    I'm 75 and l have used the Jack Strode, Malcom Jessup tape to brake colts myself. I never had a young team of mules work like yours are! If l hadn't seen it with my own eyes i would have had serious doubts about it being true Zach. You have helped me considerably with my older mules. I love how you're being so willing to share your knowledge too. You could have made a recording of it and sold it for profit but you gave it to us free of charge. Thank you so much my brother!

    Mr. Zach,
    This is Jimmy again. It's hard to believe that those are the same Mules you started out with just a few days or maybe a week ago! You're doing a great job and I honestly believe that the Mules love and trust you! Could be that's why they didn't run off when the mower sound started. I'm proud of you and Marcy for showing us things that my Grandparents knew from my childhood! Thank you and God bless you and your family always my friend!

      Hey Mr Jimmy! Thank you my friend! I am glad to do it. And I’m just glad you guys are enjoying it. That makes it worth doing. Breaking mules is a lot of work!! You have to really stay on top of em and keep em worked everyday. When you lay off of em, they can relapse if you aren’t careful. So, I’ve been laying with it. I am thankful for you folks! The kind encouraging words make it all worth doing. Thanks brother! And thanks for taking time to watch and comment as always. Take care my friend, and do come again..please

    Late seeing the video Zach but they are doing good. A mower will spook a team. Yes sir you are right about wearing them down before you introduce something new like that mower to them. They are doing as good as a lot of mules that have been fooled with a month. Thanks so much for taking the time to show and teach us how to break a young pair of mules. That first trip with the sickle mower (jiggle bar) around that field and along that fence line was very impressive. May and June handled it very well, IMO.

    These mules must be especially smart that they learn so fast. Mowing belongs to the trickier work on the farm with the noise coming from the mower.

    • @zachodommulelogging
      @zachodommulelogging  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They’re no different than any other pair I’ve ever broke. They don’t have to be smart to work to a mower. Just worked. The difference between me and most folks..is when I set in to working a team…I work them! And everyday. When I can’t work them; they get harnessed and tied out. Either way, they’re wearing the harness. If you want broke animals, and I mean sure enough broke stuff…you need to work em. Especially in the first 30 days of their training. After that you can let up a little. But that first 30 days is crucial to get a good start on a pair. You find out how smart they are when you lay off of them a little and see how much they remember. This pair is definitely going to be smart. But stuff like this mower and manure spreader will get all the spook out of em quick. Meanwhile they’re learning how to walk, turn, whoa, and stand…all at the same time. It’s not magic. It’s just time and dedication to a team. That’s why I’ve taken off from logging to devote to my colts. Putting that first 30 days on them! Thanks for tagging along on our excursion. This is just the beginning for this pair of mules. We got a long way to go before I’ll be satisfied with them. And we don’t ever really stop training. But I do want them safe before we get into any real work. Take care and thanks for watching!

    I'm a little behind on the videos, as we were away for 10 days. They have really come along quickly. I would never have even thought about mowing after a week. They are really doing well. Careful of your lines dragging, my friend, if they catch on something that could really put a hurting on you.

    • @zachodommulelogging
      @zachodommulelogging  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, ma’am, they have come along way! But what most people can’t seem to understand… Is that I work them every single day. And that greatly helps and how well they take new things. And as far as my lines are concerned, dragging behind me… They do not have any buckles or anything on them that will catch. So my lines do drag quite often in a lot of different ways. I’ve never found it to be a problem. But, thank you for your concern anyway! I do appreciate that. Thank you also for taking time to watch in comment as always. I appreciate your dedication to my channel. Take care and do come again, please.

    Just curious, with as good as May and June are doing how can a novice tell if a team is really broke or just started really well? I know some of it is the mules breeding but Zach I believe your are a pretty good trainer as well. I'm really excited to see June is not as nervous as she was in the beginning. Stay safe and God bless.

    • @zachodommulelogging
      @zachodommulelogging  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, that is kind of hard to describe. But, there will be small signs of it. And everyone has their own idea of what broke actually means. To some people, if they will walk down the road with a wagon behind them and not run in a ditch, then they are broke. And then, there is me… I expect my mules to know and understand what I am saying, when I say it, and how I say it without speaking loudly either. So first of all, you have to decide what your own idea of broke really is. And what you expect out of a team. Does that make sense?
      Now, you can usually tell a lot about a team when they are fresh. In other words when you first take them loose from the hitch rail and start towards whatever you are going to hook up to. How do they walk? How do they mind? Do they walk straight? Or do they walk sideways? Do they try to run away? Do they walk nice and slow and relaxed? Do they listen whenever you speak? Do they respond when you speak? Do they stand really good for harnessing and also for hitting? Are they patient? Are they fidgety? These are all questions a man can ask himself while looking at a team… I will try and make a video a little bit later on the very subject so you all can understand it a little better. Maybe I will show the difference in Kate and Alice versus May and June. One team is solid broke… And the other team is just well started… And I can show you the differences in the two. That might make a good video! Anyway, I hope this answers your question… And thank you sir for always taking time to watch and comment on my videos. I appreciate your dedication to my channel. Take care and do come again, please.

    Zack, awesome job! I am looking for a pioneer fore cart like the one you use. Any suggestions on how to locate one?

    • @zachodommulelogging
      @zachodommulelogging  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, mine is not a pioneer brand. It is actually a better way brand. And I bought it from Mullets Machinery in Topeka, Indiana. Their phone number is +1 (260) 593-2960. I believe this car that I have is the agriculture version. Because the axles can be adjusted in or out for different row widths. I like it better than the pioneer car anyhow… Anyway, thank you so much for taking time to watching comment. I appreciate it! Take care and to come again please.

    I ran across a mower like that for $100, but it's about 160 miles away. I'm not sure what brand it is, but it looks about like yours. If I had any mules or horses I would probably make the drive. I'm thinking that might not be a bad price.

    • @zachodommulelogging
      @zachodommulelogging  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you’re gonna buy a mower, I would consider either a JD #4 or a McCormick Deering #7 or #9. Those are good mowers and easy to work on. They have lot of moving parts. So for that price I’d say it would need a lot. A good mower usually bring $1000-1200.00 dollars. Anyway, thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Take care my friend and do come again, please

    • @zachodommulelogging
      @zachodommulelogging  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not hurting anything. I’ve already addressed the issue in previous videos. Hair is already growing back. Doesn’t t matter what you cover it with. Until they learn to stay off the chains, it’s going to rub the hair off. Leather or nylon tugs will do the same thing.
