RAGA: BHOOP: This is one of the most popular envening "ragas", known for its perennial
charm. Pentatonic ("Odava") in character, it omits "madhyam" and "nishad" from its scale.
"Gandhar" and "dhaivat" are its "vadi" and "samvadi" notes, respectively. It is presented here first
in "vilambit", set to "ektaal" (112 "matra") and then in "drut" in "teentaal" (16 "matras").

This great singer passed away at an age of just 34 years. I feel so sad that India lost its furure Bharat Ratna and the great tradition of classical music became poor at his passing away.

This stanza is adapted from Tulsi Ramayana and describes the occasion of marriage of Shrirama when Shiva's bow was to be lifted by the contending kings and bow to be stringed as a condition for Seeta choosing the king for marrying her. The meaning of the stanza is -- when all the kings (Nripatis) were disappointed (as they could not even lift the bow), Shrirama touched the lotus feet of his Guru (Vishwamitra) and went near the bow (to lift it).
The Paluskar family was a great devotee of Shrirama. There are many Bhajan sung by Pt. D.V.Paluskar about Shrirama, and are available on TH-cam.
