Love it! I always enjoy your monologues. Just a couple of notes, a Five Star Admiral rank/title is 'Fleet Admiral' and is normally given as a mark of exemplary (usually wartime) service, not as a regular promotion. Additionally, the uniformed head of the USN is known as the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO). The CNO is directly subordinate to the Secretary of the Navy and the President.
Also not exactly correct but close, a five star Admiral/General goes outside of a mark of service. It is the person who is in command of a multinational military operation wherein other nations Generals and Admirals could still act in their own way due to a four star being their peer. The five star rank is used in this case to be the ultimate rank so there can be no peer-to-peer conflict among leadership. It allows for one central commander to better keep the tempo of decision making and action. Which would theoretically be something to exist in this game as the character would need the promotion eventually due to the fact you can battle alongside allies navies. But this wouldn't be how it starts at the outset of the campaign. The US would have no five star admirals or generals in peace. Unless there is allies as well you would not see a five star anything even in time of war as within the US military someone would be given command without the need for promotion and with the other generals being from the same nation issues would be much less likely to occur even as technical by rank peers
I don't know if you realised but on the CL Light Haven the fore deck never got changed to 2 inches due to a misclick and that's why there was a aft weight offset.
Love the story of these Admirals. I recently became a regular viewer and now subscriber, and I am pleased to say I love this channel. The Germany "Big Guns" campaign inspired me to buy UA:D and I have no regrets. Love the content!
For me, it was the “big guns” campaign and the Italian campaign with the fastest ships possible. I bought the game, and literally my first campaign save (as UK) spawned a Battlecruiser named _Devastation._ The ship proved worthy of this name after taking on _and sinking_ an entire enemy convoy and its escorts (9x transports, 4x destroyers, 1x battleship) on its own, taking only minor cosmetic damage and scuffed paint in the process. This in itself is significant, as the enemy pretty much hard-countered my ships (to *match 1 enemy ship, I’d have to throw 5* of my equivalent ships at it, and *4 of those wouldn’t come back).* Why is it that the Battlecruisers are almost _always_ the most dangerous ships? The Regina from the Italy fast ships campaign, the Mars from the Germany big guns campaign, and the Devastation from my first campaign were all absolute powerhouses.
That realism remark made me chuckle :D Good to see UAD back on the screen, i cant wait for the next episode! But first and foremost, enjoy your weekend =)
Love how he saw the funnel capacity of the definitely not an Omaha Hull and completely nope out of it and built a new ship class 🤣 "19%?!. Fuck *that* "
On the destroyer, switching positions of funnel and torpedo launcher would probably fix the offset. Just an idea for later refit. Also that cruiser has some juicy spots for 2" guns on top of the secondary tower. MORE DAKKA! I also noticed they added "optimal speed" on the stat card when choosing hulls. Neat!
If you want a battle cruiser. I reccomend making an Alaska type design. Highly advanced 12 inch guns which can pen all but big battleships. But fast enough to hunt down anything else. Maybe use them as commerce raiders or independent strike force hunter idk
Or he could just modify the experimental on paper Florida class battleship by making it faster with less armor. He could also use the on paper Georgia class.
I picked this up again over the last few days. Been playing as the Italians. I hope they scale back how easy it is for a war to start. Just operating my fleet (and I didn't make a big fleet 4 BB's, 10 CL's, and 15 TB's in the hopes of not generating to much hostility) in the Mediterranean around Italy, and from the Italian port in East Africa was enough to start a war with the Russians, then fighting that war pissed of the Germans to the point of war, then fighting that war pissed of the Americans who also started a war. In less than 10 years, I've been in 3 wars (Germany sued for Peace, but the USA & Russia are fighting). They rest of the world isn't much different. I think the US in my game is at war with 75% of the world (which they are holding there own in as they have 4x the ships of anyone else) and has deep negative relations with everyone they are not at war with.
"The US does NOT have battlecruisers! The Alaskas are just super heavy cruisers." "Isn't that the same?" "No because we don't call them battlecrusiers."
By the time the Alaskas came about, "Battlecruiser" was a pariah by all Nations. I would classify Alaska as a Battlecruiser; but then, I have my own set of Warship Design Theories.
