    I wanna add the war aspect in the title “nation of war” is the IDEAL of the nation, like “nation of justice.” Just cuz war is the only “tangile” ideal doesn’t necessarily mean the environment has to reflect that. where is justice reflected in fontaine’s environment where is knowledge reflected in sumeru’s?

    • @asabiexplains
      @asabiexplains  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

      Good point, Genshin´s world tends to reflect the cultures they are representing rather than the ideals of said nation, while there are some symbolisms in the world, it´s not always in the forefront of the world´s design.

      Exactly. Sumeru definitely changed me expectations because when I think of Knowledge I don’t expect a giant treehouse but I love that they did it that way

    • @WordsOfTheTeacher
      @WordsOfTheTeacher 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I mean the entire story of Fontaine was all about justice, and the huge theaters to hold trials, everything being about convictions and absolutions of guilt for the entirety of the populace of the region... there are major structures entirely for 'justice' and the story is fundamentally about it. If Sumeru isn't about knowledge it's cause they fumbled lol but I guess there were some secrets in that story

    • @addtewcart
      @addtewcart 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      @@WordsOfTheTeacherAgain, justice was the main concept looked at in the STORY. sure there may be some places that represent justice like the opera epiclese or the guillotine behind the opera epiclese but on a wider scope theres not much in the environment that would tell me this is the nation of justice.

      I think people tend to forget that the ideal of a nation also doesn't have to be the exact definition of the word itself. Even in Inazuma, despite the nation's ideal being eternity, Makoto's idea of eternity was in transience, which is almost the complete opposite of something that is "eternal". Heck, even lightning itself is the complete opposite of eternity, it's something that flashes in less than a second lmao. Ei's character arc was partially her understanding that her sister's idea of eternity was not literal. In a similar sense, war can mean and represent a lot of things. War can represent a lot of things -- something more literally would be conflict, but war can also represent a stage of transition. All in all the point is the nation doesn't have to be war-torn, and even disregarding lore the nation itself feels pretty geologically and culturally accurate.

  • @rockmsp_art

    it's okay to be vibrant and aesthetic even if it is a war of nations cuz Inuzuma where the whole region is monochromic of violet, which gives me a feeling of dullness and I didn't explore that region full of dullness but Natlan teaser is just 1 min but it feels lively and exciting.

    It was always an assumption that Natlan would be a barren, wartorn wasteland with nothing but lava and volcanoes everywhere, and the remnants of war and destruction strung about.
    Maybe there will be some desolate regions in the nation that just wasn't shown here.
    As for me, I don't have any gripes about anything shown off, aside from piqued curiosities as to why the lava looks like orange/lime sherbet.

    You are absolutly right! Your video is litteraly just my thoughts ahah thank you.
    Honestly, I will be waiting for official lineup before making decision while its ok if you dont play this game for representation i find absolutly disrespectful for a region inspired by PoC to be full of whites characters, even more so if their god is white. Do you understand what kind of messages this is giving a way? Racism is already rampant in this community along with more disgusting behavior like Pedophilia so imagine reasuring the racists and white supremacists in their idea through this? I just cant.
    Like I said ealier, i will be waiting for july 15 if their past scheduling is to be believed (Lazzo, Final feast) this is when they will post Natlan teaser with the Lineup of characters. Only then will I decide if I keep playing this game or quit. I just cannot continue supporting this game that does not support me. Anyway I liked the video very much, thank you !!

      Im not sure if ur referring to Sumeru with the whole white god thing but from my personal experience most different arabic countries have white/slightly tanned skin with straight black hair and with a not insignificant number of brown and black skin tones. The issue isnt what skin tones the characters of sumeru have but rather the lack of Indian/african characters (in total) to justify a darker skin tone. However yeah they could have made an arabian based character also tanned.
      As for Natlan I’d say dont worry, unlike with Sumeru there is 0% excuse to not make the majority of the cast dark skin without some exceptions (columbina as well as people from other nations like how Thoma from mondstat lives in inazuma). Plus the lore will be based on mesoamerican and some african mythologies so its still worth it, and lastly its a good exposure for the world to see alot of these cultures that arent represented in media.
      In media we have:
      1) America (90% of the planet is america btw).
      2) Egypt.
      3) India/Pakistan/Afghanistan (they’re all portrayed the same).
      4) Africa (Sun land, everyone is sweaty and its very bright for no reason).
      5) European countries (Bleak, has American MC).
      Glad to see all the accurate representation in media (jk).
      Anyways people tend to take stuff online like attacks so just know im trying to tell you to have some faith since nobody not even chinese citizens are dumb enough to think mesoamerica and africa are light skinned.

