- It was a good time collecting Native fish from a Native guy and the owner of a fish farm. Could be worse. I had no idea how cool some of the native fish were in Florida.

Southern Australia here, so all cold water, my favourite fish would be the Murray Cod, big and powerful, awesome personalities and easy on the eyes as well
Hey Dustin , Blue Spotted Sunfish do very well in planted tanks and even though they are in the Sunfish family they are very mild mannered and when wild caught they are usually timid to the point of being afraid of light. However captive bred fry tolerate light very well. I have one male and 3 females they breed almost every year but they always eat the fry before realize I need to move the adults.
Pumpkinseed sunfish are my favorite native I've caught
Dustin is such a legend!
Love his channel!
+The Fool On The Hill haha- thanks man
@@Dustinsfishtanks new debate a democrat🔵 hybrid paradise fish vs republican🔴 northern {studfish} in a sparr over territory who wins
One of my favorite library books from my elementary school library was a book on keeping North American fish in the aquarium. the stoney bottom setups with all the plants housing shiners and dace mezmorized me. Man , I have to drive down to imperil tropical one day.
In the streams and creeks in Arkansas I used to love catching darters... really liked the rainbow darter the best.
Have pygmy sunfish - Everglades variety. Setting up a 125g for more of my state's fishes. Thanks for showing what treasures we have down here.
I went out collecting today, I caught some blue spotted sunfish, baby sirens, gambusia, A really large red bellied water snake, several turtles, some salamanders, pirate perch, and several green sunfish, I love fish collecting!
+Moontanman Where at?
South eastern North Carolina...
@@Moontanman I'm a democrat voter I have a male pro-democrat paradise fish he will be bred with a female fighter plakat bettafish to make a new generation of democrat🔵 hybrid paradise fish. The debate is a male hybrid paradise fish vs a male republican🔴 northern studfish over territory who wins.
Northern Cali- love the rainbow trout and Brown Trout. We have some crazy fish in Cali too like them big ass Sturgeon that look like dinosaurs! Tank on!
realized weeks too late that i accidentally took a tiny baby green sunfish home when i was collecting gambusia for my pond. growing it out in a tank now. somehow fell in love. i read somewhere that they have polarized vision and can see through the reflection on the surface of the water.
Wow! Amazing looking fishes! Can't wait to see them in the fish tank!
So i got a water softener for house is the salt that is used for it safe for my fish as when i do water changes i got mixer tap i don't know the name of the salt just know its softens water it gives high soduim will that harm my goldfish also i use sechem prime as declor
Super cool Dustin
Hey Dustin if you could get an identification on the fish in your video at 2:58 let me know. I collected on in Florida about 3 years ago and I've been keeping it in my tank. I love it and have been looking to get some more.
presently I am living in southeast asia , Nepal ... and the most beautiful fish wild caught are the giant danios ( locally named as bhitti machha) machha=fish , ......i made few locals catch these fish from the hilly stream ( river is dry at this time of the month) .. and put it in my aquarium, the danios in natural habitat... wow the colors, rainbow in my eyes!!!
Blue spotted sunfish!!! Ive been trying to find what this fish is for a year!! I saw a picture a long time ago when i was entertaining the idea of setting up a tank with local fish. I could not find mention nor picture of this fish since then. Thankyou!! Ill be looking to keep this 100%.
I would really love to see more videos on sun fish/ other cool fish from america and plants there is little information on this online also i saw u had a puffer fish in one of your videos more puffers!!
I wish those little sunfish would become more popular. They seemed pretty. We've got long ear sunfish around me and those get some great colors during breeding time
hey, can I keep a Thai silk Flowerhorn fry alone? its about 7mm
Everglades Pygmy Sunfish and Gulf Coast pygmy sunfish are my favorite. I also Love pupfish found in California and Nevada.
do you use water from the pond or should I still use treated tap water for a native tank? I'm trying to start up a sunfish tank so I'm curious any advice helps thanks bro
Here in Missouri, my favorite native is the Orange Throated Darter. A close second is the Rainbow Darter.
That Blue Spotted Sunfish is an awesome catch! It is probably full grown!
+Justin Lehmann nice
@@Dustinsfishtanks new debate a democrat🔵 hybrid paradise fish vs republican🔴 northern studfish over territory who wins.
@@Dustinsfishtanks your probably too sacred to debate.
I personally love bluegill as they have such varied personalities and amazing colorations
The spotted sunfish is pretty sweet. I thought it was a Paratilapia Polleni at first sight. But very nice lookin fish!
Would the blue spotted sunfish be hardy enough as an outdoor pond fish in PA?
3:09 is a dollar sunfish, 3:30 is a southern studfish I think.
Warmouth are a sunfish species. They max out at about 10". Dustin you need to check out orange spotted sunfish and longear sunfish if you want to see some awesome colors on natives! Awesome collecting man!
male longear sunfish have amazing colors, tried keeping some in a 90 gallon but they were very aggressive and quickly outgrew the tank.
These native species videos are really important, awesome video! Warmouth are sunfish. That killi is a monster! My favorite native would be a toss up between the green sunfish, the bowfin, and chain pickeral. Gars are bad ass too!
no love for the longear sunfish?
Where can you buy/get a blue spotted sunfish
Bullhead can get up to 18 inches but typically stay between 6-15 inches. The sunfish that was not ID appears to be a Dollar Sunfish and get to be about 4.5 to 5 inches. Also the chub minnow appears to be a Lake Chubsucker and get about 12 inches. Not sure on the Killifish species that was found though.Natives are awesome and it's a shame we don't see more of them in the hobby. By the way my favorite is all of them! I really can't pick just one.
