same way every snapshot?

    • @Mobilefish
      @Mobilefish  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but when the Trinity wallet is available then this procedure is not needed.

      I had 2 addresses but i see my Balance now after 1 generated address.. Should i generate a secound addresse again too?

    • @Mobilefish
      @Mobilefish  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you had 2 addresses BEFORE the snapshot create 2 addresses AFTER the snapshot.
