- A very long time ago, I was in a group called GLAD, and one of our most well-known songs was "Be Ye Glad." It was written by Michael Kelly Blanchard and is still one of my favorite all-time songs. During the COVID-19 self-isolation season, my daughter, McKenzie Fuller, and I recorded a version. Hope you enjoy it.
“Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.” (Habakkuk 3:17-18, ESV)
In these days of confused situations
In these nights of a restless remorse
When the heart and soul of a nation
Lay wounded and cold as a corpse
From the grave of the innocent Adam
Comes a song bringing joy to the sad
Oh, your cry has been heard and the ransom
Has been paid up in full, be ye glad
Oh, be ye glad
Oh, be ye glad
Every debt that you ever had
Has been paid up in full by the grace of the Lord
Be ye glad, be ye glad, be ye glad
Now from your dungeon, a rumor is stirring
Though you have heard it again and again
Ah, but this time the cell keys are turning
And outside there are faces of friends
And though your body lay weary from wasting
And your eyes show the sorrow they've had
Ah, the love that your heart is now tasting
Has opened the gates, be ye glad
So be like lights on the rim of the water
Giving hope in a storm sea of night
Be a refuge amidst the slaughter
Of these fugitives in their flight
For you are timeless and part of a puzzle
You are winsome and young as a lad
And there is no disease or no struggle
That can pull you from God, be ye glad

I sang this song at my church the Sunday after 9/11. I lived in NJ at the time and most of us were somehow connected to a loss at the Trade Center. It was a devastating week and wonderful to be together that Sunday. This song perfectly captured the hope that we still had in Christ despite the grief, fear and anger. Now I am drawn back to this song and its truth in these uncertain times. I loved GLAD, saw you in concert (80's) and still listen to your music. Bless you sir (and daughter).
Haven't heard this song for soooo long! Early in our marriage (it will be 40 years this August) we followed GLAD and so enjoyed your music/concerts. After all these years this song still brings a tear to my eyes! Thank you, Bob for your on-going ministry in music! May our Lord continue to bless you!
Please record and release this version of the song. This is a good time in history for it to make a comeback!
Timeless truths will never cease to ring true... the depths of how these remain true will continue to resonate and echo on throughout each generation: Sorrowful yet always rejoicing, cf 2 Cor 6:10.
I`m from Brazil and this song came to me about 1999. Since then, has been one of my favorites songs of all time. Every time I`m in deep sadness, the Lord sends me this song and I can remember to be grateful and be glad for everything he`s done. God Bless your lives!
Mr. Kauflin, GLAD albums played a large part of my spiritual growth as a youth in high school 30 years ago. THANK you for this music. I remember worshipping to this music often, in the car driving, and at home on my Walkman.
Thanks for your encouraging words, Corbett!
Thanks for releasing the accompaniment track for this many years ago. The look on the congregation’s faces when they realized that there were no instruments other than voices was amazing! Love singing this powerful song! Now, if if I can just find a cassette player to play it😆
BEAUTIFUL SONG SUCH HOPE AND REASSURANCE IN CHRIST
Hello 👋 my name is Robbie Britt (baritone, vocalist) from Arizona. That was a Beautiful rendition of that song. I totally remember you from GLAD and GLAD Acapella, and still listen to your songs from that music era. Thanks a million for sharing. 👏👏
Thank you for this song Mr Kauflin. I still sing this song at worship with my son on the piano. It's truly a blessing.
I love this song....! Thank you....!
The beautiful young lady singing with Bob, has a beautiful voice.....!!
And her love for The Lord shines out of her....!!
Thanks, Rosie! That's my daughter, McKenzie.
So beautiful and one of my all-time favorites! So much truth and healing in this song!
beautiful... i became a believer in Christ around the time this acapella album was released - and this song has been in my heart ever since ❤ arrangement, harmonies - heavenly!
Thank you Jesus, you delivered us with love and power!
We love you two singing this song so much. I would buy a studio version and listen to it over and over again!
Can't get the chorus out of my head...……..and that's a good thing!
This might be my new favorite version of this song. Thank you!
Lovely rendition! Heartfelt joy.
What a blessing. Just beautiful. Thank for doing this song…. Very timely.
Thank you for reviving a song that was and still is a favorite. I used to sing GLAD songs to warm up for band gigs in college.
What a Beautiful song! This means a lot to me. From the dungeon of sinful passions and desires, the Lord Jesus took me out and now, I can see faces of friends who are in Jesus. Soon I will see the Lord who paid that high price to justify and sanctify me. Mah his Holy name be praised today and for evermore. Maranatha!
