All of these guys are really, really good. Sad thing is we probably never get to see how really amazing they are cause they have to paint quickly to get videos out.
The downside to making two videos a week haha. Though on the other hand, my painting has in fact improved greatly since starting at the channel and thinking about how to make something look cool in the time we have. If anything showing that practice really pays off :)
Really like the new Aspect Warriors, but it sure is frustrating to see how slowly the Eldar are getting updated. Would be nice to just get the whole range refreshed at once instead of one or two kits per year. By the time we get Warp Spiders, the new Guardians are going to be old again!
Eldar player since 2002, so glad to see the love. I can't remember where I heard it, but one of the major problems with updating the Eldar is the overall diversity of the range. There are just too many variants that they have a harder time going from model to model and retaining those unique designs. Something like Space Marines is MUCH easier because you can pretty much mix and match between models and everything just kind of works. With Eldar you have fairly unique sculpts with every aspect shrine. So it's just a heavier lift for the design team to revise these units, when they can just cut and past bits and bobs of space marines across the entire range and let a chapter paint job do most of the work.
I've mentioned this for years but to bring it into context to what you have brought up. The various aspects all have some near peer's when it comes to design aesthetic and especially armour. What the GW design team could or should have done years ago is created dual kits for example a Fire Dragon and a Dark Reaper are not much different when it comes to the armour plating/body suits. The heads and weapon options do the heavy lifting as could appropriate gubbins. Avenger's & Banshees Scorpions & Spiders Etc etc etc but now that have moved to this wildly keyed and jointed assemblies we will have to live with the slow slow slow drip feed of aspects still. 🤔
@@DanielVisOneCadeThe problem I see with that is that the armour designs of different Aspect shrines don't really match that well. Scorpions and Reapers traditionally have heavier armour than the rest, and reapers also have additional stabiliser elements in their leg armour. Scorpions have the armour stripes the other Aspect warriors lack. Avengers are defensive/line troops and wouldn't work well with Banshee charging poses. Spiders have web designs on their armour and a plate design very different from Scorpions. So I'm much more happy with a deliberate redesign process than lacklustre, overcomplicated dual kits.
Recommend to Jazza to get a couple of ultrasonic cleaners, as it would help stripping minis quickly. Rattle cans are a fickle mistress when it comes to base coating…
It is a while, since I started watching you. You reignited my love for warhammer models and I just started asembling Ghostkeel Battlesuit (best looking tau model ever in my opinion), that I got from my brother for xmass. So thank you for everything and have a very murray christmass.
I'm excited for the Striking Scorpions, as a newer fan of the hobby I'm very excited to see these updated minis as I don't have a history with the old ones then in another 20 years or so I can look back at these ones and think "They were amazing, but this new ones pay great homage to them"
All the models look amazing, Personslly i liked the brighter color scheme for the striking scorpion, feels more Eldar-like to me. Keep up the greatwork, looking forward to your videos in 2024!
The second scorpion is AMAZING to me personally. almost like they are being caught in reflected light from a guardsman patrol they are about to take out.....like seconds away from a guardsman shouting 'CONTACT! Emperors bones its the Eldar! fire fire! '
As someone who used to play a lot of harlequins i gotta admit youre absolutely correct with armies popularity shaping the models and lore... harlequins are still popular but damn does it feel a lil bad they got put back into eldars list the way they did for a while. Its better now but dyamn... anyways love the history lesson and the paint jobs
0:55 The _Vast _*_Majority_* of -GW- _Warhammer Inc.'s IPs & Creations.......are, you guessed it, __*_NOT_*_ Their Own _*_Original Creations._* (save perhaps The SKAVEN, which -GW- Wsrhammer Inc. Came up with all on their own....for once) 3:13 Not *_Just Old_*_ Warhammer;_ E.g. 'SPACE MARINES' = 'Starship Troopers' (Original Novels) "NAVIGATORS" = DUNE (Org. Novel Series) Dwarfs/Elves/Orcs = LOTR (* & many, many other examples exist, 100's actually)
I would've pre-primed and then pre-painted it before gluing it together, as you are required to make sure the pieces do go together before gluing them into place or even painting them. for the Elder, I remember the Red, Black, Blue, and sometimes tan as some where higher rank and such
Super nice job on both scorps but while I love the look of the old school paint job, it was a product of its time. The moodier look suits the stealthy bois better, particularly with their lore. I’m on the fence about the less chunky look though. While they were stealthy they were always short ranged firepower and should be more tanky than say banshees and I think this is lost a bit in the new version. A bit less rough spec ops.
