      There is a reason those who clap off beat are in the audience :)

    • @Ghostman719
      @Ghostman719 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well 1) people in the crowd are taken by their emotions and prone to rushing. 2) there is a delay between what they hear and what the people on stage would hear from them, causing aliasing, which is also a problem marching bands need to overcome. 3) as a whole, are not dedicated to metronome practice.

    One of the best sickdrummermagazines documentations I've seen in a while. Nice angles and some stage views for variety. His drumming is so tight and well constructed. Love how the ride gradually starts to spin @4:32. This guy has come a long way since Exoplanet.

    someone please explain to me what's happening rhythmically from 3:37- 3:57? what joey is playing is very straight forward but in contrast with the rest of the music is very confusing, snare is in weird placements. can anyone help?

    • @Mattchudon
      @Mattchudon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Inatia Band Official It's actually straight 4/4, with a three-against-four polyrhythm in the bass drum (which is following what the guitars are doing). It sounds a little lopsided because the guitars start that riff on the "and" of beat 1, and the kick supports that. That's why the snare sounds so off-kilter with the rest of the music, even though it's playing on the third beat of every measure.

  • @arcadiadzl
    @arcadiadzl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Clapping is not off-beat; it's polyrhythmic clapping !

    4:17 anyone know what's going on there? looks like a variation of a shuffle.

    • @Mattchudon
      @Mattchudon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      djent is totally a genre It sounds to me like it's straight 4/4, but with the accents on beats that make it sound really funky. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like the groupings on the hi-hat between the kick and the snare follow a 3-2-3 pattern.

    • @Mattchudon
      @Mattchudon 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      My bad, I recounted the beat again, it's actually a really fast 5/16 pattern. I wish I could notate it out here.

    • @combatwombatt
      @combatwombatt 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      godmetal101 haha hey man, no problem. Sorry for my late response. Atleast you provided me with the time signature which can help me notate it myself. thanks dood

    • @Mattchudon
      @Mattchudon 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem, man! I've been trying to make a cover of this song myself, but there is still a lot for me to woodshed out. And I've recounted that part *again* after hammering it out over and over. It's actually alternating between 4/4 and 5/4. It's really hard to tell with this band unless you listen VERY carefully.

    • @KowProdMedia
      @KowProdMedia 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dylan Robertson Yeah, it's really his hands that make that rhythm, he's playing a shuffle, but he uses ghost notes on the snare in another drum video of this song, and I think it sounds better using the hats. I'll be uploading my take on this song pretty soon, that was the part that got me.

    One of the reason they play to a click is that their music has a tendency to take off tempo wise. If you watch old videos of them playing, the tempos were often times a tad faster than the recording, which kind of ruins the effect of some of their music because it is recorded to such specific tempos. So when they play to a click that the audience can't hear, and they are playing a part that has no drums to keep everyone together, it's just naturally going to fall apart. Not really the audiences fault, nor is the bands, just the situation.
