Rogatec Open-Air Museum
Set in an authentic Styrian landscape at the foot of Donačka Gora, Rogatec Open-Air Museum - the largest museum of vernacular architecture in Slovenia - preserves a range of vernacular architecture of the sub-Pannonian type, typical of the Sotla Valley area in the period from the 19th to the mid-20th century.
The core of the museum, with its original buildings, has grown over time into Slovenia’s biggest open-air museum and a cultural monument of national importance. In 1997 it was nominated for European Museum of the Year.
A rich programme of activities enables visitors to discover the cultural traditions of the people who built these buildings and enjoy their own experience of heritage.
At the same time it spoils visitors with local cuisine and offers them the opportunity to take part in experiential workshops such as baking žulika bread, a visit to a blacksmith’s forge, a music workshop (making a traditional reed flute), a herbalism workshop, a beekeeping workshop, a visit to a stonemason in his hut, and so on. By helping with various types of farm work - in virtual fashion - they learn about cultural heritage in an entertaining way with the help of state-of-the-art technology.

State-of-the-art technology allows you to discover, explore and solve puzzles as you set out on a fun journey that will show you how much time and hard work and how many different steps were needed in the past to turn grains of wheat into flour and flour into precious food - such as žulika bread. Complete all the puzzles successfully and receive a prize. This activity combines an entertaining and educational journey with plenty of exercise in the fresh air.
The smartglasses are suitable for adults and for children aged 7 and up
and are available in fine weather when temperatures are between 10°C and 32°C.
