    Rod, I watched this on 9/11 and just as I finished watching it, there were 2 F16's that flew over my house after doing a flyover, over the Minnesota Twins baseball field. They are members of the Air Guard in Duluth, MN. I was a 25 year member of the Army National Guard and retired in 1988. I like how you include your crew and what they do beside, being in the Guard. They are a special kind of people. Keep up the good work and the good videos. I'll bet you will even get that farming thing figured out too. 😀

    • @ohioflyingfarmer7050

      The Guard is kind've a hidden gem! I don't think a lot of people know about it. There are plenty of opportunities for folks to serve on a part time basis.
      Thanks for watching!

    It is a special feeling taking off across the ocean with a cargo weight that does not allow for a fuel load to complete the ocean crossing, and if that tanker isn't there on time, we'll be swimming in the North Atlantic until we freeze to death. Great shots of our wiggly pylons. 04131 is a cranky girl too.

    • @ohioflyingfarmer7050
      @ohioflyingfarmer7050  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I assume you are c17 aircrew or maintenance? I've always wondered if the pylons always dance around like that, or if that is caused from the wake off of the tanker during refueling?

    • @adrianspeeder
      @adrianspeeder 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ohioflyingfarmer7050 3500 hour FCC. Tanker wake probably adds to it, but they always dance. Watch a power reverse video of ground backing and REALLY see them shake. I'm sure it's as shaky as going to idle reverse in flight as well.

    Is it just me or do the C-17 engines seem to flex a fair bit. But rather your boom operator than me though flying doesn't scare me I don't think I'd like the view down my relative's Gazelle helicopter has enough glass by your feet but not quite that clear a view to the ground like that.
    The only issue I have had in feeling sick is in the back seat with not such a clear view and dropping a 1000ft in a couple of seconds in solid cloud and again over the same airspace in clear weather both times to avoid an oncoming aircraft. Three times we have flown that way over a parked Vulcan and every time on the way there we have had to do the same thing but only once I believe on the return journey.

    • @ohioflyingfarmer7050
      @ohioflyingfarmer7050  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh they are definitely dancing back there quite a bit! That's why I zoomed in on the engines a couple times. I'm not sure if they always do that, or if that is the wake coming off of the tanker causing it. Maybe someone more familiar with C17s will chime in?

  • @billbirdsall5168

    @HM-0410 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It’s amazing watch you guys fill that plane and seeing the engines move around as much as they do. It’s crazy that they just don’t break off or shear the bolts off. It just goes to show how well built they are and the amazing crews they have taking care of them. Thank you for taking us along with you on this flight. Do you guys only fuel fixed wings or do you do rotor aircraft also?

    • @ohioflyingfarmer7050
      @ohioflyingfarmer7050  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No we can not do rotor aircraft. A version of the C-130 is used for those.
      Yeah, the C-17 engines dance around quite a bit.
      I'm not sure if they always do that, or if that is due to the wake coming off of the tanker during refueling.

  • @KNJensen

    2 questions: when you refuel these guys, is that training, because they need to keep current, or is it actually part of their flight schedule?
    Also: how much gas did you pass?

    • @ohioflyingfarmer7050
      @ohioflyingfarmer7050  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions! Yes, all of my videos are on training missions. As aircrew, we have monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual training events to accomplish to maintain proficiency.
      In this particular video, we did not offload any gas.

    • @ohioflyingfarmer7050

      We do ride alongs occasionally for folks, but not very often. Main reason is because it limits some of the training we can do.

    ? When on Approach do you fly by Sight or By Map and Center Level maps?

    • @ohioflyingfarmer7050
      @ohioflyingfarmer7050  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends. If weather is clear, most times it is by sight.
      On overcast days with low ceilings, we have charts called Instrument approach plates that allow us to navigate solely by instruments. In the KC-135, we can fly down to 200' above the ground without ever seeing the ground. If the clouds are lower than 200' we have to find somewhere else to land.