Having just last year put together a squad of sniper wolf scouts, old metal wolf scouts, some “new” plastic wolf scouts using the upgrade heads and a land speeder storm packed full of wolf scouts, I like to think I know a bit about scouts. I totally agree with Dave, the metal ones are far better. The plastic ones just fell victim to older sprue design which meant there was less detail and a little more chonk. No doubt the new ones strike the balance between scale and detail.
I liked how bulky the old scouts looked, I especially really liked their huge biceps, in that way they looked like football players to me. Especially with how their undersuit was depicted on the box art, reminded me of the Indianapolis colts which is the only way I would ever paint anything ultramarines.
Yaaay! I am in TTT Tacticus Guild since day 1, my nick is ABRACADABRA and now "featured" (okay, appear... 😅) in a TTT video. I am the 4th player on the Guild list 🥰 Great game, great guild, great YT channel.
I really like the new Striking Scorpion designs personally. They're probably my favourite they've ever looked. The dreads are a comparatively new (obviously comparatively doing quite the heavy lifting here given they've been there for about 20 years) element of their design anyway so I don't mind it not being as prominent on some of them - yeah that original pre-Scorpion guy had them but the original 90s aspect warriors never did, nor did the second design either (although they looked awful so we dont speak of them), its only the ones before these ones from 2005 who have it. The 2005 redesign that gave them the dreads is the best design for sure, and the one theyve had for the longest; the new models still follow those design sketches but I feel have better proportions and posture than the '05 guys do. The new scouts however still look inferior to the amazing old metal sculpts to me, but are a VAST improvement on what has to be possibly one of the ugliest plastic kits GW have ever released.
I still have one of my original metal striking scorpions. The fine cast put me off when I got back into the hobby, so I've pre ordered these as I would love to start an eldar army again. I would love to see the warp spiders get some love next 😀
11:50 so this is actually more of a confirmation biased problem GW pushes the Smurfs as they think they are their best sellers so of course they sell well so they get pushed more and so on and so forth. If they pushed the none human factions more they would probably sell better (unless there’s a pack their selling it’s normally Smurfs V Orcs on the demo boards), we also have a simplicity problem the smurfs have some of the simplest rules add that to them been harder to kill and easier to kill with and that’s going to draw in the younger minds that just want to win. Oddly the numbers change with independent retailers, as they are pushing the hobby as a whole I’ve found the other army’s tend to get a much higher representation.
The cooler paint style looked more refined to my eyes. Both were really good, the first a little warmer and colourful, the second a little muted but more cohesive.
You'll notice that the 3E Striking Bunnies don't even get a mention in Murray's retrospective. Just as it should be. Jes Goodwin got the design right the first time.
I DO love the Shields of Avalon, that's a SM army I could enjoy painting. Usually I struggle with painting loyalists cause I usually do chaos, and go really chaotic. But they could be colourful enough for me.
