Wendigoon: "I CAN'T WORK LIKE THIS"
😂
Lmfao "1999" with the Teddy Bear on his head just like "I'M WORKING!!"
"Honey, I'm going out, do you want a soda?"
Wendigoon: "No words could describe the terror I felt. I cowered in my chair in the dark room waiting for the horror to end, knowing it never would."
I think this story could be plausibly read as a metaphor for drug addiction. The weird insistence that he wasn't an addict but his friend was tipped me off. The first two rooms were kind of fun and goofy -- everything you expect. Then it starts to get a little weird, your senses betray you. You find yourself unable to trust your reality. The house is insistent on 'keeping' him. He has sensations of bugs that aren't there. He 'returns' to his normal life but his family (or images of his family) has suffered because of the house. He finally kills 'himself' to escape. It's not a perfect one to one metaphor but I think it gestures towards a discussion of how one can slip into addiction with bravado and get lost.
Edit: I'm reading back on this and I do not in any way want to suggest that the only way out of addiction is through death -- that's definitely not true! I am 100% in favor of current harm reduction models. It's a horror story and it's nihilistic, but life is written by you.
this is such a cool analysis!
oh ur cooking.....
It’s also, like the house, something you never fully escape. The scars are etched into you once you have been an addict.
I guess it's a literal trap house
Maybe some connection to halfway house somehow? Noend house?
Wendigoon saying he remembers the story and then congratulating himself wholeheartedly for guessing what's gonna happen is the funniest thing ever.
Tbf he did read it as a child. He probably remembers stuff as it gets revealed but most likely forgot key plot points.

The ending is genuinely such a banger. The story just slowly escalates to the point where the physicality of the house starts mattering less and less, and one could easily interpret the "10" at the end as a way of saying that while the house is physically over, the horrors linger with you forever, hence there being no end.
You HAVE to read "My wife has been peeking at me from around corners and behind furniture. It's gone from weird to terrifying" just for the first half, really nails that gutteral primal fear that will haunt you in your house at night

Omg I've been saying the same thing!
They did?
Ngl for me it peaked at the “maybe I’ve just gotten better at it” and then the rest just seemed like a courage the cowardly dog episode
i was going to comment this toooo
If there was a metaphor, I read it more for drug addiction. It’s starts off fine but then starts to mess with your senses until you’re not sure what’s real or not; particularly with the bugs crawling on you that aren’t real. Once David decides that he’s done and wants to quit, he goes through “withdrawal”. You have to experience pain and numbness and kill that old part of yourself. But, with drugs, it’s never really behind you; even when you’re finally done, you’re always fighting against it.
And hurting yourself (room 9) and not understanding how the people around you got hurt by what you were doing (room 8). And being invited to it by a friend with a big reward, and then the reward wasn't as good as you thought it was at the end that it's almost laughable that you even started this in the first place. And then being an addict never ends so room 10 appears when you least expect it and you thought it was over. I love your idea, so so so smart
God this makes so much sense honestly and he denies he did any drugs which is such an addict thing to say even though everyone around you can tell
@@yungdraco6075he doesn't have to had done drugs to be a metaphor for them tho. When he mentioned them he was also experiencing some other worldly things the writer may have been trying to add to the characters desperation in trying to explain it....
On the other hand his friend having gone through the same thing and warning him not to go, then him experiencing the hell of drug addiction because he thinks he can handle it is very real.
this interpretation goes so undeniably hard
Even the cliche "door locked behind me", because you might think you CAN stop and go back any time, until something makes you realize you can't.
I think something they missed is the addiction metaphor. The mention of heroin at the start seems kind of abrupt until you realize all the rooms represent stages of drug use and how the struggle doesn't ever really end
This theory makes the sudden plunge from normal into nightmare fuel make more sense. Plus the earlier mentions of his financial, emotional, and mental state. To me that's the "Everyone has a crackhead inside them that's one disaster away from emerging".
That’s a great view! I was thinking room 10 was the outside world - trauma from the experience, so the house stays with him forever. But addiction and its trauma stay with you forever as well.
Plus the denial throughout - the character goes out of his way to say he didn’t do drugs. The denial of hallucinations and the reality of the room.
Then the thought of his friend not making it through, and the constant questioning of whether he could do it.
Very, very good.
@@dgillis91room 10 represents the language used in AA and NA. You are always an “addict” even if you’ve been clean for decades you are still an addict in “recovery” and never recovered. This is to create less shame around the concept of relapse which is what room 7 is a metaphor for.
@@dgillis91 the last two rooms would represent his impact on other people and then ultimately on himself, too. when he leaves room 9; floating into the void with a deep sense of calm, followed by a deep sadness - that sounds a lot like he almost died of an overdose and it was what finally got him to try and quit. The $500 is the laughable reward it gave him compared to everything it took away.
oh shit no wonder i felt such an inexplicable attachment to this story. didn't know why but this was the only creepypasta i read and had such a deep connection to and rly had no idea why but duh that all makes sense😭😭
isaiah’s wife wanting to show hunter specifically, her pillow is super cute to me, like he and isaiah are such good friends their wives are basically friends too and like they all are friends
Hunter can't see Isaiah when they do the podcast. That's why Hunter leans back in his chair to show that he was bored while Isaiah' wife showed the audience the pillow in an overly dramatic way. But they still seem like pretty good friends, especially after being trauma bonded by Borasca haha
The fact that he says he considered ending it in room 8, and then has to kill his doppleganger in room 9 is such a good plot point
What's the significance of it? Not challenging you or saying you're wrong, but that plot point soared WAY over my head.

