The Friday before McCook Lake was flooded, we were driving across the state of South Dakota - there was water EVERYWHERE! Ditches and low ground in fields were full and overflowing, large areas of land not previously underwater were covered with flowing water within them appearing like streams and creeks were abound, rivers and streams were overflowing, and most levies of stock dams and ponds had bust. Many highways and gravel roads where already closed south of I-90 and east of the Missouri River, water had and was attempting to cross I-90 by Mitchell - which eventually closed and I-29 was already closed near Beresford. As we know, or should know - this water flows into the larger waters - like the James, Vermillion, Missouri and Big Sioux Rivers - all flowing to McCook Lake and surrounding areas. HOW COULD THIS GO UNCHECKED before this disaster occurred!
No second guessing. Noem abandoned South Dakota during a flood catastrophe & failed to send SD National Guard to assist victims.
