  • "It is the best sleight of hand that we´ve ever seen. You fooled our as*** bad!" Penn&Teller
This is my first performance in Penn and Teller Fool Us show in Vegas for CW TV Network. It was an epic moment that became viral all over the world.
This piece of magic (some people called it Magic Trick or insane trick) is called "Tribute to Ascanio". Ascanio "El Maestro" was one of the most influential magicians in the world and his books are still the best in magic theory.

Penn & Teller Fool Us Javi Benitez
    #PennandTellerFoolUs season 4
The REQUIEM TO ASCANIO act is a tribute to his mentor. Benitez created this act in 1997, the year Arturo de Ascanio passed away.

Shin Lim's "Dream Act" is amazing and beautiful, both technically and artistically. But it is possible to watch it and work out what he is doing. The folds, the sleights, the misdirections, the pen disappearance. You can see them if you watch it enough. This act? This is...flawless. Not a single show, no unnecessary movements that are concealing a drop or a switch. No gimmicks. I never thought anyone would stun me as much as Shin Lim. Javi Benitez did it.

Guy Fawkes; Agree with You about Shin Lim who is amazing and orchestrates his performance with music! Javi Benitez also orchestrated this performance with music and his performance, technique surpasses yet. Seems Javi's performance was after Shin Lim's on P&T. If so, then P&T's comment about Javi as "... the best slight of hand we have ever seen ... ", includes Shin whom they were also impressed and fooled. And let's not forget the blind dealer who simply amazed P&T with all of his moves, ,methods, and technique, whom they had no deliberation about giving him a "Fooled" immediately!

Shin Lim is the best AGT candidate and most suitable ambassador to represent magicians on that program. His concerto skills made him at the level competing with musicians and dancers that were hard to top. No other magicians could have pulled off that win that season except Shin Lim. While he is excellent in his own right, there are many MANY pros that are like him so don’t miss out. Shin Lim is one of the greats.

I had a brief personal story relating to him and a family member (why I was doubly stoked to meet him), & he was genuinely touched by it. I was so blown away by his GENUINE warmth as a human; he’d actually pulled me in for a hug! We took a pic for my mother, and I’m never starstruck. That's funny because I saw Javi at a supermarket in Spain while on holiday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

    Absolutely mind blown. Simply incredible
Progress of my Reaction throughout the performance:
...Production of Jokers... Crap that was pretty crazy.
*Pretends to know whats going on. Thought using two cards with (white face-joker back) and (white-face-blue back) pairing setup. Sleight of hands: variants of tenkai palms, showing the same white side twice to appear as front and back, flipping both cards upside down, bending cards, shaky hands and other effects to make multiple cards appear as one after production??
...Production of First Queen... Oh shit. .
*Preparing mind to be fully blown. This guy means business. Perhaps using a complex arrangement of two or three card pairing earlier in production of jokers??? But that'd make sleights insanely harder due to sandwich effect with three cards??? And he never flashed??!?!?!?
    ...Production of Coloured Backs...
*Where the bloomin heck did those BLOODY COLOURED BACKS COME FRMO???!? DID I MISS A DECK SWITCH? REWINDs VIDEO. CAN"T FIND A SWITCH?????!?!?!?!?!??
    ...Production of Aces.....
*DOES NOT COMPUTE. ERROR.. ERROR. All speculation gone. Wouldn't be suprised if one of the cards turned into a unicorn and he flew off in the night. He is clearly a wizard

Sorry!, there's difference between card trick and magic, this man used real magic probably. Kostya 99% using trick and hard practice with fast moves. Shin Lim used many tricks that all explained, there's some of them not explained to me like the smoke 💨 trick. So u can say Javier is a magician or the most intelligent and brilliant man who came from the future.

When Teller looks amazed by sleight of hand magic, you know it's good. This remains one of my favorite episodes. Even if you knew the moves to do what he did, it then takes years if not decades to gain the level of skill to do them this smoothly and quickly one after another. This is as close to actual magic as it's possible to get I think. There's no gimmicks or props, just absolutely precise movements and timing.

So something that I noticed after the millions of time watching this is at very specific moments, I see that the cards look thicker on the sides... then I realized every card he uses is somehow placed perfectly on the other and when you realize that you can follow all the moves. I think the cards have some kind of surface that holds them on top of each other and when he picks them up he separates them into his other hand and then it’s all perfectly timed moves for the switches that seemingly come out of nowhere and the old card is placed on the back of the one that was previously hidden. Just an incredible performance.

I saw this when it was new and I've seen hundreds of video's with magicians performing their very best but years later this one is still one of the very best act's that I have ever seen. It's just so beautiful watch.

This is hands down the best performance I’ve seen on penn and teller. The tale he told through his cards, gain and loss and fate. And seriously the slight of hand is well I have no idea and won’t even try to explain

    • @TheFettuck
      @TheFettuck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You can clearly see in the close-ups that he is used special cards which you can wipe to reveal different pictures.

@TheFettuck nope, there are actually multiple cards and he changes their order. They’re not gimmicked

This is beautiful. I've been studying magic for 20 years - not as a performer but just because I enjoy knowing how illusions work - and this is one of few pieces that I don't even want to know anything about.
When the illusion is more pleasing than the secret, you got me.
    This isn't only magic, it's art. 👏

Absolutely beautiful routine to beautiful music. My jaw dropped and stayed that way through most of the performance. Just incredible piece of work, a credit to the craft and your culture. Bravo!
Edit: Having watched again I really felt the story being told. A crafty thief finds a wallet, but the blank notes inside do not grant him any riches no matter how he wishes, prays or otherwise prostrates himself. Just my interpretations but I thought it felt pretty fitting!