A song for our time. Praise be the Lord!
Bob - thank you and McKenzie for sharing your gift. My very good friend Eric Veydt sent me this link today. I sat down and played through it the other night and had sent him a GuitarTab link of the song. Long ago and far away - at the Penn State DuBois campus, we had arranged for Glad to play concerts for us. It was the Spring of 79 and the Spring of 80 if my memory is right. Those times, and the gifts you all shared both spiritually and musically, remain strong in our hearts to this day and inspire me still. Shalom, Ray
"Oh, your cry has been heard and the ransom
Has been paid up in full, be ye glad" 😭😭😭
I have loved this song since I first heard it performed by the group Glad and knowing Bob Kauflin as friend for a very long time, it was always a song that was on my heart and I have listened to over and over again. This version with McKenzie is also wonderful and timely.
Oh my! How you blessed me so! “Every debt that you ever had, has been paid up in full by the grace of the Lord be ye glad be ye glad be ye glad!”
This is a gorgeous musical statement, doing complete justice to this meaningful hymn. Thank you so much.
As a fan of Glad, I was so excited to find this rendition and YOU on TH-cam!
This song has been on my mind from the beginning of all this craziness. I kept singing the opening line over and over again. I was (still am) a huge fan of GLAD. This song has always been one of my very favorites! This version is fantastic! Thanks for sharing it, and...be ye glad!
Haven’t heard this song in years! So beautiful!
Just come across this song. What a lovely voice McKenzie has. Well complemented by her dad.
I remember this song well. What a beautiful reminder of God's grace and mercy.
Wonderful song. Remember listening to it as a kid. Lyrics seem to have so much more meaning now.
amazing version of a powerful song....amazing soloist!!
For such a time as this in 2020, it is the Good News in a nutshell. Thank you for this exquisitely beautiful music and lyrics.
Aaaah! I haven’t heard this since the late 80’s when Karla Worley recorded it! Great memory and great song. Timeless truth.
Love this song and so timely. Beautiful
Such a wonderful song and what a delight to hear it from McKenzie accompanied by all these wonderful comments. You continue to be a blessing.
Thanks for posting Bob. Yours and Ed’s music have been a tremendous influence on my life over the years. Be well brother!
Walking around again in neighborhood tonight, As usual, it’s late in the evening and I’m thinking, trying to understand the world, its present troubles, and my (possible) part. The words to the classic song "Be Ye Glad" became my companion for about an hour. When I returned home I was surprised to find Bob Kauflin’s recent cover of the song. Thanks, Bob and McKenzie....! john
Absolutely beautiful ❤
Thank you so much. I first heard this song on a GLAD cd back in the late 80s (I think) and God has used it so many times in my own heart. Thank you Bob and McKenzie for posting this.
Wonderful song - listened to it many a night at work.
This is wonderful! True words and stirring melody. My new favourite song of praise. Hallelujah xx
Learned this 5 part arrangement in the early 1990's and have loved it ever since. Thanks for presenting this!
Somehow, I'd never before heard this beautiful hymn of praise, until our friend Kurt posted it on facebook. Now, I cannot get enough of it. The lyrics are so deep and rich with meaning, like a life story in a nutshell. Thank you for posting, for sharing your talent in composing, singing and blessing all of us hearing it. Hallelujah!
Man, I remember listening to GLAD growing up and loving the acapella stuff. I feel really old saying that. Thanks Bob for still producing great stuff...Love watching stuff with kids involved. Nothing sweeter than watching our kids in relationship enough with their parents to work together on projects. LOVE MY KIDS! Praying our relationship continues to thrive even into their adult years.
Gorgeous. Praise the Lord for the lovely song and his musical gifts to you both!!!
So wonderful. Thank you 🌺🌺🌺
Love this song, and loved your work ever since Glad.
BTW: A new acapella recording would be really good, whether with past personnel or a new group. "How Long, O Lord?" or "Christ Our Glory" with a Kauflin acapella arrangement? "I Will Wait For You"? The world needs this.
And during that very long time ago, we were very blessed to have you as a part of our music group at Living Word Community.. It is so nice to hear this version today, one of my favorite songs.
This time of physical distancing gives us the opportunity to reminisce on "oldie but goody" songs, like "Be Ye Glad", and artists like MKB, Bob and McKenzie Kauflin and Glad. Thank you, Bob and McKenzie for taking the time to record and share this! Very hopeful!
Amen, the price is paid in full, tetelestai!
love the song and your singing! Praise the Lord!
I would love a studio recording of you two singing this!
Your piano playing is awesome! And you both sing with such feeling! Is this your daughter?
