- This is the simplest string instrument I have ever made. I made it mostly out of reclaimed pallet wood.

After seeing this, I built a CBG with 1/8th" maple frets. The darn thing actually plays. What fun!

I know it was supposed to be a low buck build, but some aquila reds are like $8.99 for a four pack. Single most important part of the sound.

Which tuning and string gauges did you use? Sounds like the strings are downtuned to D F# B, but I’m not sure if I’m hearing that right

I have toyed with the idea.
I am thinking of putting guitar pickups on it, and using a small amp inside the house.
That way I can control the volume, and turn it off, if I want.

That is in an interesting sense, not a guitar. It is much closer to the Shamisen. Like the Japanese Shamisen the pulling of the string gives a level of colour that makes this an interesting instrument! Remarkable:-)

Thank you. I like to eyeball the proportions of my instruments. So the scales never come out the same in my instruments unless I make something a second time, which never happens in my case!

That was lovely, Dimitri! I have made a couple of cigar box guitars and three stringed strumsticks, but even if I fret them diatonic I can't play them nearly that well. Sounds very pleasing for being made from such humble materials. Brilliant!

This guy actually pay attention to use basic tools in DIY that every one can build stuff. Very often there is DIY in title but build is carried out with proffesional machinery.
I like the chunkyness of this! I am going to make a bombproof box instrument to keep in my gear, I like the way this sounds, and using wood frets is neat-o! Thanks!

Next tutorial: How to simply play your simple guitar without simply quitting
Many would probably be just as likely to give up if they had the most expensive or unique guitar in the world! Or instrument in general, although upon browsing listings for used instruments to see if there was anything interesting, I bemoaned not having an , "instruments (excluding guitars) option as lucky if 1 in 20 instruments were anything other than guitars and of those maybe another 1 in 20 that weren't a bass, ukulele or an unloved acoustic piano taking up space. Shows peoples preferences. I love my guitars but does nobody play anything else?