The faces on the scouts look so much better. The old ones looked like Frankenstein's monster. also hehehe i'm in the ad read (Tacticus is super fun you should download it)
I think I like poppy vibrant greens myself. It’s similar to how my orc skin always ends up. Haha but tbh I think you can have a squad with both greens and it would look sick. Especially as you have the extra details look the same 👌
You know what you just gave me a perfect idea With that statement Of them looking like they're running around with nerf guns How I'm going to paint up any firearms For when I start my home brew eleventh legion Or do my Grey knights And I will paint them in the Classic n strike Yellow, The elite blue, And the accurate shot /mega Red And everything is going to have an orange tip And all of the plasmo weaponry We'll be painted up like Stock rival weaponry Or I'll do that as the Arctic doomsday Apocalypse Set they had for a while With just black and white On the body of the Guns with the orange On the magazines and barrels. And I know it will clash no matter what I do For the paint job of my home brew Legion But it will still be a cool little thing That separates mine from every other unit out there Unless other people decide to do it. But at the same time it works for the concept of the war Foxes Trickery Deceit Mental manipulation Basically alpha legion stuff But not espianoge And spy stuff Like I'm gonna make you think I have less forces than I really do And then i'm gonna put you into a pincer position And get you right where I want you With an overwhelming force
Video idea for the new year - its ok to strip models if things go badly. Maybe test some quick model stripping methods and materials - get an ultrasonic cleaner, and some common, and even specialist paint stripping products. (I personally like the Green Stuff World Paint remover)
Actually Squats sold really well at the time, the problem was internal as GW design couldn't decide where to take them as a faction into the 3rd Ed. shake up of serioushammer. Gotta say I do prefer the 90s metals for both scouts and scorps but these are definitely an improvement on the last generation of kits.
i ALSMOT pre-ordered this at my LGS, i don;t collect either army but i have a lot of kill team stuff and they did seem like good teams for sure. The Striking Scorpions do look pretty great imo. The Space Marines are cool enough, but Space Marines have never been my favorite faction. My 40K armies I'm working on are Tau, Orks and Dwarves, and the kill teams for them are all pretty good, especially the new Kroot team.
Put up a poll so viewers can vote which one they like better between the striking scorpions. Might help Murray make a decision on which way he wants to go with his army.
The models turned out beautiful and I love both the intricate designs painted onto the scout and the different approaches to the Scorpions' colour schemes. Two notes though: Testosterone does not play a role in male pattern baldness. And that pronunciation of "Landsknecht" basically translates to "land snail". Both terrible and funny. What you said would be spelled "Landschneck" with "Schnecke" being a snail.
God I'm old I remember rouge trader days when the first ever eldar were a box of harlequins and absolutely owned a space marine army that was twice the size😅
i like the new detail but man the bigger head of dreads was so much cooler, like yeah its a bit like predator but its also the models were also very eldar and removed enough in my opinion
9:10 @Dave Not 100% sure what you are trying to pronounce there. Could it be "Landsknechte"? Lands | knecht (singular) => is combined from the two words "Lands" (meaning land's) and "Knecht" (meaning servant; cognate with Eng. knight) The 'k' is not silent, contrary to Engl. 'k' in e.g. knight or knee. Not sure where your 'sh' comes from TBH. And German 'ch' is often pronounced like an 'h' with emphasis similar to Stewie's "cool whip" in that one Familiy Guy episode. But there are, depending on the word, two different ways to pronounce it (like the one before and a more guttural one). I hope that helps.^^
I think it stems from Australian accent pronunciation. It's very hard for us to pronounce a K N sound. Trying to say that out loud. I say "lands Kinect' or 'landschnekt" (the s into K into n just becomes a SCH sound) Weird.
I would love to see an updated Shadow Spectres models, they’re my favorite aspect warriors along with a new Irillyth, they’re phoenix lord, model since you can’t find his model anymore
They are still available through the recast market but to date has any real 'forge world' exclusives made the jump to production plastics? Maybe the odd Hersey Armour or Dreadnaught off the top of my head?
I played Eldar from the end on Rouge Trader to the beginning of 3rd ed. Just getting back into the lore this past year. In the old days Plastic was a bad word, and Metal was what you always wanted. Odd to see the change.
Gotta admit the newer model looks less bulky than the old one. Especially the fewer number of dreads makes it looks less broad and more slim. Both looks very sinister, but the vibrant green on the old one gets my vote.
