As parents, we are to teach our children God's eternal Word, and as pastors, we should make sure our churches support this teaching-learning process. Parents have an awesome, holy responsibility to teach their children what it means to love God, follow His Word, and walk with Jesus. We lead by example. Our main spiritual goal, as parents, is to see that each of our children has a personal encounter with Jesus. We want no one missing at Heaven's 'table.' Our churches can support this spiritual teaching-learning process within families by encouraging strong faith in family units, by communicating the importance of the family altar...of having prayer together, as a family, and spending time together in the Word of God. The church can provide Sunday School, Children's Church, Vacation Bible School, Youth Group, and various other teaching and fellowship outlets, but the church cannot shoulder the entire responsibility for the spiritual guidance of the family unit. Parents must be encouraged to fulfill their God-given responsibility to lead their family in the ways of the Lord, to fulfill Deuteronomy 11:19, "Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Thanks for the teaching, Dr. G.
As parents, we are to teach our children God’s eternal Word, and as pastors, we should make sure our churches support this teaching-learning process. The local church can help parents nurture their children without causing them to relinquish their responsibility to do what the church can never do through teaching the Word, having programs, Bible study that is age appropriate. We can assist them in taking responsibility for their children’s spiritual growth through training. We can’t assume that everyone knows how to parent or how to train up their children in the admonition of the Lord. “Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4 HCSB) Be Encouraged! ❤
