Great vid! My daughter is in college. Her 2nd year. She been crocheting plushies. Last summer she was a RA and brought her projects with her working at a desk. She got 8 orders from other students who wanted one. She brings it to her hyvee store and works on them on her breaks. She brings then on vaca with her boyfriend and gets several more orders. My tip would be to get a flyer or business card with your contact info and have them ready to give out. Also carry a notebook of some kind to capture their contact info and what they wanted. Be ready with prices so you can secure their order with 50% or more non-refundable down payment. That way you have money to get their materials, even if you have supplies on hand...you still to replace it. Also, digital products is considered passive income. It works while you sleep with little effort. You create it once then promote it on social media. Etsy is the perfect place to sell them or of course google drive for freebies. One listing on Etsy can upload 5 digital files. Pdf files is easy to make and doesnt take alot of bytes. I also do mp3's that is 14 mins or less and sell those too. People like recordings too. Consider this if you get comments like you are easy to listen too or your vouce is so soothing or I can sleep to your vidoes. When you record a video, record it in an audio format too. To draw in views, have a digital files that is very low in price or free. On etsy, you have to charge sonething. Katie does a great job doing this! It brings in new subscribers that look at her content and want to connect. Have a fun creating what you love! Your excitement for your products will draw people in and want to buy from you too! Ty for sharing! 💖💖💖
“Very supportive parents “ Not everyone comes from the same resources and starting points. I feel like those who have had success in life have a great support system. It’s not easy to even get started when you come from a place of loneliness and and criticism from those who you love
You’re very right! That’s why I mentioned all of that in this video. I am very lucky to have the support. And as of recent crochet in no longer by full-time job. Doesn’t work out for everyone and it started to not work out for me. Was just sharing my experience and how it worked for me because I was making good money at the time but that ended so I got a “real job” like everyone said to 😊
Hi Katie! I’ve been posting on YT since April and just started up my blog. I loved this video! I appreciate you sharing actual info that’s helpful. I will watch any video that crochet business related!
That’s awesome! Keep up the great work on your channel and blog! So glad you liked this video and I definitely have a lot of crochet business videos planned for the future! :)
I just found your channel recently and am really liking it. This was super informative and gave me the motivation and thought that I can do it to start selling stuff. I've crocheted for years but thought I wasn't really good enough to sell but this video made me think maybe I am, maybe I can do it. So thank you! :)
I love you Katie, you are such an inspiration to me, a very upbeat positive personality too. Thanks for your videos and advice. I am a mom of 4, some of my children are adults =) -looking for help with my home crochet business. Your videos are great and helpful.
Hello Katie, you are such an inspiration I have been wanting to start selling my crochet items and you give the confidence to go and do that. Also I think that if you made a tips for crochet TH-cam that would be super helpful I am wanting to start a channel soon.
Aw thank you so much! I’m so glad I’ve been able to inspire you to start selling your crochet! And I definitely plan to make a video on starting a crochet TH-cam channel soon :)
I have watched a couple of your videos tonight, and I am really enjoying the I formation you share. I would love to see a video on how to start on TH-cam...thank you for offering the opportunity to request.
I am so impressed at your knowledge and experience and very thankful for your compassion for all the crafters that are following THANK YOU so much~~~!!!!!
Hi Katie!! I just recently started my TH-cam channel. I wish I would have started crocheting in high school lol but now I'm 29. Love your inspiration and tips!!
Great info thank you. Market stalls vary in price from $30 to $150 per stall. Country markets are much cheaper. And locals are so supportive. I live in Western Australia 😊
Hi Katie I am retired and I volunteer a gift shop where I live. I also have my crochet towels and an other gift shop as well. Plus I do sell to family and friends too. And at my church family
Hi Katie…. It’s Sheryl again 😅. You are fabulous at what you are doing and at your age you are going to be very successful. I have crochet since I was 9 so like 45 yrs. A year or so I started ramping up my crochet in hopes of transitioning to a crochet business as I get close to retirement. Can you explain how to incorporate instagram…. I’m not savvy with those types of sites.
Aw thank you so much that is very sweet! As far as using Instagram for your business, basically just start out with posting what you are selling. I plan to make a few videos in the future on how I use social media to grow my business, my strategies, etc. but for now I’d say it might be a good idea to check out other peoples videos on the topic of social media because I’m definitely not an expert lol!
How i figure price is material cost + min wage x .25 % markup ( for light, tags, crochet supplies, etc ) = my price ( with possibility of military discount or thankyou blessing discount )
The easiest way is just to get a tripod that you can angle downward to show what you’re doing. I’ve also placed my phone in the front of my shirt or jacket to record my hands but that definitely isn’t as sturdy
Thank you for the information. I am really trying to get started my daughter and grandson says I should put my work out there. I am afraid I did one video and put it out on TH-cam.
I’ve watched so many other videos like this and in all of them people say you need a way for advertising and the best way is TH-cam or social media. How in the world were you able to sell things before that.
The only way I was able to sell beforehand was to family and friends and going to local pop up markets! You’d be surprised how much markets can help you get your name out there and grow a customer base :)
You may already have a video on this that I haven't found yet, but how do you keep up your stock of materials? I feel like I am at the store multiple times a week to get more of one color or a color I don't yet have.
I haven’t actually done a video on this! I normally try to keep around the same amount of yarn in stock (for example for blanket yarns I usually have 1 full skein of each color and for popular colors like black and white I try to have 2) and as I use up those skeins I keep a list of what colors I need to restock on! I like to keep the list on my phone that way if it’s a good deal will I’m in store I already know what I need and as long as they have the yarn in stock I get it while I’m near the stores or make a special trip if I’m running low on a lot of yarns or if they have a good sale and I want to stock up! I hope this helps! :)
@@katiebeingcreative It absolutely does. I've always had a fairly decent size personal yarn stash, but it definitely hasn't been a good market and sales stash. 😅
That is understandable! That is why when crochet was my full-time job a lot of my income was through online platforms. It’s a lot to have your sole income be just from items you make
