    super interesting to see big daddy goyf beat down harder in the format that is faster on the stack, relative to legacy. more stuff in the yard faster makes him so much better. i wonder if there's room in vintage for his little nephew slag fiend (or with the rise of 8cast in legacy, maybe he's good there?)

    • @jakechapman4633
      @jakechapman4633 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the fact it just dies to graveyard interaction (e.g. Endurance) makes it almost unplayable in both formats. Goyf at least lives through that kind of stuff.

    • @christopherlundgren1700
      @christopherlundgren1700 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember there was some consideration of Slag Fiend back when it was printed. A lot of cards like that pique people's interest and then quickly die out. Getting to be a real boy in Vintage is a pretty high bar.

    In round 3 game one, I think getting volc is actually just straight better than getting island against prison shops. These shops decks are now playing 4x ghost quarter and 4x wasteland. So, us getting basic island just makes the ghost quarters better by getting our only basic, and they are equally likely to have a ghost quarter as a waste.

    As a non-Vintage player, would going after their Crucible in G2 worth it because you take them off of Waste Lock?
    EDIT: I won't remove my comment as because I'm honourable, however, I think your thought process was a lot different than mine. I wasn't thinking of you being able to land, I was thinking that it gets rid of their ability to lock you.

    • @BoshNRoll
      @BoshNRoll  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are version with DRS, usually BUG and sometimes 4c. There are Izzet Ragavan decks too. Those are all unique archetypes though, you don’t get there by switching cards out of this list. I’d check out mtggoldfish vintage metagame page for examples.

    34:00 Why cut Probe and not Preordain? I understand that preordain sees more cards, but under a sphere it's pretty bad while probe remains a passable cantrip. And when sphere isn't there, you're playing a 59 card deck with information about your opp's hand.

      Probe replaces itself with a random card. You don’t get any selection or advantage out of it except seeing the opponent’s hand. If you don’t care about their hand, you could just cut probe and draw the good card you board in without having to cast probe to draw it.
