I really enjoyed hearing this story. Kudos to Billie for being a Van Halen fan and understanding the contributions and incredible influence Eddie had on so many musicians.
Cool to know that Billie and I can say that both our first concerts were Van Halen since I saw them back in 2012 when I was 13 (and around the same age as well), Eddie was also one of my first major influences so this was a really interesting story as well
That's cool, I wish Billie Joe Armstrong still reminded me of my great aunt. He stopped wearing mascara recently, so now the uncanny resemblance is gone.
He was. There’s a scene when he’s paying a tribute to his guitar hero and electronics inventor Les Paul and they share a touching moment on stage. A passionate Aquarian
I hated Van Halen for a while because I struggled to play some of their easier music. Later, I discovered that Eddie would have particular tuned guitar for certain songs. And that blew my mind. I think I have every album on cd and some on LP even though I don't own a record player anymore.
I can relate. I was hanging out with Ed and the boys in '83 if I remember correctly, we were on the moon having beers and Ed pulls out the strat and starts jamming away because sound actually DOES travel in space, and he looks at me and he is just bawling, and he says "Brother, you have been my biggest influence! Because of you I picked up a guitar and because of you only. Now let's all get in that rocket ship and go home and ROCK THAT SHIT!!" That's Edward for you. I love him and miss him.
A lot of people think Van Halen is all about the technique and the shredding ,it's not, you can take the whole Van Halen discography, edit out all the solos, and they're still going to be great songs.
Well he did explain that he (Billy) was more focused on Eddies songwriting than on his shredding. Or maybe Eddie had just listened to Good Riddance and watched Waiting to Exhale, i dont really know

@@itcowboy2 Kid? Billie Joe is over 50. He's in one of the biggest rock bands in the world. If anyone's going to have had the opportunity to meet Eddie back stage it's him plus it's a common fact that Eddie was a really super kind and VERY emotional person.
Eddie is so sensitive and emotional with the music. Thats make such incredible music, just playing with your heart 🥹🥹
Much respect Van Halen will always be my favorite band ever
The original line up not Van Hagar
@richardwarfordjr.5622, both I sez.
Really? Favorite? For nostalgic reasons?

Amen!
For those confused by the title...listen at 1:44 Billie starts talking about Eddie crying when they met in Kansas City.

BRO SAME at AA center in Texas
I met Eddie and shook his hand, I'm 6.3 and his hand drawfed mine. I could not believe how big those mitts were😅.
I used to sell guitars to Billie and we talked Van Halen a couple times. This was back in the 90's.
Beautiful story. The love of music transcends
What Billy is saying sounds accurate. EVH was going through a rough emotional time especially during those years.
What a great segment. I saw Van Halen in Chicago during that tour and it was awesome! Kool & The Gang actually opened up for them too.
What a cool lineup!
Kool & The Gang are amazing as well!
lmaooo love the 80s
Same here, Chicago. Kool and the gang were an amazingly good fit! 🙂
YES!!! Now THAT'S a GREAT lineup!!!!
This is the first time I see Billy being likeable. Good to see, I dig his music.
Eddie was is and will always be the king !!
He was the next major innovator of the guitar since Hendrix. Both were geniuses that were gone way too soon.
And my first ❤!
Wow, what a great freaking story Billie, thank you so much for telling that!
Love a great Eddie story!! 💪🏻
Billie Joe reminds me of my great aunt.
What is so great about her?
Is your great aunt’s name Billie Joe too?
@@psychoof78 no, she just an elderly lady that resembles Billie Joe.
She met Van Halen?
That's cool, I wish Billie Joe Armstrong still reminded me of my great aunt. He stopped wearing mascara recently, so now the uncanny resemblance is gone.
That’s a great story. Thanks for sharing that.
Not a Billy Joe fan, but appreciate his respect for my hero. RIP EVH
Billy Corgan was also obsessed with Van Halen when he was a teenager and practiced their songs on guitar
Great story teller 🙌🏽✊🏽💯
Great story. Billie rocks. Eddie rocked!
WOW! That's an amazing story! I didn't know Eddie was so emotional.

