Hi Bull. I did the same thing. The forecast was for 35F, so I figured covering the seedlings would suffice. About 11:00 pm, the forecast changed with a freeze warning and 31-32F temp. It was too late to go outside and bring the plants in. I can't carry a flashlight, and use both hands to carry the seed trays inside. The frost killed most of my pepper and tomato seedlings. Most of what I planted for my garden survived, but I had to start seed starts for a few, Corona di Toro peppers, Dad's Sunset Tomatoes, and Sun Gold cherry tomatoes. I have enough other seedlings left in good shape to supply my garden, my mother's garden, and a neighbor or two, but not enough for a plant sale. My last round of seed starts are sprouting, Black Beauty Zucchini, Lemon Squash, Crookneck Squash, Hearts of Gold Cantaloupe, Sugar Baby Watermelon, Beit Alpha cucumbers, and Katrina Cucumbers. Another freeze is in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday. After it passes, I'll sow herb seeds in the garden.
Here in Michigan I learned the hard way that we get the bok choys out as early as possible to avoid they bolting, even one day of sunny low 70s weather can push some of them over the edge LOL. I find they do well here in partial shade, so I grow them up against our garage. They're so worth the hassle of trying to keep them from bolting, they grow so big, so fast, and taste so good in so many ways. Very nice harvest you had there, bull!
They bolt so easily, I usually stick to growing boc choy in late fall to avoid them bolting. Like you say, it’s so delicious and such a beautiful plant
What zone are you in and what month did you plant and grow them? I am in Georgia and the 2 grocery stores in my town are totally out of bok choi. I wondering if I can grow them indoors under a grow light from seed to harvest thru the winter
Hello @TheBullsGarden your video popped up just in time today. I’m growing Bok Choi this year for the first time. I found your video very helpful. Right now they are in 4”pots and growing like crazy. I will put them in larger pots tomorrow. I hope my Bok Choi will grow as beautifully as yours. I’m Ms J from Las Vegas Zone 9B. Be Blessed and Thanks for sharing.
Yes I will definitely remember that Bok Choi does NOT like the heat@@TheBullsGarden. I have been clipping it and adding it to my morning smoothies and Sophie (my beagle) loves Bok Choi also. As a matter of fact Sophie is NOT allowed on the patio alone because she loves to eat my plants. Last year that little brat ate my whole BASIL plant and a few other plants. I will enjoy my Bok Choi until the Vegas heat whips us with those triple digits. Thanks again Brother Bull. Be Blessed and have an amazing Gardening week. I just harvested the last of my Collard Greens.......guess what I'm having for dinner tonight🥬🥬🥬😊
You can pick a few leaves at a time from all of them on the days you want to cook some. That’s a good option for home use, like a cut-&-come again plant. That way, you get to enjoy them longer before they all bolt.
The bok choy , can not handle warm weather it bolts easily and the plant will start flowering to set seeds. With Bok Choy it’s necessary to harvest at that point. Usually we want to harvest our brassicas before they start flowering but it’s a problem
I’m not the best at up-potting. Ad fertilizing. How often do you fertilize? Are you on a schedule? You are good at that. How’s the exercise and the weight loss going?
I basically fertilize once heavily with blood meal and bone meal when I first plant them. I don’t like up-potting them but in this case I had to. My exercise routine is great, I’m down 16 pounds 😊
@@tritun5154 Great question, the only reason I don’t grow them in the ground is the boc choi stays nice and clean in the containers and pest issues are basically zero, I can also better control their fertilization
@@TheBullsGarden the container u transplant them into. Why can’t u start in that. Once they get leggy like they’re supposed to do, just add soil to prop it up instead of starting then in a smaller container and transplanting into a larger one and then prop them up with extra soil(or plant them deeper
@@TheBullsGarden I’m doing them this year. They all bolted due to the heat waves we’ve got but now I’m planning on saving those seeds and try indoors with them this winter with my grow light. First time trying to harvest seeds. Great video btw
@@tritun5154 you have a great point and I’m always looking forward to trying new ways when possible, I usually go fro seed trays to the larger ones. I love boc choi and can’t wait to start them again this fall
Ive never tried bok choy, I'm not much on greens unless I can eat it raw. I really like broccoli but only raw. I grow cabbage , collards, mustard and turnips for my son . I'll eat the cabbage raw but not cooked. I know I'm weird brother lol. Jesus got a lot of weird kids 🙌

Awesome yes follow those steps and your boc choy will grow nicely, remember though boc choy doesn’t live heat at all, will bolt almost overnight

What is the best Bok Choy 🥬 variety? Some are small & others are big leaves but do they taste different? Curious 🤨.
I usually grow boc choy or pac choi, the taste is very similar however to me
Why can’t u just add an in of soil into your container instead of transplanting? Just curious
