I'm so glad I know about this gem. Brian sounds like he may have been homeless. Considering he retired when he was 30 so he could play Donkey Kong full time, that's wouldn't be super surprising lmao

Hmmm, there seems to be a lot of strange stories that come out of the competitive arcade community. A lot of drama, a lot of mythology surrounding certain characters and events.

There's a ton of drama in really any community. I used to be part of a group that would make animated films using action figures (Stop Motions) this was a community dedicated to amateur film makers in their bedrooms/basements spending free time making movies that would only get seen by a couple hundred different people at most, yes there was drama. People would bash other people for not using the best film techniques or not the most unique storylines, etc. This was over the course of 5 years with a group of about 20-40 people at any time in the real clique. Drama is just something that naturally happens in groups.
I've played Friday Night Magic (Trading Card Game) as the same place for the last couple years nearly every Friday and drama has occurred there. People talking behind people's back about using cheap tactics, acting weird in public, etc.
That's any close-nit groups, they're just is going to be drama. It's inevitable. Now was the majority of these two groups drama filled? Of course not. And not necessarily all drama was facetious, just petty nonsense.

Lol he auctioned off his paycheck one week where he worked 111 hours in an arcade. The check is for $600. The auction called him “the real star of king of Kong”