I think the largest reason Eldar models aren't very common today is that they just don't really have a very recognizable visual identity. It's mostly just ovals that make something 'eldar.' The only other distinct thing they possess is their banana helmets but those are also shared with the Custodes models. Tau are just anime mechs and large camera-like heads, Space Marines are armored trench troops, Imperial Guard are starship trooper/generic military, the Tyranids are insect dinosaurs, and Orks are...Orks, and Necrons are egyptian robot zombies. The Eldar just don't stand out in any meaningful way compared to the lineup of other 40k factions. Despite what every 40k boomer wants, I think the Eldar design needs to be taken back to the drawing board. Just keeping the old elves-but-in-space aesthetic isn't helping them thrive like modern Orks, Necrons, and 'Nids
I agree mostly, they can keep many elements, but evolve it. The corsair kit is the most interesting eldar kit in a long time, as well as the helmetless newer models that feel more elven.
@@TabletopTime Corsairs kit is EXACTLY what I neeeeed! I also think the Drukhari have a pretty distinct look and vibe. I just want the space elves to be super cool and popular again
This KILL TEAM Box of 2x Kits feels *_Rushed_* & The Sculpts I think reflect that (E.g. The Poses on The Scorpions look too *_Rigid & Fake/Over-wrought_* (they don't feel natural) + The *_DETAILS_* in the SCOUTS are sadly lacking.
Dave. Just because those scouts came from a whole where the people evolved to have no neck doesn't mean you can diss on them for that. But seriously, I 100% the old metal scouts are still top tier
Though I like the locks, I don't think they're vital to the look of the aspect. The original Striking Scorpion models didn't have even a hint of locks, and neither did the second iteration. They add a feeling of mass, so in my opinion they're the opposite of what an Space Elf/Eldar/Aeldari should have, though I'll admit they look pretty cool.
I started playing 40K rogue trader til 4th edition. i started with Space marines. 1 reason Box set came with 30 marines 30 Cdn dollars . only eldar i saw at the store was box pack of 3 Scorpions and 3 Reapers they were metal didn't look that great and cost 15 Cdn Dollars. so gameworkshop as i see it they never wanted eldar to do well as space marines. if they wanted to push Eldar they could made out of the same material and the cost the same , same number of units
I don't think the old Scorpions were in as desperate need for updating compared to some of the aspects, but happy to see them nonetheless. I've always hated the scouts though. I do agree that the metal ones were better than the plastics, but it's still a case of least worst. The new ones are actually nice to look at now.
I wonder if Space Marines are best-selling because they are most popular and thus get the most support or if they are most popular and thus best-selling because they are so well-supported. The argument that stuff that sells gets support, fails in a wargaming sense and it also just sounds to me like a lot of people might not be earning their paychecks when it comes to game and product design and development.
You're only scratching the surface on the economics of miniatures. No mention of the rising expense of metal, the failure of Finecast, and the reality that there's a finite number of models and moulds a company can make every year, without taking huge risks on expanding their production capacity. While it's true that marines have taken precedent, GW have been steadily replacing/expanding non-Marine armies. In fact, over the last decade or so, the number of new non-Marine models actually exceeds the number of new marine models. Eldar were just unfortunate that they had really nice sculpts that aged incredibly well... Ironically, the Scouts being replaced by the Salvation box, are older than the Scorpions being replaced alongside them.
That lore is only true for some chapters scouts mind you. By your logic only marines should have updates because they sold more but that isnt true of every other army in 40k who got plenty love. Yes Marines are a gold mine but I doubt if you compare other similar loved armies as the eldar to the eldar you will find they have gotten their stuff updated a lot earlier and more often
well a look in to to get yes be fun to do new ones did think that ilm bake when but if thay say so we will see what doig in neat post and mauy DA red gobow bring youz swag
Ok I’ve been out of the hobby for a while are they still using that OLD!!! Mould for the warp spiders? (I’m willing to guess they are as I don’t think they will ever bother making it better). .....? So they are finally updating the spiders.?..? I need to go buy a hat because I need to eat mine, I really didn’t think they would ever get around to it but I’m glad they have I mean I can’t afford the darn things are all of GW cost so much nowadays but cool.

I agree with Murray. The lack of dreadlocks on the scorpions definitely changes the silhouette a lot.
I never used greenstuff, but i wonder if you can add some more dreadlocks with it, to bring back the old style/shape a little bit?
