Gumsoom is a story of love and sacrifice. Ganga is a mute girl and her sister Paro, played by Madhu Kapoor, loves her a lot. Paro is in love with the village blacksmith Shankar played by Arun Govil. Shakti Kapoor as Dharamdas, is the village chief and is a womanizer. On finding opportunity he rapes Ganga. Ganga becomes pregnant and Paro asks Shankar to marry her sister.
