- Dr. Michael Haley from aloe1.com/shop/ Stockton Aloe 1 teaches aloe vera plant care including removing the babies when the pups are shooting up around the mother, cutting off or pulling leaves one leaf at a time, and cutting the root system for replanting. The follow up video created 11 weeks later is at • Aloe Vera Growing New ...
Hi ,Dr. Aloe ! I did the same things as you do. I cut the whole big ball of roots out of my aloe, and put the plant back to the pot mixed with some new soil. That was 2 weeks ago, now I have made 9 pots total including mother and babies, and 3 extra pots from the chopped roots. Surprise ! They are all growing ! 👏👏👏👏👏
That is so cool @Gsd Wong , I love it! Thank you for sharing.
Excellent video! It helped us to solve the problem of knowing if the root could be cutted off!! My daughter is helping me to write this comment. Thank you again!
I did this cutting roots and now he is thriving vibrantly beautiful
one give me alovara
This was very helpful. I have not thinned my aloe properly and have multi-generations in many clusters throughout my yard. I have a lot of work ahead of me.
Oh my. He cut that whole root ball off then dropped it back in the ground. In all my gardening years, I've never seen anything like that. Wow.
+Rhonda Ja I've done this by accident and I just allow it a tiny bit of water and waited until new roots form. I did it twice actually.

Root system holds lot of reserve energy as long there is energy it regrow.
This is an awesome video very informative and will have a sequel; I am very interested in the new root system. I have to remove quite a bit of pups from my aloe and this video makes me feel confident. Thank you very much for sharing.
Having just attained my first aloe, Ive watched many aloe videos on pup harvest and transplanting and I've noticed one thing in particular that makes the harvesting seem counter intuitive. Aloe has an extremely small root ball for the size of the plant it supports. This makes it very easy to be knocked over or up rooted in some fashion. But this plant you have removed on the video took more effort than any of the other 5 year old aloe's ive seen. It also had the most pups by far. Its obvious that producing more shoots is this plants way of stabilizing its foundation for growth. In this sense, I dont find it reasonable to harvest and destabilize the parent plant for the pups when they are already growing fine. I could understand it if the shoots choked out the parent plant, but with all the uncared for aloe Ive seen around, I dont see parent plants suffering. If there is more info you can share, I would be interested.
+Hvens Fury the leaves get much thicker and the mother plant much bigger when you take the pups away. Also, when you cut the roots off, it seems to grow better new roots and a healthier plant. But, left alone, aloe will take over, cover the ground and just keep spreading.
got it!!

I did a video about my aloe vera on my TH-cam page and I didn't know want it was coming from the ground but now I do...looks like I am going to harvest some aloe vera pups
I got rid of my ulcer by drinking aloe vera. But I make it directly from the plant instead of the bottled aloe vera juice in the drug store, and it seems to have better results.. Thanks for sharing !!
We agree that the plant is the best place to get it from. The next best thing is fresh aloe that has not been processed - only preserved by freezing. That is what we do for those that don't filet their own.
can u please tell me how much raw aloe vera should i eat per day?????????????????

I love Aloe Vera!💙, I did not know you could cut the old roots to grow new roots?? I learn something new everyday
me too! :)
Thank you, Debra. Have you seen the follow up video where we pulled that same plant out of the ground again - showing all the new roots that grew?

