    you are a breath of fresh air on youtube, you seem to be genuine, i think that is rare, i lived in the philippines for over 10 years, i am back in the usa now for 5 years, not sure if i will go back to live full time, so i know what you are saying is truthful, any expat would be a fool not to talk to you if they need advice, my wife still has a house there in baler aurora area, we are in north carolina at the present time and all is good for us here, we are fortunate
    if i ever travel back to the philippines, i would like to meet up and have a beer or coffee

You mentioned you started at 38 Park Avenue and then moved to Marco Polo when Chad interviewed you. I was looking at 38 Park Avenue. I wanted to know why you moved - maybe I should consider Marco Polo instead? Looking to lease before making a long term commitment by buying. Thanks in advance, it would be great meeting up with you when I come, I really like your positive attitude 👍

      38 Park is brand new. It's good if you want a centralized smaller condo. Marco Polo has bigger for the same price. I love both though. Let's meet up when you get here.

    • @dsrrellgriffith1161
      @dsrrellgriffith1161 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I lived next to 38 park in IT park for a few years, i lived in cebu city for 7 years. Visiting 30 years, Marco polo is older, that is why u get more for your buck. Marco polo is farther from the city center, like ayala mall and IT park etc,,,,I was staying at Avida Riala and the only complaint was the construction of the last tower. It would go late into the night, and sometimes so loud u have to leave your condo. Not sure about hearing the construction now, i am sure 38 park residents could hear it. But it looked like they were almost done, i liked IT park because many places to eat and u can walk. The small ayala mall in IT park is adequate, i liked IT park because its hard for me to walk long distance. I also have stayed at Solinea condos next to ayala mall, i liked that place a lot. They have a huge pool, small gym, and next to everything. Remember,,,use grab, or other app, and i have never used a wallet. I always use the thin under shirt pouch, but i never had a problem with getting robbed in cebu, the only problems was the drunk expats.

    Question: Why don't you just go Western Union from a US Bank to BDO? (Cost?) And on health insurance and this is just me because I'm always diving or biking or hanging off a cliff or something, I just shop the travel insurance guys....runs around $150-$200/month. I know that sounds like a lot but recompression (bent from diving) in the PH can run $20K usd......and scooter accidents are very common there. I only spend about 3-4 months a year there, but even if I lived there full time, I would want something for catastrophic healthcare.

Is there any deductions that you can take from living in Cebu? I think that by having your channel, it may open you up for more US deductions to offset any US dividends that you're collecting. Ppl might think "Oh, he's not going to have any IRS deductions", but it's probably still going to be a process if a person's drawing Social Security and collecting dividends/interest from stocks or other US investments.

      For 3 months or less you may be better off renting a condo through Airbnb or Rent Pad. Look them up on internet for prices and photos of available condos.
      I just spent 5 weeks in the PI in Nov/Dec ‘24, stayed 1 week in one condo, then switched to a different condo for 3 weeks (both fully furnished and price included utilities, washer/dryer, dish soap, shampoo, etc)
      I used some hotel points and stayed the first several nights in a hotel while I shopped for condos.
      It was nice to stay in different parts of city and different condos, so you can get a feel for different areas.
      You will get a better price renting a condo for the monthly rate versus the weekly rate…but I did not care. I did not want to commit for a month, then find out I did not like the condo, location or neighbors.

      @@hersh1669- BDO is his bank. If you are just in the Philippines for a month or two, just use your normal ATM and credit cards.
      I try to minimize use of credit cards at locations that might be questionable. Always keep one credit card that you never use, then if you discover that the card you have been using gets scammed, you have the unused card for backup/emergencies (this has never happened to me, but I take the precaution).
      I pay cash for Grab rides.
      Getting cash at an ATM is always the best exchange rate. When at an ATM or using a credit card, if the machine gives you the option to convert the withdrawal/charge to Pesos or make withdrawal/charge in your home bank currency, always select your home bank/country currency…you will get the international (better) exchange rate.
      This is sort of a new thing.

    how can i access my accounts if i'm using a PH sim. obviously phone number would be different, so what's the best way to go about it?
    should i keep a cheap text only international plan available from the usa, and just use 2 phones? not sure, but this has been bothering me.