Weird how David goes from "I had hallucinations as a kid" to "no previous issues of mental instability" 🤔
Maybe because it wasn’t written by a professional writer and was just a spoopy lil project?
It sounded like sleep paralysis, which isn’t really a mental illness indicator.
Misremembered the quote.
I'm on that part now. The quote is "I have no history of drug abuse or any sort of psychosis short of the childhood hallucinations I mentioned earlier"
And even then, those hallucinations were only when I was really tired or waking up
TBH, those aren't mutually exclusive. Children hallucinate a lot, it's not an indicator of more serious issues (or more serious issues down the line) like it might be in older populations.
Wendi got him again, Papa Meat never even realized that Isaiah was literally in a room the whole time
Wendigoon scared by his wife/dog is consistently the funniest thing in every episode, because we all know it's gonna happen... and yet every time
Haha and every time now she's like "You know when I get home!"

When David came, it asked what he's doing up in these parts
He steps through door 10. He's pumping gas & hears a stranger say, "You're not from around here. Mr. Wellers is always looking for universal donors. Mayonnaise is the condiment of the rich."
sauce of the aristocrat
"Wanna buy some fent, boy? I gots the good stuff, city slick, honest to betsy. We's can play the banjo and discuss your childhood trauma while we's waiting for the good doctor to come around if you's want to."
Mayonnaise is the instrument
Isaiah's indignation over Hunter not knowing like core creepypastas was so palpable and DEEPLY relatable lmao
Palpable is a weird word to use here; When you use indignation with 'over' following it, it durastically changes the flow of the sentence giving it a more rough texture. Palpable is weird because, when you're done mentally understanding what you mean by indignation you don't get the sense that it actually is palpable, more like a ghostly feeling.

While I do think leaving the ending ambiguous is spooky by itself, I think the whole trope of never ending stories is very annoying. It has been said before that whatever you imagine is far scarier than what the author can write, and while that is true, it's overused to the point where I just get annoyed, and want to see where a story ends.
For the left right game, I think the 'ending' makes sense in that it kind of comes full circle, but for stories like this it's frustrating more than anything, since the story hits an abrupt 'this is the end', right when it was getting interesting.
@@Zer0--Zer0 yes, a lot of the time this kind of ending is just the writer getting lazy with writing the story and can't be bothered to think of a good ending