    07:17 while part of the Genshin community does have some unhinged takes from time to time, I think this time most of the people complaining that Natlan is too colorful aren't Genshin players. If you look at the events that were happening in the gacha space at the time of this trailer's release, you probably can guess who they are and why the main complaint being "it's too colorful" when Genshin is KNOWN for it's colorful palette. And it's not a conspiracy theory or something, I've seen those people doompost Genshin for years while not playing it and I'm not too surprised they went full force this time, amplifying a small minority's nitpicky opinion
    Other than that, thanks for the very informative video!! Definitely gets me hyped for Natlan's region and story
    Edit: woah I didn't think so many people would understand what I'm talking about lol. And just to make things clear, I don't hate that game, in fact I'm playing it daily since launch and I love both games, it's just that I've been following it's development for a year now and man, so many of its' fans looove shitting on Genshin unprompted. It's like a bunch of people who like a souls-like game shitting on Souls games, totally ridiculous

    As someone from Guatemala I'm very happy with Hoyo's depiction of Natlan at this point.
    When I saw the preview I thought "yes that look like Petén" that is one of the departments with most Mayan arquological sites xD In adittion to diverse environments, just Guatemala have 7 biomes and 360 microclimates, 16 being the predominants. One country, imagine all LATAM and Africa!!
    Also idk why foreigners have this tendency to thin volcanoes = Red when in reality they look green/blue, even in the top (don't know how to say crater lol) is more black, and just when theres heavy activity you see lava, normal volcanic activity is just fumaroles (smoke) and earthquakes, also lahares that are a mix of water, mud and a lot of volcanic materials, are gray lol
    And Lahares are more comon in an eruption than lava xD
    In any case, this countries are extremely colourful, if someone interested you should look for clothes here in Guatemala, the huipiles are beautiful and every colour and every simbol has a meaning
    When if comes to religion, in some groups of mayan believes (remember Maya is an umbrella term, there are 21 etnic groups that are considered Maya in Guatemala) every colour represents an energy or aspect of nature, and ever day has a different energy so the flowers and candles are different day to day, theres no ceremony equal to the other
    And I can continue speaking about colour, nature, animals and more 😂
    Sorry if I got to carry away but I hate when people put our region in one box and get angry when we don't fit in that stereotype 😅
    Anyways great video!

Love how in the trailer they showed different aspects of the nation just like how different Latino countries have volcanos, huge hills, mountains, rivers, waterfalls, etc.

    11:44 I totally agree! Reverse 1999 is the most diverse game I’ve ever played. There are characters from so many different countries with so many different accents and designs. There’s even a canonically nonbinary character which is awesome! There are also dark skinned characters, a speaking apple, a playable dog, a literal UFO that is stealing a cow, a half-girl half-deer person (also the same with a bird) and so many other cool things that you never see in other games! My favourite thing is that some characters have a very noticeable accent from their home country or just directly speak in their own language :D

If you seen any Sigewinne videos on youtube lately, you'll notice how many such videos are basically rude subjective complaining videos about Sigewinne disguised as "kit breakdown" videos. It's disgusting and ngl it brings me back to how many people were complaining about Baizhu and Kokomi but the moment X.0 or X.1 came around suddenly these characters are goated and everyone suddenly loves them because people see a healer and immediatelly screech about how seemingly useless healer characters are.

      Yesss. I had this thought process for fontaine and I was surprised. But I also kind of had this for sumeru. I think it may have been the inazuma effect for me.
      When they painted inazuma practically in dire trouble, I got a look that I expected with that description.
      Sumeru with Sages controlling the desires of their nation.
      Fontaine with their judicial system and how there was a “storm brewing” and them the occasional mention of how hard of a life it is for inventors and how easy it is to slip into poverty there.
      And Natlan from the very jump being described as the nation of War. These heavily skewed my expectations. But I guess that’s the *point*

    • @Fuphu
      @Fuphu 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@The1andonlysharpshooterI would still like for the first things we experience in Natlan to be some degree of fighting, to show how ingrained combat is into the nation. War/Combat should dictate most things such as who gets to do the chores today, who owns what land, and other such things from small to large it would show how something we consider taboo and dangerous is part if everyday life and how it doesnt get in the way of their friendships and whatnot, it would also paint the idea that they are a nation not to be messed with.
      Unlike mondstat and Fontaine for example who barely have any capable humans nevermind capable fighters aside from those hired to do their work (and even then mondstat doesnt have much). Basically good luck trying to invade or attack Natlan cause its more than just an army or special forces you’d have to overcome, first its the people and the saurians and they’re no slouches.

