I was so upset that y'all didn't understand kyoto but then I realized it's probably because you guys have a good parent-child relationship 😭 wish I could relate LMAO
I was getting a little frustrated you guys didn't understand Kyoto, but then I realized that you guys have this channel because you have a good parent-child relationship lmao, happy you liked the album!!
fun fact: by listening to Graceland Too you've officially listened to your first boygenius song! Boygenius is Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, all three sing in Graceland Too which is a song about Julien. So if you liked that one, you'll love The Record!
@@malalias3772 I would suggest most of the songs from The Record!! Maybe you should try listening to $20 and True Blue (since those are more popular) and see what you like from there :))
a cool detail to moon song: when phoebe says "and if i could give you the moon, i would give you the moon" shes talking about multiple things here, but one of them being giving this person all of herself. the name phoebe is actually a latinized form of the greek name "phoibe". which is the name of a greek titan associated with the moon. its such a layered lyric its so cool
wow y’all would LOVE Hozier. Haven’t been the same since I first got into his music, his new album Unreal Unearth is absolutely incredible. Heart wrenching lyrics and such a beautiful voice
I know the end is a masterpiece. Its like the whole album is building up waiting for release and bam i know the end hits and she lets everything go. Phoebe is a poet and storyteller
i highly recommend watching a live performance of "i know the end". i got to see her on her tour for this album and the chaos of the band onstage really hits
Phoebe (trauma dumps about her alcoholic father who’s not present trying to make amends, and her having a hard time forgiving him) Put you on: it’s such a fun song, I love how she throws random stuff out there…it’s really not a serious song just something fun.
please PLEASE do stranger in the alps and boy genius. graceland too is my favourite song ever, it makes me so emotional because after all the hardships they’ve been through in their lives, being sat with their friend on mdma eating saltines looking at the moon was enough to make them realise there are things and people to live for. even if it’s just a tiny second of happiness. the song is also rumoured to be about boy genius bandmate, julien.
Graceland Too is one of the best in her entire discography (in my biased opinion) and it hurts on a personal level that some people write it off because they hear what is basically a country song
Oh to experience Phoebe for the first time again. She’s special. Her writing and instrumentation, her singing style, it’s all just so well crafted and fitting. Y’all are gonna love Boygenius and her first record (I hope you check those out, even if it’s just on your own time and not for the channel!)
Punisher DVD Menu - 3:23 Garden Song - 4:47 Kyoto - 8:46 Punisher - 12:14 Halloween - 16:43 Chinese Satellite - 21:04 Moon Song - 25:15 Savior Complex - 29:34 ICU - 33:52 Graceland Too - 37:12 I Know The End - 41:31
Finally!!! Yes, please do Boygenius, The Record! Phoebe said in an interview that Graceland Too is a Boygenius song. I've seen Phoebe live at the Greek in LA after this album came out. I believe the reference in Halloween is about Brian Stowe, a Giants fan, who was horribly beaten outside of Dodger stadium. I saw Billie as well, and she brought Phoebe out for Motion sickness...Billie also brought out Boygenius in London to sing When the Partys Over. Boygenius is a supergroup, and that isn't saying enough... we saw them twice this year (my husband and I who are 50 yo). Listen to their EP, The Record, and the Rest. Also, Phoebes Stranger in the Alps. Sorry, but I'm not sorry for a disjointed yet genuine comment. Better Oblivion Community Center is great too, another band Phoebe is in.
if you like tragic heartbreaking albums, you should def listen to Preachers Daughter by Ethel Cain. It is a concept album and tells a horribly tragic story if you listen front to back. Lots of lore, but most of the genius annotations are direct quotes and explanations from the artist herself. Mindblowing production and storytelling. Highly reccomend it.
I am a hardcore swiftie but this is the BEST ALBUM we've had this past decade. You guys will love stranger in the alps as well. Love yall!!!!!! Thanks for all this great content.
I'll never forget listening to this after being shut in due to covid and weeping on my couch. I saw her in concert in 2021 and it was one of the first shows I saw post lock down. It was one of the most cathartic and meaningful experiences of my life. I'll never forget that night. This album is my favorite piece she's created.
this is the only phoebe bridgers album i’ve given a proper chance and it’s probably one of my most listened to albums ever i just keep coming back to it - it’s one of those you just want to listen to with good headphones in a dark room and just experience it but then also you want to run in the rain with this as the soundtrack (have done - recommend) because it’s just incredible. you should really look into the lyrics and the subject/meaning of kyoto and chinese satellite - a couple of my personal favourites that REALLY hit harder once you get it. and i know the end truly is just one of the best songs i’ve ever heard i’m glad you agreed! always love when you guys react to one of my favourite albums it’s so much fun and i love that you loved this one!! would love to hear your thoughts after a few listens and how much more you appreciate it!!
it's one of your "most listened to albums ever" yet you still haven't gone back and checked out her debut album that won Grammys? 😅 what are ya waitin' for, silly? get on it! 😉🤭
sooo glad you got round to this, she is just amazing. boygenius is wonderful too, the record is such a beautiful album, i couldn't recommend it enough. another non-phoebe related project you should check out is 'songs' by adrianne lenker. she's one of the most incredible songwriters and vocalists right now, her lyrics are so unique and the music is spell-binding!
love the way you guys reacted to this! would love to see you react to a mitski album especially be the cowboy! they’re quite different artists but there’s a lot of overlap in phoebe bridgers and mitski fans :)
All of her collaborations are amazing in addition to her solo stuff. I’d also recommend her collaboration with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes, Better Oblivion Community Center.
i know the end is one of my favorite songs of all time. the emotional catharsis at the end is such an intense experience and i think that completely summarizes the feel of the entire album wrapped up into a beautiful ending. please listen to the record by boygenius, the song “not strong enough” has a very similar feel
Checking out boygenius' "the record" definitely is worth it! But heads up, "Letter To An Old Poet" hits harder if you listen to "Me and My Dog" (a song from their first EP) first. Because both are connected musically and lyrically. Also, "the rest" is an Ep that they put out after dropping "the record", and it has some AMAZING four songs that should have been in the album, but were cut/ not included in the end. "Black Hole" is a trip.
I am excited for you guys to possibly get into her other projects, such as Boygenius (the other members of the band are singing on Graceland too), Better Oblivion Community Project (with Bright Eyes, or Connor Oberst, who she dated and sings on some of this album), and then her bandmate Lucy Dacus, who I think would make you cry a lot and has one of the most beautiful voices and poetic writing styles I've heard. I've been waiting for you guys to react to Phoebe for so long!!!! You didn't disappoint
If you haven’t already please listen to HOZIER. His music is art and also changed my life and perspective. Please please please he needs more recognition
“i love the horns” - during kyoto me knowing “i know the end” exists 😏 this album is on my best albums of all time list and it’s number one. it’s truly unbelievable if you really take in all parts - sonically, melodically, lyrically, emotionally. it’s a masterpiece. i can listen to this for the 600th time and still feel impressed.