It's not that difficult of a book yo understand. It's just a book about a guy (Truant) analyzing articles and research papers supposedly written by various authors about a series of nonexistant short films documented by a photographer (Navidson) that have been collected by another guy (Zampano), who actually wrote the articles about the films, which he invented but don't actually exist. i always interpreted the room 10 ending as - you don’t have to go into room 10, you could ignore it, not open it and live life as normal, but you’ll have to contend with the knowledge that somehow you’re still in the house.
as someone who has had depersonalisation derealisation disorder for six years now, i drew a lot of parallels to my experience internally vs what the main character goes through
my interpretation having not read the sequels is that the tenth room isnt an actual room, but the paranoia that will stick with the protagonist forever now has trapped him within a metaphorical tenth room. idk how to describe it without it sounding stupid.

I have this theory that the house is not actually intended to scare people, specifically, but is rather an occult test for mystics seeking esoteric enlightenment. Like, you're not supposed to enter unless you know what you're in for and possess the proper mental fortitude. There just seems to be a lot of symbolism here that might be coincidental, or deliberate, or maybe even subconscious on part of the writer. Consider:
-First room: Full of obviously fake scares. Represents baseline reality, specifically the idea that what we can perceive with our senses is an illusion. It's trivial to clear in the same way living without ever questioning reality and never seeking deeper truths is the easy option.
-Second room: The scares are still fake, but there's a fog that partially obscures the protagonist's vision, which may symbolize a growing awareness of the aforementioned illusion: A subconscious, intuitive suspicion that ones senses can't be relied on, and that there are things hidden from view.
-Third room: The main feature is shadows that make no sense. There are shadows on the wall that shouldn't be there, then David finds he has lost his own shadow. Perhaps an allusion to Plato's Allegory of the Cave? At this point the suspicion from the previous room is confirmed: Your senses can't be trusted and you are surrounded by illusions. Like Plato's escaped prisoner, you are starting to grasp that what you believed to be Truth is just shadows on the wall.
-Fourth room: Utter darkness. You have realized that your conventional senses won't avail you, but without them you are blind. Realizing that the world is an illusion won't help you when you still can't perceive the Truth. However, there is a hum - a sound you can perceive, yet it is indistinct and as far as you can tell, without meaning. This reminds me of the Om, or Aum, from Indian religions: The sacred sound/syllable that is the essence of the supreme Absolute. Momentarily, the lights flash back on, but there's nothing there. Perhaps this represents doubt? A momentary return to profane reality, which may be a falsehood but is safe and simple to navigate: The seeker of Truth deluding himself into thinking he can just forget everything he's learned and go back to being ignorant. The hum keeps appearing later, perhaps as a reminder of the ultimate goal.
-Fifth room: An inexplicable indoor forest (represents the natural world?) where David starts feeling countless bugs crawling over his body. The bugs are not actually there and the sensation is notably harmless, just very unpleasant. While David handles this very poorly, this room would theoretically be very easy to clear by just exercising willpower and simply ignoring the phantom bugs. May symbolize physical earthly distractions, all the little everyday troubles and worries that are ultimately meaningless yet still hard to ignore.
-Sixth room: The little girl who's also somehow a horned monster. I always suspected this is supposed to be Baphomet, the goat-headed entity with both male and female attributes, who represents balance or an equilibrium of opposites in occultism. Appears to serve as a gateway guardian, indicating that beyond this point the tests are going to get more extreme. Metaphorically, most would-be mystics probably don't make it past this stage. The entity tells David that he "should have listened," and perhaps this is not as sinister as it sounds: It may just be pointing out that he was in no way ready for this test, that he's too spiritually weak to endure the journey and face Truth. Never the less, David mindlessly creates the seventh door without realizing it, maybe implying that moving forward from this point requires ones mind to transcend in some way.
-Seventh room: Murdered parents. This room seems to represent accepting loss, the eventual destruction of everything you love and treasure. It's the first out of three rooms themed around relinquishing earthly ties. The gruesomeness of the scene aside, we all have to come to terms with the death of our parents eventually, even if we may not want to think about that too much. So, it's actually a rather apt way of symbolizing unavoidable loss.
-Eighth room: Here David literally has to fight and kill himself. It may be easy to think this represents self-harm, but one could also interpret it as David having to destroy the version of himself holding him back: His fears, doubts, his vices and weaknesses.
-Ninth room: Nothingness. This represents ego death, the annihilation of the self. Not exactly literal death, but rather letting go of ones final earthly tie: Ones own existence, which is still just a temporary thing that must be transcended.
-Tenth room: David has now _technically_ passed the test, but only by brute-forcing it and without learning anything. He has won the 500 dollar prize, but of course the money seems meaningless to him now. He believes himself to still be inside the house, not realizing that the distinction is also meaningless. It's not that he's still trapped, but that he was always trapped, even before entering the house. He simply isn't able to accept that - he has found the Truth, but can't comprehend or even acknowledge it. The test was supposed to guide one towards spiritual enlightenment by allegorically breaking down ones perception of reality. But to an unprepared, uninitiated mind like David's, that enlightenment manifests as madness.
... _Or_ it's just demons trapping people in a house and subjecting them to psychological torture. Could be that too, I guess.
I like this one more.
Cool analysis, ain’t no way the author was doing all that without some more in story context.
I absolutely adore this interpretation of the story so fucking much. I love noend house because of how many cool interpretations you can make out of the story

