27 years later and Merton has barely changed
I really enjoyed and miss the Angus Deayton era, he was a brilliant host. The show was never quite the same after he was "retired"
Agreed. I found Merton's attitude towards him rather sanctimonious , I went right off him .

The show could have never carried on with Angus continually being shut down by guests.
It went the way it had to. Unfortunately, of course.
I remember that actor line. Richard Wilson was always a great guest.

Apart from the cocaine/hooker 'incident' of 2002, Angus Deayton was the best presenter of this show. Some of the hosts did far worse than Angus....Boris Johnson, for example.
Bring back Angus, no one has done it better

@@adamfull3181 That's the first time I've come across the notion that "landslide" is only for when one party ousts a different party.
Those graphics on the side of the screen are seriously ugly and it makes the image difficult to focus on. Just leave black bars on the sides - audiences generally understand that old TV footage is shot 4:3 anyway. Plus, it makes the footage look more authentic.
People can be really funny about 'black bars' for some reason. This is at least better than stretching or cropping, or even that weird thing where they have the edges being just blurred parts of the main footage.
@@Yetaxa I'm gonna be honest - The blurring thing infuriates me but this is even worse. It's cultural vandalism! Old footage deserves to be shown as it was intended.
You can still upload in 4:3 to TH-cam. So it's up to the user how to watch it.
Angus was the best. It was never right after that.

@KitchenSinkSoup Some people simply can't _not_ give their opinion, as if anyone asked. Like the rest of us are here waiting and _hoping_ someone will come along and tell us that we don't even know what is funny
It's very of its time - while not very funny, this is miles better than it is now
