- I've been using the Maurten gel 100 and CAF 100 gel for the past few months in a marathon buildup, including race day. The Maurten gels worked great for me and I wanted to share my review with you and some of the benefits of using Maurten gels.

Maurten definitely stands out with some of their producs. One might like it or not, but both the isotonic and gels are quite distinguishable and worth trying. The best part about both the gels and isotonic is that it simply delivers more carb per weight you carry, similar to SIS Beta Fuel. Which is especially important if you need to carry your food yourself all the way. The gels also have a very mild and barely sweet taste, which is cool if you're going to eat many of them. Now the problem with the isotonic, is that it's really hard to mix, and even they mention that it might not work well with e.g. heavy water. You definitely want a shaker to do it. As for the price, there are far cheaper in Europe, at similar level as the other manufacturers
Definitely easier to get these gels down, and keep them down, on ultras. I consumed more than 20 of them in a 100-miler and, because they aren’t flavored, you can just wash them right down. I never use caffeinated gels as there’s plenty of adrenaline in racing ;-) Thanks for your reviews. I’m loving my Norda 001s. Best long-haul trail shoe anywhere. Go Canada!

What is your fast marathon strategy whit Maurten? How much do you take ? Did you dring sport drink whit them?

Ciao, per le mie maratone ho sempre usato i gel di un'altra nota marca. Ora vorrei provare i prodotti Maurten. Ho letto che per una maratona consigliano di prendere il mix 320 il giorno prima. Il mix 160 la mattina della gara e poi gli energy gel 100 durante la gara. Una domanda: Il mix 320 va preso il giorno prima durante la giornata come se fosse una normale bibita indipendentemente dai pasti? Grazie

I never really got into the gel thing..I found that anything in my system other than water or maybe a banana was not gonna work out well..I am gonna experiment some more cos I my stomach really was complaining in one race and I grab a big pretzel rod and nibbling on that made things better..not enough to start the digestive process,which diverts blood to stomach, but takes the harshness off from hunger..anything like Gatorade or sports drink and I can immediately feel my energy/speed drop..just plain water and little bites at a time 0f something solid doesn't seem to cause issues..the couple of times I tried in the past I immediately regretted a gel or sports drink and it took quite awhile for things to be back on track..years ok I used grapes as a snack on long runs in hot weather but never tried them during a race..
GI inflammation is likely why. Some people’s stomachs respond poorly when the cns is taxed

Regarding taste, texture, impact, stomach - I found that maurten gels are by far the best.
Ridiculous prices, only use when it is absolutely necessary
