    I’ve had so many muscle/sports cars over the years, I thought I would never own a MX5, but 2 months ago bought a '21' Grand Sport manual trans. and I’m in love. I want to drive this more than my '21' Supra. Hard to explain but it feels like it’s a part of me when I drive it, a ton of driver involvement. Congrats on the car. ✌️

    I have the 2020 version Club with the same SRC paint and Recaros. I'm glad subsequent years have gotten improvements, but mine has so many mods that have improved the OEM offering, that I'm not sure the new models would be better. It's my fifth Miata and after nearly a million miles, I still can't wait to drive it.

    Thanks for the video. I’m a corvette/muscle car type of guy but I’m buying one of these soon to try the light weight, raw, sports car, as any enthusiast should. Once I saw that Mazda made this body style look mean and exotic, plus the 5 second range 0-60, 35mpg, inexpensive and reliable, mods available…. I never thought I’d say this, but I’m in!!! Gonna try to find an all black brembo/bilstein/recaro hard top. Nice choice though, I would definitely sport your version too. The red almost looks like color changing paint the way it responds to light amongst the curves.

    Congrats my friend! Like you I have a love affair with my ‘21 RF Club BBR. My color is Polymetal grey. I’m 72 and have bought 77 vehicles since I was 17….many being sports cars. My first new car was a ‘70 Mach1, then a ‘73 Vette, a ‘87 Supra, an ‘87 CRX SI, a ‘95 300ZX, 4 Honda S2000s and my current Miata is my 4th ND and my 6th Miata overall. By a substantial margin the RF Club is my favorite sports car. I’ve done a few mods, nothing crazy. My Goodwin Racing SSST axle back exhaust is my favorite, makes the car come alive and urging me to row thru the gears. The rest are cosmetic like full complement of LEDs, charcoal sequential side markers, weighted shift knob and my last will probably be a Guardian Designs steering wheel. Your Soul Red Crystal looks amazing….enjoy!

      Thank you! You have had some great cars. I would love to drive a S2000 one day to compare it to my Miata. I have been looking at the Goodwin exhaust. I’m glad to hear you like it I believe I will be purchasing one soon. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy your Miata!

      @@MikesCarObsession …..you mentioned that your Miata is the closest thing to a motorcycle and the that is true since the ND2 came out. The higher red line and extra hp helped that come true….but I would say that the S2000 truly achieved that title long ago, especially with the AP1s (2001-2003) with their 9,000rpm red line. I had an ‘02 Spa Yellow and an ‘03 New Formula Red and banging the rev limiter at a stratospheric 9,000 was unlike anything I’d ever driven. The down side with the S2000 was it was very pedestrian, almost Civic like, when not driven balls to the wall. The fact that you had to take it up to 6500 just to get into VTech territory kinda got old after a while and could get you in trouble with the law. You really had to wind it out to have fun whereas the ND2 Miata is a blast at any speed. The great thing is if you have a sub 50,000 mile S2000 right now it’s worth as much as the original MSRP. No Miata will ever see those numbers…but they sure put a smile on your face!

    Your video helped me decide for red; ordering a Club w/BBR shortly. And after being told I wouldn't fit (6'0" 220#), I found it easier than my 982 Boxster T to get in & out of; sill height and ground clearance are higher in the Miata. No issues w/leg room or headroom at all in the soft top. By the way, the 6M in the BT is excellent, higher effort than Miata, and similar precision, my experience. Thanks for the detailed walk though.

    I want a manual again for my next vehicle, and I’m kinda going back and forth between a Miata and a manual Integra A-Spec. It’s going to be my daily driver, but my partner has a practical vehicle so that’s always there if I need it. Tough decisions 🥵. You forgot to mention that your package includes the brembo brakes. I have the same car in gray (2021 model year)…..soul red is terrific. If there’s a choice between this and a mustang-def keep the Miata.
    We’ve had some overlaps….I’ve also owned two brzs and now a gr86. A 2022 civic si and a 2013 boxster s (2013 mt)….not quite a cayman but very similar as you know.
    I will say - if your brz was a gen 1 - the current model’s shifter is every bit as good as the Miata’s. Both are the equal of the 981 boxster
    For your Miata I will suggest a couple mods that I did: 1. New leather shift/ebrake boots. 2. Mx5 things phone holder (fits in the cup holder slot near passenger seat. 3. Rexpeed steering wheel (oem is too thin). Those tweaks have made a great car better.
    I also buy/sell too many cars. Think I’ll keep the club for a while! Enjoy

      Sounds like you have had some great cars as well! I did enjoy the brz but for me the Miata is the sweet spot. I’m a convertible guy so that’s probably a big reason. The brz is a better daily though imo.

