My husband and I are planning to relocate to Boquete in the future and now doing my research. We’re planning to sell our home in CA, and purchase property there. I’m sure we will need a realtor to make the transaction. Need to know how that will affect taxes here after we sell our home??

The taxes on your sale in the USA are directly handled in USA. When you buy your property here, you can use the services of a real estate agency such as House Hunters Panama to help you search for your house here and explain anything you need to know. In Panama you pay property taxes calculated based on the amount and size of the property bought. And your lawyer and agent used in the transaction will guide you but just to let you know the property taxes in Panama are approximately 1-2%. I live between Colorado, USA and Boquete -- My observations -- Most Gringos relocating to Boquete will be gone in 3 years ; UNLESS-- you learn, at least, basic Spanish, integrate into community ( do not just stay within expat community) and do some community service ( such as aiding in schools). Cost of living in Panama is generally 50% of living in Colorado USA ; so if you are just only looking for low cost of living, Thailand & Vietnam is 75% less than in USA. Wherever you go, do something with your retirement time, to benefit the locals.

It’s important to go beyond the expat bubble and contribute to the community, as it enriches the overall experience of living here. We personally LOVE Boquete - the organic farms / food, fresh air and nature and it is one of the main reasons we expanded our company to Boquete, we love to share how special it is to the world.
