I mean, I'm pretty sure he's not trained... as in the clinical sense. A lot of rock vocalists are completely self-taught, push bad habits and many ruin their voice. But that's how you also got all those amazing rock voices!
@@nathanbull9652 shows how little you know about rock vocals lol. Most rock and metal bands take on some form of vocal training. Look up youtube channel "the charismatic voice" they did a 2 hour podcast with Justin where they discuss all the training he has had and even his surgery for polyps.

I think Justin was at bit of a disadvantage because he has such a distinctive voice and if was to sing how he usually does he’d been found out the first week & the second song was completely different but I didn’t focus on his strengths by choice I’m guessing .. A full version of “True Colours” would be amazing … You could hear him holding back especially with some of the high notes which was a shame but I thought he was still great overall …

he said he didnt like the isolation caused by hiding your Identity in a studio full of people in fears of one of his friends was recognised, giving away the suprise
Might also be worth noting that all the judges dismissed him as a singer, even outright said he can't sing. Then when he's revealed they all went on about how they love him and how amazing he is and how they all love his work. Just comes across a bit fake.

Then when he was singing True Colours I think he was deliberately sounding bad so they couldn’t recognise him. The final time he sang it he sounded WAY better. So I think for sure he was holding back.

Honestly, much like Morten Harket a season later, I think that the acoustics of the show aren't kind to falsetto users, nor will the audience ever support them over someone who belts like they're in a touring musical. Two of the best singers out there in consecutive seasons and both went *far* too soon.
I think he’d have been more annoyed about all the comments about him not being a singer, or a not a trained singer. To be fair I think the song choices early on weren’t really showing off his upper range, which is where his voice really shines. That said, they might’ve wanted to avoid him singing in his falsetto because it might’ve been a bit more obvious.
