I just came across these Musikladen clips & it does make me angry that Sweet is not praised for the pioneers of metal they really are. You have Andy & Steve who both had a hell of a vocal range, and unsung drumming prowess of Mick. Brian, as usual, stellar vocalist. If you listen to Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and many of the heavier metal bands you can hear Sweet's influence within their music. It's criminal they were not given the props they should have gotten.

I VERY rarely comment anywhere, but can't keep this to myself. Like others, I remember sweet by what i heard being played on the radio, even on AM band back in the day. As I watch more and more of the videos from this show, I became overwhelmed with feeling upset, actually angry for them and myself that all this was kept from us for so long and yet at the same time happy, actually joyful and grateful, to see them like I have never before. I had no ideal that all this was in them. I know by the mid 70's there were others inventing new sounds, new styles and the such, but it feels kinda like this... "holy sh..t, I had no ideal that these 4 guys invented EVERYTHING in and around rock and roll." had no ideal... A very big thank you to all that made it possible for sweet to finally be able to share this with the world, like all greatness should be. Right up there with the all time greats.
I would listen to the radio all night for Little Willie as an 8 year old girl. I knew there was something about this band even as an 8 year old. My local radio station played just a bunch of crap. Had I heard Desolation Boulevard as a 10 year old, I probably would have ran away from home. Surely at 13!!
@Debbie Scott You are absolutely right. I was a young guy in my late teens, early twenties back in the mid seventies and I absolutely loved watching them on tv and live. These guys were so good.....It's unbelievable. They set the high mark for vocal harmonies. I don't think any group since has been able to top this standard.
Roger Taylor had a very high voice. Not absolutely sure, whether the really high notes here, were by Andy or Steve. They both seemed able to achieve these high vocal levels. Amazing Live band, brilliant musicians and singers, have never got the recognition they deserve as influences on other Rock bands as they were pigeonholed as a Glam Pop Band by the media and ignored by serious music journalists, it's still sad they're undervalued and underrated, they should definitely be in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
THE LIVE SHOWS BY SWEET WERE SO FANTASTIC!!! THEY SOUND LIKE MAGIC: BRIAN CONNOLY AND THE VOCALS AND BASS BY STEVE PRIEST, ALL THAT MIXED WITH THE INSTRUMENTS BY ANDIE AND MICK. GORGEOUS!!!
Great, thank you guys for your music, your passion and your good looks..... Back then I was so much in love with Steve. Now R.I.P. The same goes for Brian and Mick!
+Graeme Collin Yes, I definitely remember reading that fact ( I think it was probably in the Sweet biography 'Blockbuster : The True Story of Sweet'' by Dave Thompson). Also Andy says that 'The Six Teens' was the best song that Chinn/Chapman ever wrote .However, Andy's favourite Sweet song is 'Love is Like Oxygen' .Steve has said that his favourite is 'Fox on the Run'; I don't know what Mick's favourite was.
+TheHumbuckerboy Fox on the Run is also up there as one of my all-time favourites ... although the Desolation Boulevard version is a lot better than the "popped-up" single version. I think it's safe to say that FotR and The 16s are definitely my top two ... not sure that I could split them beyond that, however
These are really the guys who have been singing in anothor class of harmony. I grew up with them, but now I know that there was no band before that goes as far as them to build really a harmony like THE SWEET. They were heroes in my opinion!!! Thank you Brian, Mick, Steve and not at last Andy. I love you for giving me so much joy in my fucking sad childhood and youth!!
This is amazing. Too bad that I never had the chance to see Brian Connolly live.. or the Orginial The Sweet.. :( I was born 1997.. the year Brian died.. :(
I'm just discovering them now, they're fantastic. I wonder why I never never heard them in classic rock playlists or radio stations? They should be played along side Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, and other great 70s bands; definitely underrated.
This is my second comment on this concert: Sweet was the only band that I know had the balls to incorporate pre-recorded tracks in their live performances: BLOODY BRILLIANT!! ( And have it shown on stage as well!!).
Killer song, killer harmonies, killer band! They maybe underrated now because ,like many great 70s bands, they are forgotten by the now generation but don't kid yourself, they were at the top of the heap in the mid 70s(albeit for a very short time in North America).
Agree with you it is the group which invented so much rift, and melody that many others took again. I went to see them twice last year in Hamburg in May and during the Wacken, one stormy evening when everything was stopped. And Sweet's concert resumed after !! A big moment !! They deserve the recognition of the Rock family for their fair contribution to music !!
The Sweet for me, were the missing link from the late sixties to both metal and punk of the late 70s. The 70s glamrock stage gear on TOTP detracts from the excellent musicianship and Brian's highly versatile voice. This song spells out the death of love and flowerpower from the sixties. There riffs that would not be out of place at a heavy metal concert whilst fast energy tracks like Ballroom Blitz are precursors to punk. Truly deserve more recognition than they enjoyed.
you're spot on there. Sweet took simple rock&roll riff's to make hit singles, then they took extravagant clothing into their act and I remember Andy having 'bollocks' stitched on his back on some live act (and that was before the Pistols decided to shock the world by using the word 'bollocks' on their feature album). They just moved on being a more and more better rock band. Bad news for Sweet was they hit the charts as some sort of boysband initialy and from then on, no matter how hard they tried, they never gotten taken seriously and maybe they were just in there for a laugh (and they must have had some serious laughs along the way), but they sure were great musicians (Mick in perticular). I don't know a lot of bands that go from playing soft music into going heavier and heavier but Sweet is one of them, The Cult is one of them, Killing Joke is one of them and I love all of them.
Agree with all you said, except the bit about the glam gear diminishing the musicianship. It was just a bit of camped-up fun that fit those times, and for me it took nothing away from the musicianship. If anything, I thought it added a humorous angle, which in my opinion is something that should never be lost on rock and roll.
Leute, das haut mich einfach um. Ich bin 64.
Ich war 16, als ich sie live gesehen habe 1975 Stuttgart Germany

