The work ethic evaporated in the States in the 1990's. By the time I retired in 2014 many of my co-workers would spend their time at work on their cell phones.
I still experienced a solid work ethic with colleagues until around 2006ish. Then I started to see entitlement and laziness become the new normal.
As a retired educator, I saw it (work ethic) gradually fade away; aided and abetted by parents and administration weakening rules and standards.
It got worse earlier than that bro back in the late 90s
Before I went out on disability in 2010, I was watching the kids 'texting' while they were ''supposed'' to be watching their machines! No wonder why my job was getting harder every day,, Maintenance. I didn't even know what a 'text' was!!

All that said, I don't like the image of US Marines standing about like toy soldiers. They can keep the uniforms but be properly armed. They will have to be given an extra allowance to but new uniforms that will fit over body armor. That's how a US President should be protected. Use the USSS as needed for everything below the POTUS but the POTUS deserves the best and that's NO the USSS..
Firefighters that go into work for 24 hours and are off of 48. They do have an opportunity to take a nap now and then but when the bell rings, they’re on the job.
In Canada it’s usually 4 days on, 4 days off for Firefighters. So, yeah, naps are definitely in order.

I left 17 years in a medical field because of lack of accountability, laziness, and unskilled management. I'm several years, and tens of thousands of investment into a mechanical career, and it's the same. There's a huge age gap in qualified/experienced people and the next crop, there's no-one around attempting to make themselves competitive, and there are ZERO incentives to give extra. Literally no return. I'm getting paid less than what it takes to come to work prepared, but at least things don't come in dying.
I'm extremely glad you took it past DEI and put a finger on Accountability. People have been lacking integrity all around me, for my entire life. It's a real hell being one of the last honest people, but I do it so I don't have to live with being a scumbag.

It's everywhere. I'm a retired Police Officer and I went to an event that had an off-duty cop in uniform for "security". I walked up to her (she had her back to everyone as she played Galaga on her phone or something else that engrossed her so completely that she didn't see me) and stopped short of being able to reach out and grab for her weapon on full display and unprotected. At a DPS station, another "security guard" off-duty cop was asleep in a chair and snoring. I went to the DPS office manager to let her know. I hung out for a few, and she did NOTHING. One disregarded the safety measures that should be paramount when wearing a weapon in public and the other had taken at least one-too-many extra jobs (for whatever reasons) ANOTHER officer on the street (when I was still on the job) had a severely sore hand that he got on his second job and didn't want to report it for fear of policy retribution, so he was working injured. Scary stuff!
Incompetence is the end result of DEI and BRIDGE.

One that does care about their job and does put in the extra effort doing the extra stuff even though it's not part of their assigned job duties... They are the ones that are overlooked... Praises are given to those that do the minimal for what they have not done and yet they always accept the Praises versus saying who actually did it...

Even here in Daytona Beach Florida. The #1 complaint of businesses especially restaurants is not finding good help or new hires don't want to do their job or are late constantly. At my job a new hire was no call no show and expected to be paid because he was scheduled 😮
