Paramedic here - and Physician Assistant wanna be! 😊 This would have furthered me along more had I heard it earlier in my career. This is a gem. Thank you for sharing!

So glad this video came back up on my recommendations. I remember I first watched it as a Pre-PA or at some point in PA school. Now, I'm starting as a new grad in my first job: emergency medicine! At a large academic medical center. This strategy will help a lot when it comes to working with mentors and attendings. As the PA now, I certainly gotta step up and voice what my plan should be. I know I won't always be right, but that will definitely lead me to further autonomy. Thank you John!

Junior in high school and soon to be EMT and future ER nurse/NP. This is such an inspiring video and great advice.

Just got assigned to my first rotation in emergency medicine! Thanks for the tips I'm definitely going to try to incorporate the tell ask and balance my level of initiative!

What are your thoughts on ER nurse practitioners vs ER Doctors?
I graduate from my BSN nursing program in April and have been considering acute care gerontology nurse practitioner school with a year emergency medicine certification.
I keep on hearing that they have similar or the same treatments and responsibilities.

Ive been a nurse for 3 years in the ED. The tell-ask is a great concept. This would save so much unnecessary back and forth. Nurses often learn more about their patients than the docs purely due to time with the patient. Without the tell-ask, your assessment almost goes to waste as far as the doc is concerned. They are not reading that. Im guilty of putting sticky notes at their work station that say things like "10/10 pain, pain meds please!" Or "BP not responding to fluids, vasopressors?" after it going unnoticed for wayyyy too long by the provider. Otherwise, you're just a task nurse. What kind of nurse do you wanna be? Plain and simple. This is from from early days as an unconfident travel nurse, dont judge me too harshly... this was only when i couldnt locate the provider and needed to go tend to something more immediate.