wonder what happens in that one
I forgot the name to this one. Seconded.

The story itself is good but nothing too ground breaking. But i distinctly remember Dark Somnium's reading of it freaking me OUT
I don't know if you're the same person or not but someone talked about this one in the previous or one or the previous episodes and now I want them to actually cover this one JUST so I can for sure know if it's the story I'm thinking of or not 😂
Question for Wendigoon and Papa Meat. Would you gents be interested in me hosting a cryptid inspired D&D one shot for you all to play? I make D&D content and recently heard Wendigoon was gonna try out the game. as a fan of creep cast I would LOVE to host something for you guys ❤
Yesssss pls pin this
That would be so fun!
@@InkedCurvez thanks! Just imagining them both stumbling terrified as their characters try to make their way through a thick forest hunting down a Wendigo or some other creature makes me laugh out loud 🤣

@@EE-jp5ev much appreciated my friend! 😊
Hunter is the perfect fish out of water for me. I never looked into horror growing up so it's cool to have Hunters reaction match mine while Isaiah mimics that horror enthusiasts friend. Perfect spooky chemistry.
I love it when the titles of these stories don't sound familiar to me and then I get a couple minutes in and get slapped in the face with the memory of reading it late at night as a 13-year-old. As soon as they got to room one I said out loud "oh shit I remember this!" There's something kind of warm and nostalgic about it. It's not a feeling I expected when this podcast began.
Looks like I'm creepin' instead of sleepin' again
When the dog came on screen, I was like... Wendi either has some kind of hound or a silly little breed like a pug. Corgi is so on brand HAHA
Corgis are awesome.
For the lightning round, my favorite short creepypasta is "The Portraits (a.k.a. The Cabin in the Woods)". Literally just 2 paragraphs but still a neat read.
For a not-short one, I need to mention "Abandoned by Disney" just because it's what opened this whole rabbit hole for me all those years ago.
Just yesterday watched a video essay about the story universe of abandoned by Disney and oh my god it was beautiful. They'd love it
man The Portraits was fucking horrifying to me when I read it some years ago, I remember Abandoned by Disney too but I have no idea if I read it myself or listened to someone read it
It's a shame Kyle didn't come in with his Beats by Dre speaker and start kicking open doors, bumping Trap Queen and Black and Yellow
Realest of real
wake up babe new creep cast just dropped (i am horribly addicted to this podcast)

