    i'm 16 and just got my first job as a kennel assistant at a local animal hospital and i am so so excited!! it's always been my dream to be a veterinarian and i am head over heels that i get to finally work with animals, thanks for sharing your work because it gives me a better idea of what to expect. my job description is mostly cleaning surgical supplies and doing laundry and maybe cleaning kennels but eventually i'll start working with animals and i'm just so excited.

    I have a question. How much did they make you clean?

    • @mooltz
      @mooltz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's mostly cleaning, then feeding and walks. But the majority is cleaning. Especially if it's in a clinic or hospital, that's the most important thing. There are so many diseases that can spread, so it's not like your cleaning poop because it smells, its because things have to be sanitary. Sooo worth it!!

    Do vets/kennels usually separate the unspayed and unnuetered dogs separate? I have a dog who recently went to a few vet visits and never even thought to ask which I know is stupid 😓

    • @uniquelyangie
      @uniquelyangie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adriana every single dog is kenneled separately! We offer boarding but we aren’t a boarding facility so we don’t allow any of the animals to interact or play together. Only because so many animals come in our hospital with different diseases/ problems! So if you’re boarding your animal in a hospital you should be fine!

      @@uniquelyangie great, thank you! This really helped ease my anxiety. I'm definitely going to call tomorrow morning and double check but I have been searching alllll over the internet trying to find out. I figured vets/animal hospitals have some sort of regulations for that. I've never had an unspayed dog before and will definitely get that done as sooooooon as possible. She's currently undergoing heartworm disease treatment so next two treatments im asking how soon that will be possible. Thank you again!!!!!

    • @uniquelyangie
      @uniquelyangie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I went to my local animal hospital and asked for an application. It just depends on the area where it’s online or not but you could always call and ask if their applications are online or in paper format.

    Aside from this, do you go to college? I want to work as a kennel attendant but not sure if I will be able to manage school and this job. Any advice ?

    • @uniquelyangie
      @uniquelyangie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Erika Perez hey Erika! Yes I do go to college! And you can absolutely make work as a kennel tech whilst being in school. I work about 60 hours a week and am a full time student so at times it does get challenging. I worked out a schedule with my manager to request off on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s when I have school and I’m scheduled to work the rest of the week and Monday (sometimes even weekends). I do most of my studying on my school days and when I get home from work. I recently just uploaded a what’s in my backpack video on my TH-cam channel with a few tricks I use to make sure I’m getting all of my assignments done. It’s just a matter of time management and discipline! I would say definitely work out a schedule that’s best for you even if you have to bump down to part time!

    I loved your video! Do you work full time? How are your hours? I just got a job as a kennel tech and I’m a little worried about having the energy to be able to things on my free time. Is this job draining?

    • @uniquelyangie
      @uniquelyangie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I’m not even gonna lie I work 11 hour days with the exception of split shifts sometimes (meaning I’d go in at 7:30-12:30 and then come back at 3:30-6:00). A full day for me is 7:30-6:00 . It is draining. It’s a lot of cleaning, maintenance and caring for the animals so it’ll be a little tough and a lot of getting used to. It’s definitely worth it though! Because it’s not really boring there’s different dogs coming in every day with different personalities. I do two days off a week (if I’m lucky lol) so there’s time for free time and self care days.

    • @caitlinklein9301
      @caitlinklein9301 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      uniquelyangie hey girl, thank you for replying! So today was my 3rd day, and I love it don’t get me wrong but the staff expects me to know everything right away and do it fast. I’m fine with that- eventually even in just 1 more week! But they know I’ve NEVER done this before, I don’t know what I’m doing, today was a veryy busy day because they do walk ins and discounted services. I’m not afraid of hard work and I do love it already but the head technician girl keep saying “you can quit if you want, you can quit” and it just felt discouraging and I thought I worked very hard and did my best. I was balling at the end of my shift , and I told her how I felt that’s why she said that. I guess they are used to it. I tried to keep it together. Any advice?

    • @uniquelyangie
      @uniquelyangie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Caitlin Klein Honestly the first time I started working there it was extremely stressful! But I stuck with it and kept going. I had the same issue as well where some of the vet technicians expected soo much out of me and I was still training. You will get it! Don’t feel discouraged there will always be people out there that are hard to work with or are very frustrating. After some time I learned my ways around the hospital and just recently got promoted to vet technician a couple of weeks ago so I’m training again as well! You’ll do great girly! Stick with it! You‘ll be fine

      I recently became a kennel tech and I had no experience. It did take a while for me to finally find a job but I contacted all my local vets and emailed them I was interested in becoming a kennel tech and eventually I got a reply back for a working interview. I am working to become a veterinarian so I told them I wanted to gain experience working with animals so I’m not sure if that was plus since they knew I was motivated but hope this helps! Good luck!

      The only tip I have that I got from this and other vlogs is overthinking is your enemy, and take it one day at a time as everything can change from day to day, SPECIALLY during the weather, the animals alone are so different when it's raining or snowing compared to sunny outside, and in some cases alot harder to manage as they do get anxiety just like some people do during weather changes :)

    For everyone watching, if you’re ever in her position, please please please do better if you have a dog with parvo. This is an incredibly contagious and deadly disease that can be spread very quickly. You need to keep the animal isolated, wear gloves and an isolation gown anytime you handle them. Thoroughly disinfect the floor they walk on and anything they come in contact with, as well as your shoes if you do have them on the ground. They should not be handled casually.
