He had to comply or lose his job. Those military officers never smacked him around contrary to what you see in the movie. They were, had been, and still are, his friends. He shared with them the loot that he extorted from the hapless refugees. Not to “bribe” them but because they had always been on the same side of the fence. That’s where he clandestinely disobeyed his Belgian bosses. They had told him NOT to charge the refugees for hiding in the hotel. But he still did and he threw out those who couldn’t pay him off.

It is an honour to be able to hear such a great man speak. Such a compassionate man. Mr Rusesabagina you are an incredible human being. If only we all could have your strength of character and then the world would never have such horrors.