I genuinely have a problem

To whomever edits the CreepCasts, tysm for adding foley to those tense story beats, really adds so much to the immersion. The sound design in The Showers was top-notch too!! :D
Fr!! The Showers was crazy-I was like damn they’re putting in hella work, it’s so good
4:00 “without further ado” 6:13 “you wanna get into no end house?” 7:30 (actually begins). I love this podcast.
There was in fact further ado.
Hi, i just wanna say that you guys have become a sort of comfort channel to me. Love the banter, love how freely you two talk. Keep up the good work, it touches so many hearts all over
I know these stories are old but man I am seeing a pretty common/consistent use of "And then what I saw/heard/etc. shocked me to my core/would never be forgotten". It's fascinating because these are old as sin and are like finding the first person to say "Yo".
"I was fourteen when I first killed myself." Such a cool concept and has been stuck in my mind ever since I first read it.
I don't know many creepypastas, but please for the love of God can we get some more long form stories (left/right, borasca, penpal, etc.)
This is my new favorite thing to fall asleep listening to, but I really only have those 3 that are long enough to just let play and drift off.
Love you guys, and this show.
Check out his old livestreams on Wendigoons second Channel
No End House is a very obvious and on the nose allegory to depression and/or addiction. The reader is left to relate their own experiences onto it. The main character makes it through their rock bottom, but it is still a lifetime long battle with no end. Just like the house is faced one room at a time, we face the battle one day at a time.
The more I think about it, the more I believe it's about addiction. The humming is just way too good a representation of the itch for your next hit. Even once the horrors of addiction are known to you it still drives you onwards to deeper and darker things just to escape it.
Hunter sneakily actually yawning at kayla is a great little easter egg