It didn’t happen
@@adrianpoesiat That’s a bit different than talking to Billie Joe Armstrong.
@@davidratcliffe1
And you know this how? Troll.
@@adrianpoesiat He was a passionate person. His birthdate had nothing to do with it.
what a beautiful story
Even though both bands are different styles of Rock, I love them both!!
I saw that same reunion tour. Kool n the Gang opened. Fantastic night of music.
I saw Van Halen on that tour as well in Detroit at the Palace of Auburn hills. Thoroughly enjoyed it
Billie "Benjamin Button" Armstrong. I shall say no more. ❤🎸
Promise?

that was such a great time, I remember that
no way bro, i was there too, if you saw that alien in the distance that was me
I was there.
What an incredible story. 😦
Oh my god what an incredible story
You spelled 'bullshit' wrong.

so he just met him then two minutes later eddie starts crying and says "you're the only one that understands me"? makes no sense
😂 Indeed it does not. I guess we can ask Eddie oh wait
I mean if Eddie was non sober than it might make sense
I think Eddie had been drinking.
Well he did explain that he (Billy) was more focused on Eddies songwriting than on his shredding. Or maybe Eddie had just listened to Good Riddance and watched Waiting to Exhale, i dont really know
"Do you want to tune to me... or do you want me to tune to you...?"
Wow... those words
Great story Billy! I saw them in Dallas TX and it was a phenomenal show too!
Howard does the best interviews.

And then, Jimi Hendrix walked in and started crying too
Exactly 🙄
All the while Jeff Beck was sitting in the corner crocheting
@@davidratcliffe1 🤣👍
😝😝😝
Chuck norris started crying too
‘eh..? I’m sure that story gets better and better every time he tells it
Eventually Eddie will have cooked him breakfast. 🤭
Love this story.... Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
Amazing story ….
The Midwest is the heart of rock’n’roll? Someone call Huey!
These are great interviews.
wonderful tribute.
The first two albums had great original songs and renditions of classics.
True... and many of other albums after those two as well!
EVH was f'd up on that first reunion tour. Probably said that to everyone, lol
Probably thought he was talking to Valerie.
My 2 absolute favorites
i think that should have been a private moment. VH was my first concert too tho. It was Diver Down
It was. Between Billie and his imagination.
Love this!!
What a wonderful story 🥲🤘🏻 Van Halen means everything to me 🤍🚬💥🎸🎙🥁
I wasn't expecting to laugh loudly during this interview
why would you laugh?
Because it was total bullshit....@@rhinohoudini3320
whatever you say 🥰🙏
That’s a a great story
Sorry about the title boff.
The title is accurate!

YUP. This kid is full of it.
I doubt that - if it didn't happen, Wolfgang would call him out.

Awesome Story. Awesome bands.
My brother was the pilot on that charter flight.
Amaaaaaazing story! The best meets the best!
Oh yes! Eddie was so overwhelmed, he started crying! Ha!!!
That was a great piece!

That’s awesome
Pics or it didnt happen Billy J! 😂
Why would he lie?
I saw the pics… it happened.
I thought you were renouncing your American citizenship billy joe?
🤣🤣🤣
I took a picture of my crying at a Van Halen concert in '86....
That's funny that they didn't tune using a tuner. Imagine they happen to be tuned up a full step and Diamond Dave has to struggle through it!
Ed knew Dave was just talking at this point of his career.
I’m calling bullshit along with everyone else with a brain
I was at that Kansas City show!!!
Good story, very cool.
2:34 "Do you want to tune to me, or do you want me to tune to you?"
No electronic tuner; mind blown.
Eddie was in a dark place and still using
I want whatever Eddie was on 😆
100%
Me toooooo... 😅😅😅
He was an emotional person. There's nothing wrong with being emotional. It's why his music inspires so many emotions within others.
Can’t see it being BS, how embarrassing if Wolf called him out.
You didn't note the part where Wolfie came in AFTER the heart-to-heart crying bit.
Great 🎵
what a amazing experience 👍🏻
Beautiful story!!! 🥹❤❤💯
Does Billie age? One of the best!

2007/2008
