  • Hi everyone! I'm bringing yet another one of my personal mixes, in today's video i'll be presenting you my take on the track "Smooth Criminal".
    The song was originally recorded during the early "Bad" album sessions, But in this mix i'll be reconstructing the song as if it were made during the early "Thriller" album sessions!
    This mix is intended to sound "dirty" and "unfinished" almost acting as an supposed "Demo" of the track! Please leave any suggestions for future mixes!

    The vocals were pitched due to copyright issues, and artistic expression to separate it from the original

    Originally written and recorded as far back as 1980 at his home studio without much equipment. under the name “Evening in Chicago”, it was nothing more than an instrumental that he wrote and produced himself in under 2 days. Jackson was influenced by 1930s and 1940s Chicago of that era. He later picked up the track and reworked it with Steve Porcaro in 1981 during the Starlight and Thriller sessions, the rough demo was given the name “Annie” later and recorded his vocals over the track. There was an accidental pitch shift when working on the vocals for the song but they ultimately decided to keep it in the original demo as it gave it its own uniqueness. The track was considered for Thriller but ultimately left off as Jackson had bigger plans for the song. The song would be used as influence for a new demo called “Al Capone”, while it was stronger something still wasn’t right, so Jackson combined the production techniques and sounds used on the new demo “Al Capone” with the lyrics and sound of the smooth criminal demo from 1981 to make the final version of the song known as “Smooth Criminal”(final version being recorded from November 1986 to April 1987) The first demo recorded in 1982 would be leaked on December 22 by Quality Mixes.
    Fanmade story btw, this one was a bit longer 😅 took awhile to type but it was worth it.

    You should just make a playlist of songs from the Bad Album mixed like they were for Thriller like this one and call it "Bad For Thriller" i know someone said it before me but that's a good idea these mixes are incredible

    This Should've Been Called Thriller Album Mix,
    P.S For those who says the pitch doesn't sound right at all. if you lower the pitch to its original state, it's gonna sound normal, Michael's Voice is very high in pitch already.

    • @Znop
      @Znop 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most of the Thriller drums was done on something called a LinnDrum, which was a digital drum machine. It's pretty easy to find a pack of LinnDrum sounds online these days

    • @dominicferrini
      @dominicferrini 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Znop actually it was called the Linn LM-1, the Linn Drum didn’t come out until right before the release of Thriller

    • @Znop
      @Znop 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dominicferrini Oh damn my bad, I didn't realise they had more than one Linn machine. What's the difference between the LM-1 and the LinnDrum?

    • @dominicferrini
      @dominicferrini 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Znop The LM-1 was released in 1980 used on pretty much every popular 80's song, it was used on most of Thriller and was also used by Prince,
      The LinnDrum was released in late 1982 and wasn't as popular as the LM-1, The LinnDrum had slightly different samples, you can download them on garageband,
      overall the LM-1 had better sounding samples, and it was used on Thriller