    @milosantos28 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    I think it looks amazing and I know the entirety of it is gonna be a total eye candy. And I cannot wait to interact with the saurians! ❤
    However, what I noticed with Genshin over the years is that their design is starting to lean into high contrast and almost cartoonish design language that when compared to how Mondstandt and Liyue looked at 1.0 just looks like a totally different game. Part of why Mondstandt feels so homey is that it feels like a real place and it feels so familiar. Similarly, when I arrived to Liyue, I know I’ve arrived to Teyvat’s version of China because it looks just like how China looks like in the real world. Inazuma is also similar in this sense.
    I think where things changed is when Sumeru came around. With the first 3 nations, the animals looked like animals in the real world. But in Sumeru, while clearly based on real life animals, looked very fantastical. The sumpter beasts, shroom boars, etc. look familiar but not close to reality unlike all animals before ver. 3.0.
    Not only the creatures but also the architecture of cities in Sumeru started to really deviate from the real world aesthetic. Sumeru city and Port Ormos has the exact same design, and while clearly inspired by real world architecture, deviates greatly by having green leaf shaped roofs. This is also where I started to feel like the cities are just one entity or block of structure instead of being a group of multiple buildings because the cobblestone roads looks like they were made of the same material as the walls in the city as opposed to the more varied materials used in structures in Mondstandt, Liyue and Inazuma. I didn’t mind this too much because I just thought I didn’t know enough about the culture they based Sumeru on, but then this trend stayed with Fontaine.
    Like Sumeru, Fontaine also has a great number of new colorful creatures which looked very fantastical in comparison to their Mondstadt and Liyue counterparts and the structures within the city also feel like a one whole big structure instead of multiple buildings and the ground and walls also feel like made of the exact same material. I guess this makes sense for Fontaine being that it’s a walled city being guarded from possible overflowing water, but again, this does not look like it’s real world inspiration. My expectations with Fontaine was that it might look like the real world Venice or Belobog from HSR but instead what we got is something completely different and kind of monotonous. The buildings in Fontaine also tend to have very big proportions that it sometimes feels people don’t fit naturally in them as they felt with Mondstandt.
    Now I’m not opposed to these design elements. In fact I love them! So what if they’re fantastical? It’s a fantasy game after all. However, it can be pretty jarring when you really take a closer look at how the design differs so greatly between Fontaine and Mondstandt. One is very close to reality, while the other is on the opposite side of the coin. And with the release of Natlan, the gap is gonna be even wider.
    I will not deny how cute the Saurians are. They look absolutely amazing. The issue is that, as previously mentioned, they look like they’re from a different game now when compared to earlier creatures. These saurians have much bigger (even more cartoonish) eyes, big head, big limbs, etc. that in contrast to the likes of Dvalin that had more realistic proportions, just looks kinda silly (still cute of course 😍).
    So for me, the design is absolutely top notch. Hoyoverse is definitely cooking here, BUT it’s undeniably how earlier locations just look outdated now in comparison. There’s definitely a noticeable imbalance and I hope they will fix it by either adjusting some design elements or colors temperature in ealier areas or maybe expanding Mondstandt with a fresh location so it doesn’t look too far behind in terms of aesthetic with the likes of Natlan and Fontaine.
    The evolution in design only shows how much Hoyoverse has improved over the years but I hope they fix the things that I just mentioned. (And I hope I’m not the only one who noticed it 😅). I welcome anyone who disagrees with me to reply to my comment. Discussions are good!

    • @dzintars8034
      @dzintars8034 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think Hoyo, with Fontaine and Sumeru and Inazuma have been absolutely killing it. Mondstadt and Liyue look great, but in a fantasy game, a world overtaken by the elements, they look a bit out of place in current day I agree, but liyue's expansions, chasm and chenyu vale have been absolutely stunning, I'm hoping they can give the same treatment to Mondstadt aside from it's gorgeous dragonspine one day...
      I remember they mentioned that they used ghibli movies for their inspiration behind Inazuma and famous paintings for the vegetation and stuff in fontaine instead of direct realistic ones since they didn't want it to resemble mondstadt too much since they both are similar in nature and I think they achieved their goal. Sumeru I'm not sure what their inspiration was but for a nation of dendro having it's city be built on a tree is as always genius and it's drastically different biomes like the mushroom forest, the one with the giant trees that never stops raining and the variations of the desert are memorable. I love how drastically different the people adapt in their individual places of living and how they incorporate the element into the cities and overall look of the nation.
      I have no doubt I will have my mind blown by Natlan.