+Native Fish Keepers chubsucker is what i call my EX-girlfriend. don't ask. i'm still hurting.
Those blue spotted sunfish, are they fresh water? salt water? brackish? would they make a good addition to a community tank, or would they ear every thing smaller than them?
Are those wooden tanks, or cement tanks ?
So beautiful !
lovin the natives, looking forward to part two
wow those are some beautiful fish
Wow. That's fun man. Wish I could do that.
enjoy your videos really good footage
What do you suggust feeding native fish?
hi tell me about flowerhorn fish care
Banded Sunfish are my favorite. I have a planted tank full of them!
Have you caught oscar in lalm beach area? I have an exotic tank and need oscar
Gulf Coast Pygmy Sun fish are my favorite! they work amazing in nano tanks with Cherry Shrimp. I live in Jacksonville, FL so i know all about these swamp fish you'll be amazed at how many different color combinations some of these fish have
never heard of these, are there any captive breeders or all wild caught?
@@taylorhickman84 I've wild caught then bred them myself in a 10g as a hobbyist but as far and anyone breeding them for profit or wholesale I've never seen them in stores. All the information i had on these little beauts came from wildlife surveys. I think a while back i saw some on a site like aqua-bid or something can't remember this was 6 years ago. But if you ever get the chance the males do a little dance when breeding waving their fins in a unique way i've only seen from this fish.
I was there the other month and I set a little water bottle trap put it in a lake for about 4 minutes and then it was FULL of guppies it was insane I don't know the species but they resemble the fancy guppies around here
I love your stuff man!
+Pixelated Thanks, we are having fun
Another nice video! :)
SWEET FISHING BRO
What was the long bodied fish called?
The red finned/grey bodied fish is a chub? Looks like what we call redhorse in Alabama. A carp like bottom dweller that isn't afraid to go up around surface.
Yo Dustin Whats UPPPP!!!! Love this video man. I did not know Blue spotted Sunfish were so beautiful. They are off the chain. Also, the Bullhead looks like something I'd be interested in as well. Can't wait for part 2. Oh and yea loved the fresh WuTang you were spitting with Joey the other day. lol. My Facebook name was Fousa :D
Nice man!
+WinxGaming Thanks
awesome video😊
Warmouth had a brim body but a bass jaw. It can open its mouth much wider than normal pan fish.
i like your intro..like Vj or radio Dj something like that. nice vids
whats that little black fish called
dustin I have a question about my fish tank.i have a 29 gallon fish tank and I was cleaning because it got dirty.so when I put everything of decoration and water. i put the water conditioner and I waited 45 min. then I put the fishes in bag floating in the tank so they can acclimate. after that I let them go in the tank. like 10 min pass, they all they except one fish. it was a betta fish. so I don't know what happen.
+sleeperstang925 : LOL
Those Warmouth are good eating bro... We called em chugs back in the day cause the we're a short but thick fish
+Ryan Williams i would like to try them....next time
Perch fun to catch hardy as all get out not bad to look at
I've caught warmouth bass as big as 8-9". Warmouth is a panfish
Wow dude! Great bro! Super fish yo! Gitten some! Have you tried English lately?

what fish are native to Nc?
dude...your my hero!
love catching warmouths we have some huge ones
i love the blue gills
bluespotted sunfish reminded me of a paratilapia polleni.
I heard native fish in Florida and I came clicking to the video.
Siiiiiickkk......my fav native fish in my area is the tiger muskie
Tiger muskies are a hybrid fish, which means it cant be native and plus they are sterile and can not breed.
urmamaha oh well smallmouth bass then
my personal favorite nativesa are the orangespotted sunfish, redbreast sunfishes, and longear sunfishes
What is the coolest but cheapest fish too get?
I caught a warmouth fishing for bass on a 7 inch worm.
If I'm not mistaken the war mouth is a cross breed of bass and sun
check out the gudgeon and galaxid species of Australia
I got 6 blue gills! there very fun and cuz their local caught free.
I wished you made a list in the video description coz I didn't hear the entire names of the fishes he said.... :'(
'What I saw
Bluespotted sunfish (the gorgeous little black one)
Dollar sunfish (the other gorgeous sunfish that was a bit bigger)
Warmouth (the biggest sunfish)
Yellow bullhead catfish (native small yellow catfish)
Hoplo catfish (the funny looking catfish)
And I think the killifish was a golden topminnow
I'd like to have ome of those blue spotted sunfish.
I live in SG so my favourite native fish has got to be the pikehead
I like a lot of Florida natives but you never see them for sale, the fish in my state aren't quite so pretty
Cool
the one with the emerald blue specks is a dollar sunfish
I can travel 1hr and catch native qld rainbows. Then kayak a little further and catch saratoga aka Jardini's.
I see no warmouth in that tank. The most prevalent species there is the bluegill.
Impressive!
cato river rambow fish is my favorite native Australian fish
+Jarrod Bugden That's tight
My favorite if the LargeMouth Bass!
i live in nc and i really like bluegill
War mouth is not the most aggressive!!! I kept a six inch warmouth in a fifty gallon with angelfish and never once did I see even a hint of aggression. The most agresive I have seen in Florida (and personally kept) is the dollar sunfish
WaiTinG foR anoTher videO😆😇💃
My favorite among the eight fish is the black fish.