    I use to own a 17' RF Miata also in Manual. So much fun, it was supposed to be a weekend car, but ended up being a daily driver as I had too much fun driving it. Would probably still have it if it wasn't for someone side-swiping me a few years back :( . You're right, aside from the new Honda Civic Type R\Acura Integra Type S manual, it is such an enjoyable manual transmission.
    I too have driven Corvette, Porsche, BMW, and VW manuals, and i just don't find those as enjoyable. Miata's clutch are light and easy to drive, transmission doesn't mind if you shift quickly (BMW hates this, especially from 1 to 2), and notchy enough for OEM.
    I plan on getting the ND3 when it comes out later this spring\early summer, but this time i'll try out the soft top version.

    I've owned many enthusiast cars, all of which were manuals, 987 & 981 Boxster S, 991.2 Carrera T, Lotus Exige, Ariel Atom 2, FK8 Type R, and a NC1, ND1, and ND2, and honestly? You can't have more fun than you can have in a Miata. Other cars may have more performance, but I genuinely never felt a car was more fun than the ND2. And don't feel you're missing out on manuals either, the ND has as good of a manual feel as any of the cars I mentioned, and actually feels a lot better than the Lotus, Ariel, and 987 Boxster. • @youdidntbuildthat47
    @youdidntbuildthat47 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Very nice MX5. A couple of questions for you: are you noticing an excessive amount of chips in the paint? I’m reading about some who say the paint is thin on Mazdas and it doesn’t take much to chip the paint. I’m sure it may have something to do with how low it sits too. Next question, have you had an opportunity to drive the car for a few hours at a time? Just wondering if the Recaro seats are reasonably supportive/comfortable after an extended road trip.

    • @mikeb9569
      @mikeb9569 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My 2020 with 43K has many chips. I would recommend paint protective film, especially for the Soul Red Crystal as it's a hard paint to match.

    • @MikesCarObsession
      @MikesCarObsession  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi- not many paint chips in 5k miles. IMO ppf in my area at least is pretty pricey. I don’t think it’s worth it but with that being said if you want your car looking like new then it could be. I don’t mind a few chips so the 2k or so dosent seem worth it to me. The seats are great! I’m a big guy- 6’2” 225 lbs and I have no problem for a couple hours. I probably wouldn’t want to road trip it but it could be done for sure. Probably even more so if you’re a smaller person. Hope this helps

    I am in the same boat. I have 2 motorcycles that I don't ride much anymore. Everyone is on their cell phones and is trying to kill me every time I go for a ride. My wife and I just drove an MX-5 for the first time today. We both prefer the soft top for riding. But, both like the look of the hard top when the car is just sitting. The car felt much faster than I thought it would. That is until I looked at the speedometer and I wasn't even breaking the speed limit. 😄 It would still be hard for me to sell the motorcycles and our 1970 VW convertible that drives sometimes and is probably a death trap. I am 6' tall and 210lbs and think the Recaro seats might give the slightest bit more leg room maybe? But, I think the Recaro's are more comfortable. I have to ask. Do you miss riding your motorcycles as much after buying this?

      Cornering flat at the limits of grip is as much fun or more than leaning into the corners. I've had bikes and don't miss them, especially given how drivers are these days. If you get a Miata, get one with an LSD, it can tidy up your recovery when the rear gets loose.

I am going to take it in to see if they will replace the top before it's out of warranty. Right now my hood latch is loose so it rattles, the steering wheel leather comes off if you look at it wrong, and with all the reports of transmission issues I don't want to track it or do any autocross. Getting PPF on the entire front end is pretty much a requirement with this new water based paint as it chips so easily. Then there is the AC lines cracking issue that doesn't seem to have fix from Mazda. Never had any of these concerns with my other Miatas.