wow.. that's really giant variety of aloe..one that I have in my home is smaller..and doesn't have this much leaves..please say where you got this..Or what variety is this or how you take care of them..please say..
Hi Dr. Michael my aloe plant is as big as yours in this video ,is there a way to store the huge stems that you take off , from the bottom of the plant? My plant is starting her babes now right , I'm not taking them away from her till next june , because i did that to her in late april they all died felt really bad , then we had to transplant her into a huge pot ,she went into shock , but she came back alot bigger kept her outside all summer and she looks great ! I would love to save those stems from her some how , please let me know, thank you . Dawn
You can bury it outside or in a pot - as long as it doesn't freeze, they will grow. You can orient is the same was as it was in the dirt and at about the same depth. The babies that grow from scratch this way without the mother in the way grow nice and pretty.
I grow Aloe Vera Barbadensis in the UK, year around, my house is now
filled with it. Paul's Potty Pots on Facebook. Everyone should be
using this on their skin, burnt or not, provided you are not allegic it
is amazing. If there were any better plant to be growing I would be
growing it. Have fun and enjoy this plant for the rest of your life, it's a miracle plant.
Great Videos Michael.
Thank you, Frankie Artsen .
I have lots of extra potting soil can I mix that with river sand for my Aloe Vera potting? If yes what is the combination? Thanks for great video.
That's a fantastic video thank you :) can the cutting off the roots be done on any aloe even one indoors in pots? Thank you.
Didn't know they grow that big. Man, I got a long way to go then. I just purchased a couple from Walmart the other day lol
How are they now
@@henpeckedlizard9873 they got really big! All I did was plant it in a bigger pot. That gave the root more space to expand so they grew to their full potential size. I was getting a lot of little ones growing out from the side and started giving some away to family and friends
@@2eganja1 I got two small ones from a CVS pharmacy In may last year, they're really huge now, I've only gotten one pup from one of them though.
@@henpeckedlizard9873 that's awesome. I never ate them or put it to use in any type of health beneficial ways even though I know they do so much. I just grew them just to have them. Did you put it to use?
@@2eganja1 i used it for one burn and it worked well
Great video and June 27th is my birthday! Win/win!
Facinating thanks really helpful :). whats the constant dinging?
Each ding represents a prize! 26 dings = 26 new pups to be planted... which, by now, 3 years later, are all big plants.
Michael Haley i figured it out after i watched it several times thankyou sorry lol great videos really helpful. do you have a uk base for selling the pups as well?
We get so many requests for UK, ***** , but we haven't figured out a way to meet the International demand yet :(
Michael Haley ahh i see no uk base yet well you never know thanks for letting me know :)
Thank you!
Did the red circles show 26 pups off one plant? Wow. What do you do with them?
Gardening with a broken arm , dress shoes and no gloves ! You got my attention
Yah... that's not the typical... my arm usually isn't broke :)
It s great to see too many baby alovera.. ❤️
Hello,I have an indoor aloe vera plant and the tips are starring to get brown how can I remove or make them not come out anymore ,I water them once a week and keep it in a shaded area
Nice healthy plants!
My aloe plant is an indoor plant and is about 30 years old. Recently, the mother plant, flopped over the side of the pot. I am in Virginia, in January, so I hadn't intended to take out all the pups until Spring. Do you think I can stake the mother back upright or repot even though it's not the ideal time?
