soyeon actually wrote My Bag to brag about the members! red '5' diamonds in her bag meaning the girls (and soojin). she wrote it to show off their strengths and it is VERY clearly conveyed! my bag is totally a song that gets stuck in your head :)
Ah I did catch the 5 diamonds but I thought it was the 5 on screen including Soyeon but I love that meant the other 5 including Soojin! She's the best.
I mean, we don’t know and the girls are not permitted to tell us. So technically it is just speculation. It could be an error. But there are way too many of these errors or coincidences or similarities etc in their work since they lost Soojin that this is not even plausible deniability any more.

@@AmadanMath and an additionnal argument for the theory stating that the fifth diamond is soojin is gidle mama performance where soyeon has a rap couplet for my bag : she starts saying that it's time to brag about the fifth diamond (that is "red", "creepy" and "beautyful" then she goes back introducing the rest of the members (yeppi yeppi, boss baby, born princess and giant dog) and finally she talks about herself, "lion queen", "yougn and rich" > it is just an interpretation, but it is quite possible that the first part of this rap is indeed about soojin, making her the fifth diamond in soyeon's bag !

OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM! The tour version is absolutely insane too, when I went to the concert Soyeon had 8.2k people singing while holding her mic to us and it was such a good moment, she's so powerful in this song and she did such a great job highlighting her members' strengths and personalities! They all killed it, I remember hearing it when it dropped and my jaw was on the floor haha

Soyeon is undoubtedly a genius, as he has produced most of the songs, including all the title tracks and MV concepts,etc. Minnie and Yuqi have also produced the remaining one-third of the songs for the albums

Really enjoyable to watch your reaction to this. I was never in doubt that it would be right up your alley. I think the production is far beyond most 'performance' videos too. It's great to watch them all do what they do so well.
Soyeon definitely writes with her crew in mind and then produces/directs to bring everyone to full potential.
If you have time, while you are riding this wave of hip-hip-hoppedness*, (G)i-dle released Uh-oh in 2019 written and produced by Soyeon. It is hip-hop inspired but the rap load is carried by Soyeon herself and everyone else sings and dances (not that that is nothing ;-). There is an iconic Soyeon rap scene that is burned into my brain. In interviews surrounding this release the entire group expressed a desire to do more in hip-hop and a while later we have My Bag. This would also be a perfect time to watch Bad B***ch Number which was a track on Soyeon's solo EP Windy and featured Lee Young Ji and Bibi. I know you have it on a list somewhere but it fits well with this them though it's less dancing and more just rap (that will have you running it back again and again). Far less pertinent (or in your face) but I know it's probably not on your list of Soyeon's adventures, a couple years back she was featured on a release by Hyo called Dessert. A lad named Loopy does the rap heavy lifting but Soyeon is a nice youthful breath of fresh air on the track. And i trusted you had Bad B***ch Number on the list, just wanted to give it a bump. I’ve been seeing it a lot lately but that’s also because the algorithm is a self fulfilling echo chamber sometimes. That song links out to a few other things once you’ve watched it: BIBI contributed a verse to a version of Eve, Psyche and the Bluebeard’s Wife for Le Sserafim and there is a fan version that combines her verse with Jurin (XG)’s contribution. There’s like five versions of that song though, each good, so how to react will be a challenge.
Also, Lee Young Ji collborated on a track called Smoke which was part of a 10 minute live intro for MMA’s this year and then, on another show, Soyeon stepped out to give her own version of a rap for a live performance of Smoke. They are all having so much fun and somehow still making $$

I caught this tour in Chicago in '22 - Took me from fan to stan in the first minute. These ladies are fire - Yuqi's lower register is one of the 7 wonders of the world (fight me!) and she kills her verse in this song. Shuhua absolutely destroyed me live - her persona on stage caught me completely off guard.
(Miyeon's sass is real - cannot wait for their comeback - those promo shots are killing me...) This was their first release after Soojin left (1 yr earlier). sad face....
And don't get it twisted - I am a true ot6: just because I didn't mention Minnie and Soyeon, doesn't mean that I don't love and respect what they bring to this song.

My Bag reaction for my lunch break? Better than desert! Part of me is glad this is the official video and that there's no MV, makes us focus way more on them. I agree, Yuqi can kick us in the face any day if it's followed by such an amazing performance! What else can I say, patiently waiting for the comeback in just over a week, audio snippet came out like an hour ago, can't wait to see and hear what Soyeon has been working on. I love that you love this. I'm basically out of kpop culture at this point but I still show up for Idle. Just as a point, keep in mind that Soyen has not and will never not hint a Soojin's existence. Soyeon said in her verse in New Vision: "Idle is my masterpiece" , and here she references 5 diamonds in HER bag, of which obviously only 4 are present. Soojin will always live in Soyeon's lyrics and imagery.

I don't really know what the right answer is 😅 no matter what I do someone won't like it... I try to let the first play go with *some* interruptions, I will always do some pausing and talking but a lot of people do want me to talk less I think lol. and then if people want more of my thoughts they can watch the second half and everyone else can exit (hopefully after liking/subscribing lol). 🤷🏻♂️

Thanks for the reactions! My Bag is iconic! What more can be said about Soyeon. Do check out her My Bag rap verse during the 2022 MAMA awards. Also in general do checkout her and I-DLE performances at year end award shows (MAMA, MMA, GDA, etc) stages from all years since their debut in 2018. Soyeon especially remixes their songs for each stage and also we end up get atleast 1-2 new rap verses from Soyeon during these performances. Thanks again for spreading the I-DLE love! Their music needs to reach more people and they deserve to be more well known. They are such a unique and good anamoly in Kpop!

When Yuqi was a trainee, she specialized in hip-hop dancing and rap. But given Korean is a second language and she was being placed in a group with Soyeon, those skills sort of got placed aside. She's the type of person to learn things quickly though, so her position became center as she can kinda do one of everything. So while we don't get to see Yuqi rap all that much, it's something that she's had in her back pocket since the beginning.
Boring language tidbit, but since you mentioned Hwaa... It's a nonsense word, but vaguely combines the sounds of the Chinese words huā (花, flower) and huo3 (火, fire). So it artificially means something like fire-flower.
Not boring at all - I love learning stuff like this, especially when it comes to Soyeon being clever and/or creative! Thank you!