    You are welcome for the interactions. (Like /comments) It's nice to see someone talking about Cebu from an on the ground standpoint. Chad was good but he's moved to Dumaguete I understand. Topic ideas. Logistics and Cebu Traffic :), Province travel how far out it too far?, How easy is it to get to Bohol, Dumaguete, Boracay, Siquijor, El Nido? What I would like is not so much what Chad does which is show great video and do a monologue/travelogue of impressions (and Philippines is super cool come here!). What would be helpful is planned X days, Y hours to go Siquijor, we left in morning/afternoon/evening took this RORO, went this place stayed in Z area which cost XYZ pesos. Type of explanations of some of the details. Watching Chad's stuff I get that you can cover 2 weeks of Cool tourist stuff from Dumaguete... but I'm like ok how did you get to Apo island Chad?

      From Cebu, you can fly to many locations like Palawan. For closer locations you can sometimes fly (Cebu Pacific, 737s) or take the SuperCat (high speed hovercraft).
      Going from Cebu to A big island like Luzon or Mindanao you can fly or take an overnight ferry.
      I would fly unless you are going with a Filipina that is familiar with the overnight ferries (it’s a little “eye opening” the first time).
      I would avoid South/Southwest Mindanao…just no good reason to go. To many other safer options.

      I recommend Eva Air. Their economy plus seats have all the leg room you will need. They also have adjustable headrests. They really take care of you on the plane. Fantastic way to get to the Philippines. They are my favorite air lines to travel with to the Philippines.

    • @justsmy5677
      @justsmy5677 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you are flying economy and you have a long flight, consider stopping somewhere to break up the flight or stay a day or two and see something in a place like Inchon/Seoul, Korea or Hong Kong.
      Eva Air is pretty good, you will most likely connect through Taiwan.
      Some people get a cheaper ticket to Korea, then fly on to the Philippines on Air Asia or Cebu Pacific, both good options.
      Stopping somewhere and switching airlines (going through immigration and customs) is a hassle, unless you are going to stop for a few days to check out the connecting city.
      There are now several discount business class airlines/flights that you may want to consider, depending on how much you want to spend.
      The line to get a taxi at the Manila airport long (hours sometimes) hot and a hassle. It’s hard to get a Grab at the airport if you don’t have the app set up on your phone yet (and harder to do from outside Philippines).
      I googled car transport services and got a car to meet me at the airport for a reasonable price. They were professional, texted confirmation, the driver texted me his exact location and was waiting when I walked out of airport. He loaded my bag in the car and took me straight to the hotel. I was familiar with the roads and also followed along on Google maps on phone to make sure he was not taking me for a ride. But price was fixed, so no reason to take the long way.
      If you know any Filipinos and can buy a couple thousand pesos to have in your pocket before you land, that’s a good idea. I would avoid using an ATM at the airport.
      Cheers!

      @Life_In_The_Philippines When collecting social security, always keep a U.S. address whether that's with a family member or a friend. That way you will not get that "proof of life" letter on social security every year. Many expats have been cut off from their SS because they might've received that letter late in the Philippines. Britt American brother - found you on another youtuber channel - you seem to be a decent dude. Since you now live "IN" the Philippines you are poised to create a pretty good channel there. You could show daily life there - the good, the bad, the ugly. I would recommend getting a good 4K camera etc such as latest gopro, etc. or better (pro setup). When you film think 'movie' - slowww and steady pans etc. - good mic, etc. Every time you film your travels, think you're filming a movie - movie quality. Thanks for the info of this vid - would recommend you tell the hard facts of living there. Lots of Pros, but also communicate the Cons. For example - there are only 2 places in the world that do not grant a divorce. The Philippines and Vatican City. So if you get married, you better be ready for a rough time if it ever goes sideways. Those sorts of topics, etc. But yes, on the positive notes, plural, there would seem to me a TON of FUN you could film on the different areas you check out. I have a completely different situation but may go over there one day sooner than later - and yes, have thought about the Philippines as a retirement possibility. Stay happy. Stay healthy. Happy New Year. All the best !

      I vouch for this. I'd get wireless mic first just because it will eliminate some of that hollowness you get filming in a room from the camera mic. It'll make you so much clearer, especially when you start shooting footage outside. Learn to edit so you can insert footage over what you're talking about. TH-cam is a visual medium yet it amazes me how people lose sight of that. You are trying to captivate an audience just like any other medium. You'll need to invest in some fundamentals, education and story ideas to do that successfully. Good luck I hope you do well.