Sir what to do with the cut root...Can it be reused and planted in fragments T regular interval for further growth...
I like to plant them as is... and get a litter of new pups from it.
I was hoping that you could recommend another source of this plant since the waiting list is so large. How do farmers get their plant stocks.
Yes... we have a HUGE waiting list. But we are able to move more quickly through it now. The only real issue is waiting to warm weather before shipping all over the U.S. so they don't die in the mail.
Just what i needed.....thank you...👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hello! so I live in a cold climate and my aloe is in a pot. there were about 5-6 pups growing and causing the plant to fall over, finally what happened was that the mother plants stem broke off completely from its roots :( much shorter than where you cut your aloe. I removed some of the lower leaves and repotted it. Since it is an indoor plant what other care should I be providing? Thanks so much
I love in a hot area, 60 degrees sometimes. It is still not hot, but i don't know how often should i water it outdoors
Thanks for your videos! I am trying to grow some in Sydney Australia, and I was wondering how long it takes for them to grow to the large size like in your video? The climate here is similar to California, so hot summers and not too cold winters.
Dr4gonSm0ke Same! I am growing aloe vera, but I want to buy the Stockton aloes from Dr. Michael Haley. Straya
You can't import plants to Australia.
Dr4gonSm0ke It takes about 3 years to get to the size in the video.
Thanks!
I'm in Sydney and that plant is slowly taking over the space lol. Not as large as on the video but I never knew I should remove the pups and cut the roots!
26 and I see more pups at the other plant. Wow. 😊
Wow that was amazing
Beautiful, I got over 100 plants from just 4 of them last week.
How long did you wait for your plants to fully mature?
Elly Alvarado I had those planted for an year and mother plant for those were already there for some. Time before I brought them to my land. I feel ur curiosity is for age when pups will come. I can say about 10 months to an year. But usually u start to see some within in 6 months.
Thank you so much 💞
Disculpa una pregunta la aloe vera puede aguantar 6 horas de sol directo aunque la riego más frecuente
Very nice video about Alovera
Hi Doc, love your vids! I grow aloe barbadensis in northern New Zealand, and I'm wondering what season is the best for transplanting my pups. I know they hate frost, and tho it doesn't snow up here, it does get quite chilly and frosty in winter. Perhaps spring is best?? Any thoughts?
For us here in Florida... the past couple months have been great transplanting and growing season. It starts around April for us and goes through October - the hotter and more humid, the better.
How I wish I could have this much aloe Vera in my house😕❤️❤️
Hello Dr. Aloe! I just bought a beat up looking aloe plant from a major hardware store. The leaves are battered and one has a gaping hole in the middle. Can this plant be restored or should it be put to rest?
They can sure look beat up after being separated from their mothers... but after transplanting, they usually spring back to like in a couple months and grow beautifully. But you do want to make sure you have a good species. Barbadensis Miller is the best with Stockton being the best known variety.
I removed the pup's too I plant a lots around my yard too very easy to grow
hello dr. Michael, your aloe vera farm looks awesome...I have an aloe plant that i'm trying to grow. thanks for your advice. god bless. grace from los angeles :-)

