At least you get to see unique Puyo Pop animations unlike in the later games. When you're playing as Carbuncle, bursting Puyo makes mini-Carbuncles appear, which is a nice touch.
It sucks that this would be one of the games in Puyo Puyo to have special Puyo Puyo popping animations like Schezo slices the Puyo's in half, Zohdaimaoh stomps them and Witch pops Puyos into stars. I think the other Puyo game to have special Puyo Puyo popping animations is Puyo Puyon or better referred to as Puyo Puyo 4
Modern puyo games have a special puyo popping animation, but it only applies to the sonic skin, where rings fly out of them (Sonic himself doesn’t have a special animation though)
It's sad but it makes sense in the modern format since they also include multiple different skins for the puyos(and Tetraminos when applicable) and making character-specific popping animations for each character on each skin would be way too much work for not that much gain. If they ever go back to having one style of Puyo in a game though, it needs to come back.
One thing i love sun over all of the entries is how the animations smoothly transitions from one to another

I'll never understand why Compile decided to put the animations BEHIND the puyo, meaning you can't see them half the time.
Probably since some chain animations keep going after your next piece is in play, which can obscure your vision.

I'm also hearing some voices from GBA's Minna de Puyo Puyo. Too bad Nohoho and Satan's voices are different than the ones from Sun.