GOD bless you richly for sharing this
Thank you
Such beautiful piano playing! And I love the song!
Love this
More appropriate each year. Thank you
Thank you so much for this song! The Collector Series is one of my favourite A Capella gospel albums. Please do "In the first light". That song absolutely epitomizes the Gospel. It takes me to another place every time I hear it. Blessings!
Beautiful
We loved this!
Amen
Hi Sir, thank you for continually making music for the glory of the Lord. I grew up listening to your songs with GLAD. My dad who is a pastor in the Philippines has cassette tapes and sang them while basically doing everything. We are actually talking about this song a few months ago when Covid19 caused a lockdown and that this song was very timely.
Could I ask a favor? Can you make an instrumental version of this so that my wife and I can sing it, with you playing as our accompaniment? We have a some members here in our church in Dubai, UAE that are struck with the virus and be using the song to encourage them while they are on confined alone in hospitals.
Thanks so much sir.
God bless you and your family always.
What key should it be in?
@@bkauflin Wow! thank you so much for your reply sir.
The same key in which this video was played would be fine sir.
I am really happy for your reply sir.
You really made my day.
God bless you always.
Hallelujah! Thank you!
So beautiful!
Beautiful version, Bob! Dad always spoke very highly of you and the shoes he had to fill in his time with GLAD. I listen to your tracks on Captured In Time often and just love the way the piano drives the mix (Light Up Your World, in particular). I've heard rumors that you used to play with such gusto that you'd snap piano hammers, lol, fact or fiction? I'm certainly not one to be gentle on the keys either... lol
Eric, great to hear from you! I think I might have broken a hammer once…but not normally. I respect your dad greatly! Thanks for your encouragement!
@@bkauflin ofcourse! Well I'm glad to hear you weren't on a piano rampage back in the day... guess I'm worried I play too hard now, lol at least I can't snap a hammer in a Nord. Ha!
Bob! This is beautiful.
Thanks, Barry!
That is fantastic !
Thank you for doing this. I am studying Hebrews, and this song is so fitting to continue engraining my heart with the depth of love I have been shown IN CHRIST. Oh, how I cannot wait to be with Him forever!💕
P. S I wondered, is it possible to do another recording? The piano overpowers the voice and makes it hard to truly catch the words without straining.
I don't think we'll do another recording of this song, but you can switch on the CC button and have the lyrics underneath. Sorry about the quality of the recording. We had no idea it would be heard by so many!
@@bkauflin thank you for your response. I am so grateful for both you and your daughter, and the love for Christ you display so beautifully and with pure hearts. Thank you for all you do!
@BobKauflin. There was a song I believe Glad sang-but I can’t find it anywhere. It was a lullaby I think. “The thunder and lightening gave voice to the night, the little lost child cried aloud in her fright”
Does anyone know the name of that song?
Awesome!
Thank you for sharing this song - it's so timely and has long been a favorite of mine. I serve on the music staff of Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, TX and have wanted to see our youth share this with our congregation, but the existing arrangements/ harmonies are too complex for us. Would you consider making sheet music available for this including the piano accompaniment and two voice parts?
Sandi, thanks for your encouragement. I don't know if I'll be able to do this soon, but I might be able to put something together in the next month or so.
I found this, Sandi: www.dropbox.com/s/0t2dh1cdn41tdtk/Be%20Ye%20Glad.pdf?dl=0
@@bkauflin This is very helpful, thanks so much, Bob. We could transpose this as needed. I appreciate you responding.
is there a way of getting the music for this and christ will be my hideaway?? Been looking for it on the site but cannot find it :)
Hello! Thank you for posting this video. Brings me back to the days I listened to Glad on repeat. Any chance you have a chord chart for “And Can It Be” as performed by them in one of their Acapella projects? I will be leading this song for our congregation and can’t find it anywhere.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! I look forward to this.
This is beautiful. What does the line, "From the grave of the innocent Adam" mean?
The innocent Adam is a reference to Jesus. His grave is empty so from that empty grave comes a song bringing joy to the sad.
Bob, is there a written piano score for this lovely song or are you playing totally by ear? This is wonderful!
Thanks, Carolyn. Email me at bob@worshipmatters.com. Thanks!
bob is there a way of getting the piano music for this
Rebecca, email me at bob@worshipmatters.com
Very nice song do you have an email where we can write and ask questions about your book worship piano
IS there sheet music for this anywhere? I'd love to learn and sing it.

Thank you so much for sharing the music! Is there sheet music for the piano accompaniment? It looks like this is the melody with chords.
Got the music. Thanks Bob! What a blessing.