dr.haley i have three aloe plants how can i know whether they are Stockton species or not. plss guide me .
My aloe is planted in a pot. It seems to take ages to grow! How long does it take for my aloe to grow as big as yours in the video? Can I use or eo anything to help it to grow faster?
PK Chong mine is 6 years old and about 1/2 the size of his. I practically neglect it or so it feels as I tend to all of my other plants weekly. My guess is I water it no more than once a month and when I do I fully saturate it.
Hi Dr. Michael I have Aloe pups and don't know if they can be used for medicinal use , is there any way to send you a picture of this plant so that you can give me your opinion, thanks.
Just got 30 wild aloe plants gifted to me... many with thick roots . Some with sick roots and years of old dead leaves. I chopped off the bad and damaged root and trimmed all the dead leave with some of the damaged ones too. I trimmed the root and on a few i cut roots down to 6". and exposure some of the sides of the root stock think they might re-root from there. then i too the leaves and sliced them rubbing them aloe all over the roots. I had not clue if this was right way to help them before replanting or if I just killed them all. What do you think did i kill them or am i doing something right?
Well, either way... gonna find out ! :)
:D I've never heard of aloes being described as 'nice' or 'beautiful'. Everyone planted them in the 70's when they were trendy & is sick of their arms being ripped & them taking over their nice garden!
Thanks for the advice. Roughly how many gallons ?
Hi, what kind of soil do you recommend for replanting in pots for indoors? I live in Germany and have to take my Aloe inside for the winter months.
Oh and after cutting the stem do I have to let it sit to heal a couple of days before replanting?
Something that drains well. If the soil retains too much moisture, the plants tend to rot.
Michael Haley Oh and after cutting the stem do I have to let it sit to heal a couple of days before replanting?
ilonamw no, those go right back into the dirt.
Thank you! :-)
Personally, I have not tried it. But here in Florida and in the Dominican Republic, we have a lot of direct sunlight.
Great technique!!!!
Dr. Michael Haley what type of Aloe Vera plant are those ? I ask because there's like 400 kinds
If plants need flowers to spread there seed how do they grow pups and form clusters
I have 5 mother alowvera plant. There are 4 are very big. And have other 6 baby alowvera plant . Total 11 plant alowvera
Wow... what Aloe Specie is that? It looks good and so healthy. I want to introduce it in my greenhouse here in Canada.
Barbadensis Miller - Stockton variety
My brother once told me that his aloe grows too tall and he cut off halfway and plant it again. I asked him " is it not dying?" He just said no! it never die :D Now I see this reminds me of what my brother did which was long ago and already forgot about it. I'll deal with my aloe soon :D
How did he seal the ends after cutting it?
I really need to know how to care for Houseplant (Aloe) I live in N.E.
Dr.Mike I just finished re potting my Aloe Vera and its summer time here in Philippines. I found out from your video that you cut the roots. will it be ok to cut the roots of my aloe vera when it’s only growing into pots?
If it is "aloe vera" and it grows well where you are, it should work great. Why not try it on one... see how it goes.
Me dá uma muda eu amo essa planta
Hi do you have to remove the pups to get it to continue to grow in ground?
Dear Dr. Michael,
I hope this note finds you well.
I bought Barbadensis Aloe plants but I don't know if they are the Stockton species since the containers didn't say and the sellers staff certainly couldn't determine, so after over a year of searching I have discovered that you sell Barbadensis Miller Stockton plants on your website, so I looked and discovered your sold out and that I would be put on a waiting list that guarantees nothing very soon. I want about 10 plants.
Could you possible point me to a source of seeds so I can get plants started as soon as possible, I know I can buy leaves from my supermarkets but I believe in growing it myself can be the best product I could hope for.
We have about 200 people on a waiting list. We should resume shipping in March or April starting with the warm parts of the country first. But it is the cold season and the pups will die during shipping if we send them now.
Our plants do not produce seeds but only off-shoots. We gently remove them, pack them, and ship them for trans-planting. Feel free to contact us or visit the order page and follow the link to add your name to the list. We will contact you when we get to it in the right season.
Thank you :)
lucas browski can i put my two cents in ? i dont know if u want but what if u started plants from your supermarket while you are waiting on the list that way when u get your good plants from him you can give the supermarket ones to friends or family that what i would do if i was in your situation also did u try ebay or amazon for seeds i have gotten good seed for ghost peppers on ebay before hope i could help
Does this work for indoor aloes too? I have a very huge hung over the side and will need to cut quite a bunch to be straight
How to grow aloe vera and send me the idea how to get more aloe vera leaves
wow i love it i need to grow in my garden house , i live in cambodia ,where do u live sir ?
We did not see new videos, where is the owner of the channel?
I have my Aloe plant in a pot in my house and the leaves are really slopping. Is there anyway i can make them go straighter? Could i like tie the plant or
hmmmm.... I would need a lot more information. What kind of soil? How much sunlight does it get? How much water is it getting? What color are the leaves? Is it a Barbadensis Miller? How big and how old? Indoor usually aren't getting enough sunlight since aloe really likes sunlight.
Michael Haley On the tag it just says medical aloe and they leaves seem like a nice shade of green. It doesnt look like its dying or anything. I got it maybe last year I think and its fairly small its not large its just in a medium size house pot. For the soil its just basic planting soil nothing fancy and I water it when the soil is fairly dry so its not over watered. So would you recommend moving it to a sunnier spot in my house? Minus the leaves sort of slopping over the pot it looks healthy
SimsOnMars I would try more sun. Sunlight is the energy used to fuel moving the nutrients and water from the dirt into the leaves. Also, Aloe vera plants like wide pots. They don't need much depth... but a 12" diameter pot is an excellent choice.
My aloe pant is indoors and is soft and starting to brown on the tips. What might be the cause and cure??? Thank you so much for your help! :)
You should try to give it more sun and there is also the chance you are over watering it. My main recommendation is just to move it to a sunnier area and see how it fares! Hope I helped😊
+Charliz Puello , Does it matter sun in the morning ? or around 3 and later ? thanks .

