Too bad they never released the PSP as a rear view mirror feature. That would've been amazing to add a PSP to this setup in the middle as a rear view mirror!
*note: it was actually a feature on the F1 game in a 2006 E3 presentation. I always wish that dream came true.
19:29 The "hole" in the stock car is actually just pieces of world geometry being rendered into view for the rearview mirror. Those bits of geometry have layers of post-processing filtered over them within the mirror's "visible section" so they can appear how everything else does in the game. Everything outside the "visible section" doesn't have any post-processing layered on, so it's just the raw in-engine geometry being displayed. It seems they didn't extend the "visible section" of the mirror to the full length of it, simply because that part of the mirror isn't seen normally on the main screen.
That could be easily fixed by simply adjusting 2 vertices of the mirror's "visible section" but I doubt they tested every single car in this 5-screen view when developing the tech for it, so some of these bugs were bound to get missed.

9:26 “If I were to do this on PC, how much GPU would I need?” Triple 1440p is very common in PC sim racing, which is a bit more pixels than 5 1080p screens. An Nvidia 3070 runs them just fine.

I also assembled five screens for myself on the PS3 Slim 2508, only I took Samsung C27R500FHI monitors with a bend of 1800R - it turned out to be a hemisphere without distortion. 😁 A Gigabit router is required!

I used to run this setup on Gt5 and 6. Gt was the only playstation game that supported multiscreen. I was gutted when they stopped it on sport and 7. But apparently they wanted to push vr. Hopefully it will return 🙏

And i just learned today that the OG Forza Motorsport on OG Xbox also has multi monitor support!
Here's the games that had it and what you could do with it.
PS2:
GT3
GT Concept 2002 Tokyo Geneva
GT4
TT (Tourist trophy)
GT3 and concept were limited to triple screens but GT4 and TT had up to 6 screens for gameplay and 4 for replay (i assume 5 was for peripheral vision and one for the rear view). The issue was, the game was heavily limited. You could only do time trials or 1v1's against the ai (Like GT Sport's VR mode)
Xbox:
FM1
You could do 5 screens. Oddly, three were for peripheral vision, one was for rear view and one was a live replay. You were able to play the whole game like this.
Xbox 360:
FM2
FM3
FM4
This time it's restricted to three screens. You can still play the entire game like this
PS3:
GT5
GT6
I've thought about how the military connected many PS3s together and how it was also shown in Chappie with the PS4. I imagined being able to play games at twice the resolution or twice the frame rate with 2 PS3s but not like this. Not at all did I think this was possible especially with how each PS3s render its own section with little to no latency to the center PS3.
Now that's an interesting experiment... My dream setup would comprise 2 46" for side windows and an ultra-wide 32x9 60" for the principal display. Shame is there are no ultra-wide screen bigger than 49". Now back to MotorFest!
Yes there is, Samsung has just brought out a 57" ultrawide screen. Equivalent to 2 x 32" screens :)

If there is a FOV option in the game, you should definitely lower it and try this again. Other wise I am amazed that such old game has that option. Great video 👍

I've seen and used 3 on Forza 3, I've seen 3 on GT... But it makes you wonder how many people back in the day actually used 5 for this.

Gran Turismo on Playstation 2 had this 5 Sceen Option too. You could Play it back than to on 5 TVs

fantastic video. Id love to see how it feels with the custom firmware and OC'd ps3's. Ive been messing around with ps3 OC and GT6 and it gives it a nice uplift. GT5 almost never dips below 60 with it.

Forza can also do this (at least 2 & 3) and can even have a 6th screen for the rear view mirror.

I just play on a projector, though on a flat screen, seen people use a curved screen and even multiple projectors for borderless "tripple monitor" setup, but one is already plenty screen real estate for me, its like 2 by almost 4 meters of screen.

on amd cards you got amd eyeinfinity .....not sure how many screens you can set up on a single gpu ...but i use 3 on my pc .....but not in a eye infinity mode ....

you should try gt3's i-link feature, i think you could hook more tv's onto it, which was MILES AHEAD, multiscreen gameplay was already a think in the 2000's