STRANGEST SECURITY TAPE IVE EVER SEEN HAS TO BE NEXT!!!! A classic that isn’t nearly as remembered as it should be, easily my favorite ending to a creepypasta
I agree that was one of my favorites back in the day
A favorite of mine
it feels weirdly like I've read or listened to it before but may not have actually and now I feel like I need to look it up to see if I have or not
Very nice video again!
My suggestion for future episodes is "There is no antimemetic division" from the SCP main site. Probably will need 2 parts. Keep up the great work!
Y’all should do an episode on Smile Dog, the story freaked me out so bad as a kid but it’s so corny rereading it as an adult, keep up the great work!
Agreed! Scared me as a kid but now it's just kinda silly and fun?
I saw the image a few months back and couldn't stop laughing at how scared little me was off it!
I really love this podcast so much y'all........ I'm an anxious person and I usually can't handle horror content on it's own. I need some comedy or casual vibes to break things up. That's exactly what Creepcast is and it makes me SO happy to be able to enjoy the genre without being negatively affected by it. Much love!! 💛
If I ever by happenstance see Hunter out in the wild at a gas station, as a 6'4" 240lbs bald and bearded man, I'm definitely going to sneak up behind him, put my hands on his hips, and whispering "long way from home, huh? What brings you out here?"
You did this to yourself, Pater Carnis.
I’m 6’4, 300lbs, balding, bearded AND black! Mind if I join? 😂 We’re gonna scare tf outta Hunter!
@@LorenXLX this is some wholesome fun right here, take my like 😄
You can't see right, you can't even think right, despite this, what remains of your mind forces you to listen. There's a voice, no, a myriad vocies coming from somewhere, broken up occasionally by noises from beyond the room. Not asleep, not truly awake either, you find yourself listening to the voices' stories, familiar tales of your childhood, though they seem to mock you, even knowing of your lonesome nature as a child. It's Hell, one of it's circles, but you'll stay. For the money, for your wife. You're Wendigoon on the CreepCast podcast and this is The Red Thread.
Bro took me on a narrative with twist and turns all to arrive at a Wendy’s Goon roast. legendary
@@kangaroodan690 you can't goon without wendigoon
I think the reason creepypastas were so short in the day was because they replaced the old urban legends. Those were an oral tradition, so they were short by nature. And they were always second or third hand accounts so there was an excuse to not have many details. The difference was that nobody needs a picture of a hook hanging from their car door handle. But in the early and mid 2000s, most people had access to some kind of video or image editing software, so it was easy to take a picture of some random kids and edit slender man into the background. The technology became part of the new urban legends. Now that those stories have been around for a while, and there is a good audience for them, writers are free to create more elaborate stories. They are almost replacing books to a degree. You can see that from how many creepypastas actually had books made after the fact.
Hunter never hearing of Ben drowned is like EDP not knowing what a cupcake is.
If Hunter buried Wendigoon in the style of Penpal, then in his will, Hunter will have to be kidnapped and taken to Broken Bow, Nebraska and forced to be asked if he was from out of town. XD
This is kind of a nostalgic story for me! Feels like something you’d see on SomeOrdinaryGamers back in the day.
This might be me looking too deep but I feel like the story is supposed to parallel with the negative effects of drug abuse, I don’t see why else it’d specify the friend was a heroin addict, and continue on to have the main character say he has never used drugs, unless it was a classic old creepypasta trope of bringing random details up.
That, the constant sensory distortions, the invisible bugs that cannot be batted away, the main character meeting themself and all the exchanges and events there…
I think it’d be amazing if you covered urban legend type stories on the channel, and also agree that sticking with audio is probably for the best.
A short story I highly recommend is "Because You Are My Baby" (especially Dark somniums reading) never had a story be so creepy and brutal to having me cry with sympathy and hope. An absolutely beutiful story
I'm really loving the added sound effects in these latest episodes! Please keep it up! It adds to the spooky mood! For a future episode, I suggest "It All Started With a Hot Air Balloon" and "The Pigeons in this Town Aren't Normal".
18:59 "The hum became a wild screech" after seeing that nothing was there? Genuinely gave me chills. I was walking around my apartment listening to that on my wireless headphones, got chills all over and almost froze in place like a kid hearing their parents angrily yell their name lmao
“Bury me in an undisclosed location under Hunter’s house.” Awww, the besties. I love them
Regarding the s-word, I propose the phrase “DIY died”
My friend and I both have been through the darkest parts of depression and it’s a phrase that makes me smile at something that sometimes seems hopeless
Love it! There’s something very freeing about being able to laugh about something that once had a firm hold on you. I understand when people don’t ever want to make light of DIY dying, and I commend such compassion and care, but there’s definitely a place for laughter when it comes to heavy topics. As someone who’s been through depression, too, being able to laugh at how ridiculous my thoughts were at that time is as important as being compassionate toward my former mindset. If that makes sense.
@@HeartlandHunny makes total sense! I joke at my own trauma and mental illness because it’s how I cope. My username is a prime example, I’m bipolar type 1. Thank you for sharing ❤️
This story does the idea of the story not being over feel a lot less uncomfortable than The Showers did. I felt like we didn't get any answers with The Showers, just questions, which got frustrating, but with this we're just looking for more scenarios in the next parts, as opposed to the reader feeling out of the loop. Great read fellas.
I listened this earlier in spotify, but came back for the dog. I wanted to see Benny. Was worth it.
Literally same. I listened on Spotify last night and thought “I can’t wait to see the pupper interruption on the TH-cam upload.”

I just got home from a charity event benefitting Men's health/mental health and sat down to watch this. I never comment but had to share for the sheer coincidence of the "un-aliving conversation." I won't share my own rider donation page but do encourage anyone interested to check out and support the 'Distinguished Gentleman's Ride' which happens worldwide, even if only to watch people ride old school motorcycles in suits and top hats for a good cause!

What kind of a breakup
I'm so glad Wendigoon brought up house of leaves cause I was thinking that the entire time. Especially the last room where he's falling through nothingness and still inside the house is directly lifted from house of leaves. I need Wendigoon to make a video about house of leaves so bad. There's not nearly enough content analyzing it on TH-cam.
From what another commenter said, apparently he's going to cover it in a video. And in one of the previous CreepCast episodes an earlier one you can see a copy of it on his desk in the background.
My favorite short Creepypasta is "Colorado Fishing Trip" I think you would both really love it. Great episode!