      i fully agree with you about "like a real place" but that is also why i disagree with you on "looking forward to the Saurians - they look *too different* - certainly not like any real 'lizard' i ever saw, - they are TOO CARTOON-y - more like Pokemon and NOWHERE near anything in real world mythology which is what has impressed me about Genshin lore thus far.
      the colour palette is also "wrong" - i'm not expecting drab war-torn colours but the "culture" of what people wear and what the terrain looks like is NOT the same.
      the Sumeru forest and desert had good colour schemes, but the Natlan preview makes it look SO artificial, those green tints on the sides of the lava river really disappointed me, but the worst is overly bright ("vibrant") colours of the Saurians - it totally smells of DIsney merchandising gimmickery to me.
      don't anybody quote "fantasy genre" to me - the Aranara were a basic shape, only existed in a specific area and were not visible to everyone, the Melusines were created by Elynas and also have a humanoid form which is as far as i can accept for "cuteness" - but to have SIX different types of Saurians - all looking like Pokemon creatures and NOTHING in the real world really went too far for me - it has broken the immersion for me, and as has been said by many people - makes it look like a DIFFERENT game - and that is a NEGATIVE for me.

I'm not sure what their problem is... From white sand to bright red sand, thousands of flowers and trees and so many colorful insects and animals... I feel like the trailer represents that very well.
    Also, I hope people won't make too big of a deal on natlan being the least advanced nation in teyvat, because while we do have many normal "western" things here like anywhere else, if you travel into the rainforest there are big villages where people are living in wooden huts, bathe and do dishes in the river etc.(they do have phones tho and electricity certain hours of the day). i havent actually encountered any complaints about Natlan looking too colorful and not "warlike" but i have heard an adjacent opinion with people stating they were under the impression Natlan would be all volcanoes and ashlands because "nation of pyro". i was really happy seeing Natlan be more vibrant, its a similar feeling i had when Fontaine didnt resemble the stereotypical image the fanbase had thought up, though with Natlan it hits a lot more since that was the region that made me install the game when i heard some whispers about it holding some Mexican inspirations. ive assumed for a while that Natlan's war probably wouldnt be a literal war, probably something based on the war of flowers though i figured itd be less violent or a more Hoyoverse-like take on it

    So glad someone finally said something about this. the Genshin community tends to have very strong opinions about nations when they're first teased. Which is completely unfair considering ITS A TEASER they're picking apart. This unwarranted complaining and stereotyping happened especially with Sumeru, and now Natlan. Anyway, this was a great video! :)

    So this would be more interesting

  • @Oaglor

    Even in the context of fire and war, I can see why there would be green spaces in Natlan. Volcanoes, wildfires, and the decomposing bodies of those slain in battle can also contribute to the growth of new life.
    Volcanic ash is often filled with such elements like magnesium and potassium which makes it a good fertilizer. That is why places like Pompeii were built around volcanoes.
    Wildfires are beneficial to many ecosystems by burning down undergrowth and allowing nutrients to re-enter the soil. Many plants, such as lodgepole pines, even release their seeds after the protective resin around said seeds is burned off.
    Humans, just like any other organism, end up decomposing after death which redistributes nutrients as well after a lifetime of building up said vitamins and minerals. Though many tactics and weapons used in war, such as salting the earth, scorched earth methods, and chemical warfare, can also damage the surrounding environment as well.

    A lot of people said it already but all I could see was that players were expecting stereotypes. That, and players had no idea about the cultures and legitimate landscapes related to mesoamerican and west african people/mythology. I'm barely connected to those two wide cultures of mine, and even from some google searches i did a few years back i still remember just how much color and vibrancy i found in those cultures. And of course they aren't monoliths, i dont tend to frame west africa and all of mesoamerica as being the same thing with no notable differences, but it genuinely looks like the use of color is a constant. To the point i was worried about designing incan inspired clothing for some characters of mine because of how much color there was, and i already suck at drawing.
    Im nowhere near an expert on the several cultures of those regions but i am someone who ethnically has a connection to both, and I'm glad enough our region isn't a gigantic stereotype with a nasty yellow filter and "indians" that talk oddly and "ooh scary foreign ritual dance". Though to be fair, considering the culture of Sumeru, i shouldn't have been all that worried, sumeru is still my favorite nation.
    As always the "worst" parts of the brown nations (sumeru, natlan) are the characters being unrealistically pale for time periods before and after colonization, especially since most people in both areas still are significantly tan. No matter what it's blatantly historically and culturally inaccurate, which is wild for a game that can be incredibly respectful/open to foreign backgrounds. Doesn't mean the characters aren't cute, i love how i can see native and west african traces in their clothing mixed ofc with a fantasyish style, but the skin thing is still disappointing. Either way I'm excited, and I hope the fans will stop expecting every inch of the story to be handed to them-all it takes is being observant in the open world, and doing world quests. Not sure how so many people can confidently complain about regions not looking like their ideals, and then not play aspects of the game that builds on the ideals but go off ig

    About info on Natlan, there is also an Unfinished Reverie artifact set that tells the story of a group of Natlan rebels overthrowing the evil overlord. It seems to be from an earlier time than Talking Stick, as one of the things the rebels fought for, was for Saurians to be free. By the time of the Talking Stick, it became the norm for Natlan people to have a Saurian partner, but in the Unfinished Reverie, none of the characters seem to have one.