How long will the pups take to grow into the size of the big ones u got there??
Hi sir can you tell me ..Why my aloveera plant no growth ...I m doing all work but not come any response
Nice video.. its seems like you know a lot about aloe vera plants!! :) I was wondering if you could help me figure out why mine is so unhappy. It started turning an ugly brown color and dying on the edge of some of the leaves.. I water it once every week or week and a half. It is never it the direct sun. I have it in a window sill. It is next to our air conditioning unit, so I dont know if that is impacting it, but I moved it to see if that would help, and so far nothing has changed. Any advice would be a blessing!! Thanks in advance!! :)
They don't like change... they don't like to have things added to the soil... don't like being transplanted, etc. They often go through a brown state... for a month or more, as a response to changes.
have anyone tried growing aloe under growlight? i believe it will have more vitamin-E and such..
Learned a lot thanks buddy waiting for the follow up video
So everytime you want to pick the leave, the whole plant need to pull up?

Hey all, I have an aloe very plant in a pot, and I've noticed some little things springing up out of the soil. How do I know if they are pups or roots? I've never had an aloe before
Lol Were they pups or roots?
what type of solid can i use for my aloe it seems like the store cactus miracle grow always kills them
should you water the aloe more often if you cut the roots off
Not necessarily... I didn't water at all with this demonstration... but it did rain eventually.
Stockton Aloe 1 well i was wondering because i did cut the root off how you did but its turning a light brown now
It usually does... for about 4 to 6 weeks... depending on the season - how much sunlight to fuel new growth, etc. Anytime you transplant or make a major change to aloe... even moving a potted aloe to a new location... they seem to turn brown for a few weeks... like they are in shock. In the case of removing the roots, they almost always come back stronger.
Stockton Aloe 1 play thank you. now i live in North florida and i was wondering if i should water it once a week until it rains or just leave it alone. it hasn't rained for 2 weeks so far
Excellent sharing
Any tips appreciated for destruction (terminal that is) of giant aloe... my unwanted babies are about 3m high and 4>5m across and they are incredibly hardy, vicious, bullet proof and worst of all prolific.

What zone is that. I’d really like to plant mine outside but it can get cold
We are pretty far south... south florida.
My gel had turned reddish in the fridge, took it out last night but it didn't turn clear again :-( (about 12 hours since) Heard somewhere that you had burnt your hands severely, would you share what you did? I burnt my right hand pretty bad too 10 days ago and am using aloe and coconut oil for scaring! Thank you!
I don't recommend leaving it out to turn clear... since it will ferment. But so far, the few times I did that, it did turn clear. The burns on my hands were rope burns from hoisting a sail and not locking it down - trying to hold the rope while the sail filled with wind... trying to figure how to lock it down. They were blistered and looked like I held them in fire. I used "Youth Derm Aloe Cream" - a prior formula, before we used coconut oil in it. I specifically remember showing my wife my hands after 3 days and saying "look... they look better than they did before the burns". I was weird seeing them looking better that before, and in just 3 days.
Michael Haley
Oh I can't get that here in Germany....would just using aloe and coconut oil help too?
ilonamw or even just aloe. When they are emulsified together, the oil is easier to use.
Hi in my case I didn't cut the root my alovera got broken from stem (The white part of the stem in middle) my whole plant is healthy and green right now.. But I am not sure how to make it survive this. Though I have planted it back to the soil as you had suggested still you think it would grow.. And what should I do now.? Should I water it or shouldn't I. I am so scared for it. Please help.
Hi please help.. I had given water to it on the day I had posted the above comment (i.e. 1 week back) and in today morning but when today in evening I took it out of soil to see progress if any roots came it has still none.. And its stem at the end had started getting black and bit spoiled though the plant is still green and looks fine. So I again cut the spoiled part and planted it back...
Ugn... sorry I didn't see this earlier. Don't pull it out... just water it enough... they come back, even often even if it looks dead.

I was always told that cutting the root system would send plants into shock and kill them. I'll be moving an Aloe Vera that is 5 feet wide this weekend. I'll take your advice and not worry so much about damaging the root system as I remove it. I'm not going to cut much off though. Should I use some of dirt or purchase some manure?