Awesome 😘 love this band.❣️🇬🇧💞 the best music is always from UK.🇬🇧💞❣️😘💞
Proper LIVE sound with all it's strange noise's.................But bloody REAL SWEET and BLOODY BRILLIANT SWEET SOUND.................Loved it.
They were far better than you used to think. Absolutely top and unvorgotten. Very sad the early death of the members.
Greetings from germany.
GORGEOUS!!!
Brian Connolly ... you were the best .
Yes, that's true.
Nobody will ever sing like Brian did 🎤🎶👍
Such a fantastic band and very underrated ... Such a shame we lost Brian so soon. Still much loved by many.
Brian doing the Roger Daltrey microphone swing was cool!
Love this band!
Great, thank you guys for your music, your passion and your good looks.....
Back then I was so much in love with Steve. Now R.I.P. The same goes for Brian and Mick!
Yes, indeed 👍
These 4 guys were the best band ever 🎶
Sweet-Music never dies...
Unforgotten and always in our hearts 💕
A great live band
A real ROCK band ! Without glitter ----- pure music ---- love it
I am too always
All things considered, Sweet really did love their glitter...
Sweet is one of the top... glitter rock... bands... Their fashion was a huge part of their vision...just sayin'
Sweet was the best GLAM ROCK bands of all time period ! 🦄
Nothing wrong with the glitter. Sweet wore it well.
One of my all-time favourite Sweet tracks! Loved it (still do)!
+Graeme Collin This was also apparently Brian Connolly's favourite Sweet song .
+TheHumbuckerboy Now that's a very cool something I didn't know ...
+TheHumbuckerboy i have a feeling micks would be man with the golden arm dont you think? lol
+TheHumbuckerboy Fox on the Run is also up there as one of my all-time favourites ... although the Desolation Boulevard version is a lot better than the "popped-up" single version. I think it's safe to say that FotR and The 16s are definitely my top two ... not sure that I could split them beyond that, however
Oh mamma! Such a classic anthem song from my sweet childhood memory. Live on Sweet.
Yes, indeed 👍
These 4 guys were the best 😍
Sweet-Music lives on... 🎶
Forever in our hearts 💕
What a fu#@ing outstanding performance absolutely brilliant ,the musicianship the vocals and harmonies are second to none, ACE!!!
Interesting Surname. Are you from Germany?
@@shieldsluck1969 Yes I am...how did you know?

@@shieldsluck1969 Yes, you're right and welcome...
@@joelmehr2094 I'm from Germany too.
¡¡¡ Hermosa canción !!!!.... Que hermoso la canta Brian !!!! Que voz tan potente !... donde perdió la voz ?... me fascina todo el !!!!!
I am so grateful to all these Sweet videos, love the Sweet!!!! Love Brian Connolly, such talent. So sad he had to suffer and leave us. RIP ❤❤❤
Just a great band so underrated
This is amazing. Too bad that I never had the chance to see Brian Connolly live.. or the Orginial The Sweet.. :(
I was born 1997.. the year Brian died.. :(
not the sweet, just (sweet)
They did start out as "The Sweet " dropping "The" later on, mainly because everyone was referring them as Sweet.
@@brucerathbonerathbone1683 they were called "sweetshop" at 1st.
I was born in 2005, 3 years after mick died.
You're a hero, Brian Connolly!
Great song from one of the best bands ever. Thank you for the music. It's still alive to this day.
FANTASTIC
I'm just discovering them now, they're fantastic. I wonder why I never never heard them in classic rock playlists or radio stations? They should be played along side Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, and other great 70s bands; definitely underrated.
We miss you Steve Priest, Desolation Boulevard was the first album that I ever bought. RIP!
This is my second comment on this concert: Sweet was the only band that I know had the balls to incorporate pre-recorded tracks in their live performances: BLOODY BRILLIANT!! ( And have it shown on stage as well!!).
This was shot 2 days before my 17th birthday! I loved them then and love them now! :) :)
The part right after the guitar solo with that cascading walking down the stairs with the drums were just phenomenal
Sweet were a great band. 4 very talented guys. RIP Brian and Mick!
One of the greatest musical performances. EVER!
Killer song, killer harmonies, killer band! They maybe underrated now because ,like many great 70s bands, they are forgotten by the now generation but don't kid yourself, they were at the top of the heap in the mid 70s(albeit for a very short time in North America).
So etwas gibt es heute nicht mehr und wird es auch nicht mehr geben
Amazing, so many different styles and temps changes in one song. You know a song is good when you love it the first time you hear it.
Oh Gott ich war 14 und verliebt ❤😂
Agree with you it is the group which invented so much rift, and melody that many others took again. I went to see them twice last year in Hamburg in May and during the Wacken, one stormy evening when everything was stopped. And Sweet's concert resumed after !! A big moment !! They deserve the recognition of the Rock family for their fair contribution to music !!
Just wow👌 fantastic live x
Picture quality and sound is brilliant for an old clip those Germans had great equipment !!!
True... The only thing was that one mic which was set unfavorably (feedback).
Couldn't agree more. Good ol' Pete Townshend loved them.
you're spot on there.