you guys should definitely listen to Boygenius’ The Record as well as Stranger in the Alps! The Record really got me through last summer and the three artists are amazing together. Stranger in the Alps is also just so cozy and shows off Bridgers’ amazing lyricism so well. Hope you guys enjoy them, and thanks for the videos!!! I love finding new music with you guys :)

Please listen to Stranger in the Alps, Boygenius EP, the record, and even Better Oblivion Community Center (her album with Conor Oberst). Entire discography is immaculate. The writing is consistently this strong across every project.

This was a great video thank you guys. Punisher is an incredible album and Phoebe is one of my favourites. Highly recommend her other albums, including her work with Boygenius. And if you like their stuff, check out Lucy and Julien's solo work, some fantastic songs
punisher is written about her love for elliot smith and graceland too is written about her friend julien baker which is a member of boygenius so definitely check them out
I’m the beginning of the song ICU she says how she’s laying on the lawn & thinking out long. Then the song continues on. At the end of the song she said “I’ll click through the window again but right now it feels good not to stand” SHES STILL LAUONH ON THE LAWN The whole song past the lawn part & she whole song is her “thinking out loud”
now you gotta do stranger in the alps!! or boygenius’ the record or her ep with them! or her better oblivion community center record with connor oberst :)

Such a stunning album! Loved the reaction, guys! I really enjoy your channel. I'd love to see you react to Noah Kahan's Stick Season: we'll all be here forever, I think you would enjoy it.

i personally thinks it shows how great of a father son relationship they have because they didn’t understand kyoto 😭

the first time with I Know the End is really something