@@ABR4CAD4BRA My thoughts exactly

Great year everyone. Can’t wait to see what’s coming in 2024
Put up a poll so viewers can vote which one they like better between the striking scorpions. Might help Murray make a decision on which way he wants to go with his army.
The models turned out beautiful and I love both the intricate designs painted onto the scout and the different approaches to the Scorpions' colour schemes.
Two notes though:
Testosterone does not play a role in male pattern baldness.
And that pronunciation of "Landsknecht" basically translates to "land snail". Both terrible and funny. What you said would be spelled "Landschneck" with "Schnecke" being a snail.
Murray absolutely nailed those scorpions they look amazing
Love you guys ❤❤❤
God I'm old I remember rouge trader days when the first ever eldar were a box of harlequins and absolutely owned a space marine army that was twice the size😅
What's most disappointing about the new scorpions is that there are third party sculpts that look so much more sharp and characterful.
Thank you for such a great video.
You are welcome! Glad you enjoyed it
@@SpontaneousSquiggle thank you for responding. I love the way you paint. Sorry the green paint went everywhere
It was annoying but I got over it haha
i like the new detail but man the bigger head of dreads was so much cooler, like yeah its a bit like predator but its also the models were also very eldar and removed enough in my opinion
Y'all definitely need to get a indoor paint booth. You could probably set one up in the warehouse pretty cheap.
9:10 @Dave Not 100% sure what you are trying to pronounce there. Could it be "Landsknechte"?
Lands | knecht (singular) => is combined from the two words "Lands" (meaning land's) and "Knecht" (meaning servant; cognate with Eng. knight)
The 'k' is not silent, contrary to Engl. 'k' in e.g. knight or knee.
I say "lands Kinect' or 'landschnekt" (the s into K into n just becomes a SCH sound)
Weird.
merry Aussie Christmas! hope you don't melt👍
Merry Christmas gang!
Are there enough fully helmets heads for all the Scorpians? Or do you have to use bare heads?
Can't wait to see some more of other factions than space marines even tho I'm super into imperium. Maybe some custodes... 😏😏
I THINK. Think. I like the spookier scorpion. But also it's a more grimdark scheme on a newer and therefore less silly model.
Just curious, how big are the heads compared to space marine helmets? Are they similar or much smaller? Want to avoid the bobble head look
I think the brighter paint scheme is better, but the paint job on the newer model is better done.
Update the Warp Spider 😱🙏 Please, please Game Workshop 🙏
What would the captain of the scout company look like if all the scouts have colors with their parent company as part of their scheme?
more things to spend my money on!
I wonder if Space Marines are best-selling because they are most popular and thus get the most support or if they are most popular and thus best-selling because they are so well-supported.
The argument that stuff that sells gets support, fails in a wargaming sense and it also just sounds to me like a lot of people might not be earning their paychecks when it comes to game and product design and development.
catch 22, they dont make newer eldar, noones buys the 20-30 year old eldar, so it looks like noones buys eldar so they dont make new eldar, repeat.
Corporate has asked you to find the difference between these two pictures 😆
scout is a descendant of sid the sloth, thank you and good night
Was hoping for alpha legion scouts
You guys should make koala themed drop pods
No, they are just static green guardians. Sad for the supposed badass shock troop of the aeldaris.
Dave here - yep, as I said, they just like, meh.
Holy crap you should have really stripped the botched base coat on the scorpions!
Unfortunately we didnt have time
That lore is only true for some chapters scouts mind you. By your logic only marines should have updates because they sold more but that isnt true of every other army in 40k who got plenty love. Yes Marines are a gold mine but I doubt if you compare other similar loved armies as the eldar to the eldar you will find they have gotten their stuff updated a lot earlier and more often
Scooby Doo scouts
GREAT YET ANOTHER NEW WAY TO FORK MY MODELS
🥳❤️👍🏿
well a look in to to get yes be fun to do new ones did think that ilm bake when but if thay say so we will see what doig in neat post and mauy DA red gobow bring youz swag
No confirmation, warp spiders are still the 1996? I think mold
