Haha I’m opposite in the fact that we are doing year round because we homestead so I need that buffer for when things don’t go as planned or we have a heavy gardening/project week. I like your plan and idea of 6 weeks on, 1 week off. Very doable. We will take off the month of July for fun and family stuff then have all hands on deck for garden early august and birthdays. Thank you for sharing!! It helps! Oh and we did the gather round Christmas unit in December.
@@simplyhomeschool18 we did! I didn’t do everything in it because my kids attention span for the reading portions are short. I am doing the Easter unit now and doing the same thing with it. I haven’t done a regular unit to compare but I find that it’s information overload and have to break it up in pieces for my kids since they are on the younger side.
I tried year round last Summer, but since we have a shorter Summer (July/August mostly) I felt like we got jipped of lots of great outside time last year with trying to get school done in the morning. So...this year we’re taking off from June-August and my daughter will do just a small Daily Summer activities workbook from Evan Moor for 10 of the weeks that we’re off.
Nice!!! Isn’t it awesome that we can all plan it exactly how it fits our family. Gotta love homeschool. I hope you enjoy this years break much better than last year. 😉
We don't have much of a summer here either but we will have to take a lot of time off in fall (major family change coming) so we need to adjust accordingly. Let's just say my children are not thrilled with the idea of school during summer lol
Liz! I just love how your videos always come in time for when I am trying to figure things out. Being that we are going to be doing homeschool differently and not follow a set curriculum like we have been I have been trying to figure out how to plan the year. God is so good and this has given me so much insight. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this. I love the idea of 6 weeks on 1 week off. It seems it may help with the kiddos getting burnt out. I’ll definitely look to see if I am able to implement this in our homeschooling as well!
We are doing 6 weeks on, 1 week off this next school year too! We will start in mid August and our last day is the end of May. We take 1 week for Thanksgiving and 2 weeks for Christmas. It’s not exactly 6:1 but fairly close. I really think it will help us not get burnt out!!
Another great video! Thank you Liz. We are on the down low...4 weeks left and so ready for a break! Your schedule looks great. We normally take 2 weeks off on Dec but a month sounds like a great plan. Was glad for your family to hear on your last video your hubby was well enough to return to work! PTL.
Thank you Amanda. Niceeee! 4 weeks! I’ve noticed that most mamas take the 2 weeks off in December. That was actually our plan for 2020. 🤷🏻♀️ I cannot have the whole month off. A month straight dedicated to Jesus. ❤️✝️❤️ Thanks you for the kind words about my hubby. We are so thankful! 💕 I hope you’re having a great week. ☀️
Thank you for this video. I'm still trying to figure things out when it comes to homeschooling, while my kids are still young (pre-k - 1st grade), and this video was helpful. I just recently had a baby so we have been delaying starting this school year but this helps me figure out when we will start school this year and stop.
Congratulations on your new baby. What a blessing. 💖 I’m so happy that you found this helpful. We actually just started a couple weeks ago. I feel like we start later than most, but that’s ok. The beauty in homeschooling is that you can adjust it to fit your home. It makes life a little bit easier. Have a beautiful day.
Thanks Liz! We love year round. I think we will take off a whole month in May since public school is in that way everything’s not so crowded (we live in Florida) then start our school year in June. I need to factor in our co op day this year since it’ll be a full day and Wednesday’s off. Eeeeek! 3 days to homeschool I don’t see how I’m going to do it but I have a good feeling about it. I need to print some calendars off and do this. You are so very helpful. Hope your having a good day!!!
Hello, I am so happy I found your channel. My kiddos and I will be brand new to homeschool this school year (21-22) and I am trying to prepare and get as organized as possible. I have subscribed and I am excited to journey through all your videos and helpful hints. Blessings!
This is super helpful!!! Thank you! Your organization and planning is very similar to mine. It is hard for me to get a certain way of doing things too.
How about Virtual field trips - make them exotic or international - complete with song, dance, culture, fun kid things that are specific to that country?
Hi Cintia. You may want to talk to Abeka. I know that they require you to send me their grades and tests and specific days. So I’m not sure if Abeka’s schedule will line up with your year round schedule. I hope that makes sense.
I really like how you look ahead to plan, organize, and schedule.
Thanks Mary! Sometimes I wonder if it’s a good thing. Lol. 🙃 It really does help me (mentally).