    • @Vesperad0
      @Vesperad0 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Even if it was a game meant for children, it's still an insult to act as if children's media cannot be deep or have layers of thought put behind it. And honestly, children deserve more than poop and fart jokes, especially when their intelligence is so often underestimated. I would know, we all would know-we we're all children once.
      And either way your dismissive tone doesn't reflect the game whatsoever. I'm not a lore theorist myself but I love the unspoken parts of Genshin's story with analogies and metaphors and parallel events, there's no way you can dive into the game and think otherwise. Genshin isn't some lighthearted anime game, isn't just jiggle physics (even though a part of the fanbase is fixated on that), and extends beyond its meta. It's environmental storytelling, hidden meanings, and so much more that a casual player or "waifu collector" wouldn't see, because they wouldn't try. At least give the story a chance, you don't have to read every in-game book but watching any of the lore videos available will definitely give you a greater appreciation for the game's story-thats what it did for me, and I genuinely have learned a lot from mythology and history and philosophy through Genshin's references.

      @@lavenderempress The world of Teyvat does have ethnic divides? Look no further than Sumeru where there was friction between the "desert dwellers" and "forest dwellers" as a result of the convoluted and misinterpreted history between King Deshret and Greater Lord Rukkhadevata.
      Regardless of ethnic divides, or a lack thereof, it doesn't make sense for them to have no coloured characters. Hoyoverse could quite literally make it so that the colour of someone's skin has no bearing in how they're treated across Teyvat.
      idk i just find it weird that Hoyoverse would go so far as to learn about and incorporate different cultures, (Everything from music and dance, clothing and attire to even language and dishes). Yet would still feel the need to misrepresent how the majority of that population who created said culture, looks like.

      not exactly while some colors showen are similar to other regions, one unique thing from the trailer is the volcanos and their colors are something we haven't seen in genshin. Natlan will be a big region (we don't know if it will be as big as sumeru or maybe even bigger) so what we saw isn't everything in the region.

    • @Fuphu

      Lets go over each nation’s unique colors:
      Mondstat: Has least unique colors but blue and turquoise are their main colors you can expect when going to many areas such as andrius as well as dvalin’s lair, you can also see those colours on dragon spine.
      Liyue: Mainly amber and red colors as if perpetually in autumn, you can also expect alot of variety such as with chenyu vale however that place wasn’t originally part of Liyue so it makes sense.
      Inazuma: You’re lying to me if you’ve seen colors other than grey, purple, and blue with the occasional pink (exaggeration but you get it).
      Sumeru Rainforest: Intense greenery with some blue and purple in some areas (the most varied location thus far).
      Sumeru Desert: Aside from the sand yo can expect alot of blue, purple and red, and in the desert near fontaine its very multi coloured.
      Fontaine: Purple and blue, I’ll give you this one since Fontaine’s landscape leaves much to be desired in terms of originality but its done well atleast and the city is alright.
      Natlan (so far): Burgundy and brown reds with multi coloured effects working to give life to lifeless areas.
      The underground realms mainly are one type of main color plus purple.
      The colours purple and blue recur because they are the colors of corruption and pure elemental energy. Aside from that you need to know that genshin has done a pretty good job at making areas have different colors despite irl similarities in color, a rainforest, a normal forest, plains, plateus, and mountains and hills all look green.
      If you can personally change the colors of IRL things while keeping them look grounded in reality then apply for a job at hoyo, but so far I dont think thats a huge issue since there’s only so many colours and you can only use thise colours abit without straining the eyes or oversaturation.
      Just my opinion on the matter though.

      I have no Idea what you mean by the same exact colors as all other regions? were you actually expecting the sky, the trees, the grass to be a different color? Like aside from those, the grafiti like murals/cliffs, nature and animals are absolutely stunning and unlike anything genshin has ever released. Enkanomiya is unique because it's underground/uses a freakin monolith as a light source so of course everything looks alien like a different planet. Natlan still looks like a fitting part/continuation of the genshin world while still looking absolutely unique and that's the point of overall good world design