By 1936, the Warship Classifications based on Displacement, as per The Washington Treaty Of 1922 and The 1930 London Treaty, were no longer practical; due, to Technological Innovations that demanded the Warship Classification Displacements be increased. Thus, 1938-1945 Warship Designs were just as chaotic as Pre-Washington Treaty Warship Designs. One of the purposes of the Washington Treaty Of 1922 was to standardize Warship Classifications. Thus, a 2,000-Ton Warship armed with a 1,000-Ton Single-Turret Gun couldn't be classified as a Battleship. Prior to The Washington Treaty Of 1922, there were various different Warship Designs that performed in similar ways, and had similar Mission Profiles, and had similar Design Features that were being created by all Nations; thus, Warship Classification was inherently becoming more relevant in trying to determine how to rate one's National Warship Designs with another Nation's Warship Designs. The mixing-and-matching of Warship Displacement, and Warship Armament, and Warship Armor Schemes, and Movement Performance, and Mission Roles, resulted in a very chaotic concept of Warship Designs. The establishment of the Warship Classifications by The Washington Treaty Of 1922 had the unplanned benefit of limiting Warship Design Concepts to a few Warship Types. Without the Warship Classification Treaties after 1938, each Nation had to seek out its own set of Warship Design Concepts; and, used the abandoned Treaties as guidelines for their Newer Warship Design Classifications for simplification.
I wouldn't say the Americans are entirely warmongers and actively seek conflict (at least not in this era) but I full heartedly believe they will set out to prove a point. Pretty spot on monologue
Before I update to 1.9 I have to finish my Britain campaign that I have run from 1890 up to now 1942. I'm at just over 4.3k Prestige and last night may have finished the campaign off with 8 years of peace but I had a power outage. I have run this for near 4 RL months.
Messed around with the US in UAD for a while, started in 1890 and been off and on the campaign and have so far been at war with Austria-Hungary. Started in 1896 and ended in the same year with a decisive engagement in the Adriatic as soon as things kicked off. So far I've kept a stable budget, with a net gain on funds and a rather powerful economy. It seems with the US it's easy mode. I don't know about any other start dates.
I find that one of the biggest factors for destroyer weight balancing is the funnel position since it also moves the entire engine compartment with it. But yeah, it’s always a struggle to balance a destroyer and actually use the displacement you’re given.
The US Haven class light cruiser, where the fore deck is the poor deck... atleast in terms of armor.. :D (You accidentally missed that one when you were distributing armor, so it is only 0.8" hence why the ship was heavy in the aft)
You seem to have a habit of ignoring the deck armor when armoring and balancing the ship. Deck armor is quite heavy, and having 0.8 in fore and 2in aft is a massive weight difference that is hard to balance out with belt armor.
have you also noticed the flags of the undplayable nations on the world map? Including the Netherlands. I wonder if these will be future playable nations.
If they can be implemented, I would like to play one of them minor nations, Sweden would be my first because their navy from their swedish empire times and to WW2 are pretty interesting.
I could see the Dutch being something-that battlecruiser design that was cancelled due to the capitulation in WWII could be a mighty interesting basis for a small but powerful nation. Could be interesting to see minors be hard to play on their own-a playthrough that requires alliances would actually be a nice challenge.
That intro was funny. Let's go out and pick some fights until we've beaten everybody at least once! A bit less nuanced than we'd actually say it. What we're doing is 𝙡𝙞𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 these people... whether they want it or not ;)
"Scout Cruiser" was a pre/WW1 designation. Old design philosophy by your 1930s date. I suppose that's why some of the options weren't optimal compared to others in this game.
You need to have another look at your armor thicknesses. Your destroyer has no main belt and the cruiser has no forward deck but overloaded the forward belt to make up the weight offset.
Wouldve been funny if you built a Brooklyn type cruiser and watched the horror in the Russian Faces when 15 6 Inch rapid firing guns blew in their faces
You need to change the name of the CA Kansas. In the US Navy at this time, State names were reserved for Battleships. CA's were named after US cities. As a Patreon, I ask that you rename it the USS Milwaukee.

The scout cruiser by this point is a kind of obsolete hull, from 1915 - 1925 I believe. It still has a ram bow, for example.
I had the ai autobuold and they made the Georgia battleships down to the small guns. They called em Iowas tho
