      I drive a 2014 zoom zoom CX5 and I will most likely looking to trade it up. I live in Canada, it is not the best place to drive full EV, but my company offers an incentive of free charging at the office. If anything I would try to afford something EV but the pricing is completely insane and even with the government incentives most EVs run 60k and up.

      I'm currently driving a 20 year old car 😀... would be tickled silly to own/drive any Tesla; x, y, 3 or s.
      Yes, you should go ahead and do car tech reviews..

    Great overview of your ownership Tom. I agree on most points too (especially the Y being more practical than the 3) and after 3 years I just can’t see me going back to a non-EV. Charging at home is a massive convenience!

  • @ThatMarkGilroy
    @ThatMarkGilroy ปีที่แล้ว +6

    We’ve had our Model 3 for about 18 months now. And I’d agree with everything you’ve said here. The biggest bugbear for me is just how laggy the UI can be with certain apps (and the lack of a 5G signal for the price of in-car connectivity is frustrating).

    Fantastic video! The production level is staggering, so many camera angles, screen recordings and matching all the dialog/adr up must have taken a long time! Love the effort you put in to all your videos :) The amount of Tesla's I see in the UK when driving has definitely increased lately, or I'm just paying attention to them more... Would love a Tesla in the future, if you don't drive much it's a hard sell though with WFH being more prevalent these days. Do you utilise the self parking features? I've heard it's quite slow and a bit iffy at times.On a side note, I reckon there will be places in the future where you can park in a spot and the battery will get swapped out for a charged one so near enough zero down time(will likely be subscription based/tied to brand)

    • @Thetechchap
      @Thetechchap  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! Yeah definitely was a process to make it heh. Never bothered with self parking, too slow and unreliable. Yah I’ve seen examples of battery swapping in Scandinavia - but it’s only for specific cars and quite rare

  • @nubin0807
    @nubin0807 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Had my model 3 for a year and absolutely love it. I'm a huge car and get fan, this ticks both boxes.
    Bigger than you expect for a family, loads of room, infrastructure is brilliant, mileage is excellent
    Yet to have a major issue, thing that annoys me the most is the window wipers are useless

  • @SpaceDusst
    @SpaceDusst ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Interesting to see you mentioned the wipers, it was my biggest complaint on my model 3 that I sold and no one would believe me... even other Tesla fans said they've never had any issues yet my wiper would never, ever EVER adjust properly... I changed to an IX3 from the model 3 and the bmw blows the Tesla out of the water and has actually got more features, (heads up display, instrument cluster, sun roof you can open, surround camera view and a more comfortable ride etc..) but I do miss the convenience of the Tesla chargers and the Tesla being quicker - something that my partner as a passenger doesn't miss.

    I've been following the news on electric cars since the Saturn EV1 days, but never bought one, for 2 main reasons: 1: is the cost, it's just not affordable for many people, and 2: recharging isn't on or near parity with gas/petrol. Now, I am confident that this will change over time, once new battery tech comes into use, and we have ubiquitous fast recharging, but this will take a generation. In the meantime, I am kindof astonished no auto manufacturer has come out with a hybrid, where that hybrid offers realistic 100+ mile electric range (and 200+ mile petrol range), and is plug-in chargeable, and at a fairly low price. Lots of people's issues with electric cars, especially in the US and Canada are dealing with long trips. Give us the best of both worlds, and people will buy them.

    The main reason why I didn’t buy a second CCS BEV and bought a Model 3 instead.

  • @Paul2377
    @Paul2377 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I want to go electric and did consider switching when I changed my car last year, but didn't for two reasons. The first was the cost; I pay monthly and even the cheapest quote was almost three times what I was paying for my petrol car of a roughly equivalent size. The second was the lack of charging stations. It would be OK for small journeys, but any long journey - especially to more rural or remote areas - would require so much planning at the moment and the constant fear that I might not be able to make it to a charging station in time. So I decided to look into it in four years' time when I'll be looking to change cars again. If the price is right and the charging infrastructure is better, I'll make the leap.

Hopefully soon.

    @no-oneman.4140 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You seem to know something I cannot get a definitive answer to and I have tried. I am waiting to order a Model Y here in the UK , the only reason I haven't is because I'm waiting for the 'softer' suspension. Spoke to Tesla at Dartford a few weeks ago they said it's not available yet and they have no idea when it will be for the UK. Are you sure about what you're saying. I do not want to order a Model Y and then find I can't live with the hard suspension. I'm looking at a RWD model certainly not the performance one. I fear you are misleading UK viewers but would love you to prove me wrong .

    • @Thetechchap
      @Thetechchap  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hard question. It may be fine is it's a good price. Risk is that it's been fast-charged a lot which can degrade range from what you might expect.

    Hi Tom. Interesting. Why would you want cooled seats on a MY in the UK? At the moment, our other car is a 2017 KIA Sportage SUV and that does have cooled seats but we live in Western Australia where we can get into the low 40s in the summer. I cannot imagine this being a requirement in northern Europe at all. Agree about the lack of proximity warning and maybe about the 360 camera that we have on our EV, a BYD Atto 3. I'm still looking forward to my MY RWD arriving next month.

    Driving me mad right now is the newly added auto defogging. I prefer to run the A/C in auto but the over-enthusiastic auto defogging feels like it’s drying my eyes out. It’s a shame there’s no way (other than taking the whole A/C to manual) to turn it off. Minor gripe I guess.
    The Supercharger network is also the deal breaker for me.

    I've recently driven the latest standard M3, MY and a 2021 M3 LR. The M3s feel slightly more compact and more fun to drive than the MY, and the new softer riding M3 has a better ride than the 2021 and I think better than the new softer riding 2023 MY. Of course the 2021 LR has better acceleration and range (and parking sensors!) but it's a used car and a similar price to the new standard range. The MY has better practicality and good for towing and camping (we do). In Tesla terms, the MY looks like good value right now but I prefer the looks and driving of the M3. I can't decide.

    I will never understand how a CEO making comments you disagree with somehow is a negative for owning a product. it’s the most asinine thing
    If I followed that level of stupidity, I wouldn’t be using 50% of the stuff I own

    No Apple Car Play or Android Auto? And no parking sensors?? In 2023, when almost every other new car on the planet has this stuff. WHAT???
    Tom, that's not just pants; that's Y-FRONTS. BAGGY Y-fronts.

    Could never justify a tesla while Elon is still in charge. Glad you point that out.

    Cons with the model Y , for the rest of us who drive normal size cars having to park next to this beast. I saw one that parallel parked that filled the whole space , wiping out 3 parking spaces. Obscene.

    I hope you keep them in a garage. It would be a shame to have 100k worth of items outside, not sheltering them

    Good review about the tech side of the car......shame about the undercurrent of anti Elon politics

    Great video and I do appreciate the appeal especially with the infrastructure however those looks are just awful and so unimaginative! They have been left behind in all other areas by their rivals in my opinion.

    i assume you are trading as a LTD company so maybe that should be one of the main reasons you buy an EV.....and why is Elon a dick ?

      Certainly in my case, I would never have bought it otherwise.
