    For some reason, this video seems to be getting some minor attention, about 5 years after I uploaded it. But thank you to my recent viewers and commenters.

    I was in the papers once. Friends and I went to some pubs, and at one point walked through tricorn. Someone had smashed a shop window, and as we walked by, the thief ran out with clothing. Don't know why, I just charged into him, bundling us both to the concrete. Anyway, he was arrested, and I had 5 mins of local fame.. Ty for the video.

    That courtyard area was great for skateboarding in the 90's, had a beautiful surface, just had to check for broken glass first. Great footage, fun to remember LJs and Mr Clive they always seemed to do a good trade.

      I have a vague memory of Domino’s Records. Didn’t the signage include a lady’s head/face?

    18 years ago The Tricorn Centre started to get demolished. It’s crazy where the time has disappeared.

    I liked the Tricorn, as a kid I saw it being built, as a builder I know it could have been saved, I can’t think of a building , that was that interesting to look at anywhere .

      I’ve always felt that it could’ve done better had it been properly maintained in the first place (and they’d thought its construction through a bit more). It’s a shame as I’d would’ve love to have made TH-cam videos in there - and done some cosplay photo shoots.

    Reminds me a lot of the old concrete Drake Circus shopping centre in Plymouth. It's ironic they actually managed to build an even uglier monstrosity in its place.

    Quite spooky looking. A virtual ghost town.
    Remember it well.

    • @Fireglo

      It's a building that certainly wouldn't look out of place in Pripyat.

    Central Portsmouth needs more parks, not car parks. The greedy council makes money out of every inch of parking space. They should go to Europe and see how its done in civilised places like Holland.

    I was a nineties kid in portsmouth & I miss this place, didn't use the shops but laser quest was great. Also imo it kinda looks like a level of a game, like chemical plant zone off of sonic, or twisted metal, proper 90s vibes, it had character. Anyways nice footage hehe

    • @TimeBunny
      @TimeBunny  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, I miss it too, in a funny sort of way. Now that I do cosplay and TH-cam it would’ve been a great location for videos and photo shoots.

    I remember seeing a piece of graffiti every time I passed the Tricorn building on the bus. It was of Sonic the Hedgehog but he wasn't wearing any shoes, and the artist decided to make his feet look like kidney beans. Does anyone else remember this? I cannot find it anywhere in photos and videos.

    • @TimeBunny

      I think I vaguely remember the Sonic the hedgehog. It’s one of those very hazy memories but, now you mention it, it rings a bell.

    I lived in Portsmouth from 1969 to 1984. Portsmouth was a shithole and the Tricorn was the turd on the top of the cake. It was a miserable building. So glad the thing has gone along with those monstrosities on top of the hill (Portsdown Park).

    • @TimeBunny
      @TimeBunny  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can agree with the part about Portsmouth being an absolute shithole. I’m glad I finally have the opportunity to leave later this year (moving to London). Literally the only thing I like about it is being by the sea.

    Must of been so weird going around there

    • @TimeBunny
      @TimeBunny  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m actually really sad it’s gone now. As it would have been a great place for cosplay photo shoots and urban exploration TH-cam videos.

      @@TimeBunny I agree reminds me alot of East Berlin. Would be a great location for the underground music scene.

    Voted the ugliest building in the UK on Radio 4.. Growing up in the area I remember how within months of it being leaked and was dark and dingy. Hated by everyone I ever met and accurately called by Prince Charles "a mildewed lump of elephant droppings" If the people of Portsmouth and the surrounding areas had been able to this hideous badly built building would have been demolished withing a year of being built.

  • @danielspeight9589
    @danielspeight9589 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Loved this building so much!
    A special art school and a building that served as source material for young creative minds. Since we have seen the reappropriation of redundant dereliction across other areas of cultural significance in the UK it is completely unforgivable to see this icon razed to the ground and left as some CBD car park. Portsmouth City Council- Shame on you! You would have been the Jewel of the South rather than the bollock of Britain (Isle of Wight being the lower hanging partner of the duo) !

    • @TimeBunny
      @TimeBunny  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I’m sad now that the Tricorn is gone, now that I’m a TH-cam content creator. So many potential videos gone ☹️

      I liked this building and took 5 photos from which I made 5 watercolour paintings and I am trying to find out if anyone would like these. If you or if you knew of any one who might be interested could you let me know.

    I can smell this video...there were plans to replace it, then the 2008 Financial crisis happened which put an end to it, then internet shopping soared which basically ended the business case..

    • @TimeBunny
      @TimeBunny  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I guessed it was likely a combination of circumstances that scuppered the plans. It’s a shame as we really need to the regeneration around here.

    • @PompeyMatt17

      @@TimeBunny indeed...the Tricorn was literally rotting from the inside out. The architect was on an episode of Grand Designs when they were discussing brutalist design. He mentioned the Tricorn and admitted "yeah we got that one wrong, but materials and technology have moved on and I still feel there's a place for this style"..

    Officially the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen building wise
