Hey everyone, I wanted to update you all on the current situation regarding Dr. Pen microneedling devices and cartridges. After looking into this further, I found some important information you should know: I just found out today that the FDA is conducting a post-market review of microneedling devices like Dr. Pen. I had no idea about the FDA's review when I made this video. According to a disclaimer on the Us Dr Pen site, they say that these products, including the cartridges, are now intended for use by licensed healthcare professionals for treating things like acne scars. Nano cartridges, which are designed for skin exfoliation and cosmetic use, are still available for general consumer use. I only discovered this when on this website: us.drpen.co/products/dr-pen-m8s-microneedling-pen (look right below the "add to cart" button). I wanted to let you know that the availability of these products on popular platforms is likely to change very soon. Amazon and Aliexpress have already removed them, and I’m assuming Temu will do the same thing very soon. I am not sure if they can restrict the countries they sell to. If so, I assume they will restrict the sale of the items to those in the U.S. Prior to discovering this, I had reached out to numerous manufacturers. When I was inquiring with a couple of them through Alibaba, I also got a notification that I could not request sample products of their microneedling devices because they are listed as restricted/prohibited. I have full updates available on my post here: lifeanddiy.com/is-at-home-microneedling-being-banned-latest-on-the-fda-review-options/ - full details, photos, related documents. Check it out if you want to know what's going on and feel free to leave a comment there or on reddit to chat. I also posted about it on Reddit here: www.reddit.com/user/LifeandDiy/comments/1fnm7tj/is_microneedling_being_banned_for_athome_use_fda/.
I bought Kora Beauticals pen and needles directly from their UK website. I thought its more trustworthy than Amazon. It comes with guarantee, hard case, 3 needles included. And i ordered extra box of needle cartridges to justify shipping costs. I'm happy with a pen. It has 6 speeds and good weight to it. I think that helps with control. Just an option to people who are hesitant to buy from Temu.
Just to add if you buy from the UK Dr Pen website they have offers all the time. They send me codes every month. They also offered to send me 10 cartridges for free in exchange for a review

I'm glad you actually recommend temu. I honestly don't know why some people are sooo against it. most of the items I got from temu were great! I actually found they have some really innovative stuff there. yes occasionally I got something I didn't like but I didn't care - it was so cheap. the only advantage amazon has is the absolute convenience of not needing to package the goods yourself when returning. Thank you! I agree. :) I have purchased so many great things from Temu. Many people may not know that Amazon sellers are often selling the same products as what's on Temu, but for way more money. Temu has much more of a variety of unique items too. :) I wish their packaging was a bit better but other than that, I've had no issues. I did try to return a couple items and instead Temu just gave me my money back and told me to keep the stuff. Surprisingly great!
@@LifeDIY thanks for your prompt response! it's rare to come across someone who has more than 50k subscribers and responded so quickly! and I like your video a lot so I just subscribed. I will be purchasing some microneedling pen from temu and start doing this at home! happy holidays :)
Hi! Have you seen the SORA Micro needling pen? I got mine from Walmart and I’ve used it and it seems to do what it’s supposed to do, including the skin healing process. Could you please look into this as an alternative to the super expensive pens you can buy? It’s a good price for a seemingly good pen. Thank you! ☺️
I just bought one on temu for 24 dollars a few weeks back and its perfect!! There are soo many cartridges available there for literally 2 and 3 dollars for packs of 5 and 10 and beyond
I’ve been following you for a while and i see you take enough precaution to where I’m not really worried. (I learned a ton of TCA knowledge from you) I also loooooove Temu/Shein too. I just wanted to mention *just in case* that a lot of people have had infections occur from different products from those sites. (Also, I never followed up with looking more into those cases, so take this with a grain of salt) And I’m not even against purchasing any device from there, I’m just saying to take the extra step in checking what you buy is sterile and sanitized and then maybe even take the extra step once you receive it to re-sanitize the devices yourself? I would at least. I’ve seen where people have gotten infections from unsanitary rollers/pins and it is **not** pretty. But, I didn’t even know they sold these. Thanks for sharing! I’ve been looking into firoblasting a lot lately, so I’ll check on there for that too. I appreciate all you share.
Good point! Thanks so much for sharing this. I agree with you and in addition to what you said, I would also not buy any skincare or makeup from these sites, personally. The crazy thing is that so many of the exact same products are commonly sold on Amazon, so I know people are already buying and using them. But, I'd rather be safe with that kind of thing. I think that's a good idea to sanitize the cartridge before using it. People should be super careful if they decide to do this at home.

In the USA. And, thanks for sharing this! I'll have to look into this more to see where Amazon is still selling it. That's great if you still have options there.
I was freaking out where to by new needles from for the dr pen a6 considering I’ve always bought them off Amazon ! I finally found some on Walmart online site and got 10 12 length needle for 12 dollars just used them for the first time so far so Good!
I am so nervous to order cartridges on temu or anywhere else. Buying the pen is one thing, but the needles are different since that's the part that is going into you skin. I'm worried I'll be buying needles that are made with bad material. Have you actually tried the temu needles to see if they're the same as the ones that were on Amazon?
I totally understand. I am investigating this now. One commenter mentioned on here that she found a manufacturer of the products. They appear to be legitimate manufacturers, and so far from my research, they seem to be the oldest/most popular/largest manufacturer of Dr. Pens. You can read more about them here: gzekai.en.alibaba.com/?spm=a2700.galleryofferlist.wending_right.3.1b8513a0DyN7W6. It does appear that there are other manufacturers and some of them mainly manufacture the pens while others focus on the cartridges. But, so far it appears this is the main manufacturer. So I am hoping to find out where we can buy cartridges made by them. Many of these companies used to sell on Aliexpress but it looks like they no longer carry the pens and cartridges. I've reached out to the main manufacturer to get more info and I want to buy a sample Dr. Pen and cartridges from them. And, I am trying to find out if they also sell on other sites or if they have resellers on Temu or somewhere else. I will post an update on my website when I hear back. I can also do a pinned comment here when I get any helpful info. So far, all the needle cartridges I have purchased in the past (some were sent to me from a Dr. Pen website, but the site is no longer online) and some were from Amazon. They are all packaged in the exact same way and they all look like they came from the same manufacturer. The manufacturer I mentioend does sell sell some products on Alibaba, but for cartridges - you have to have a minimum order of 100. Hopefully I'll hear back from the company soon.
I will keep you posted. I have been researching this all day. I just had a closer look at my cartridges and they appear to be fine - actual individual needles. I did find & contact one of the main manufacturers and several others who are manufacturing and/or reselling. And, I also tried to get additional information and I think at least one of my messages went through on Alibaba. I put in a product request through Alibaba and then I was emailed a denial notification - stating: The product you've requested was found to be a 'Prohibited Product' and therefore breaches our Product Listing Policy. So, now it seems they are unable to ship to the U.S., at least through Alibaba. Now that Amazon has removed the products and Aliexpress has, I am assuming Temu is next. Currently, there are a still a bunch of "Dr. Pen" websites up and running and selling. So it's an option to buy the cartridges through one of them, or through Temu. I'm still hoping to hear back from some of these companies with any more info on their resellers and if any of them are selling through these websites or Temu. I personally purchased a bunch of A6 cartridges on Temu (50 for $18) just to be stocked up, in case we can't easily buy them coming up. For some reason, the A6 pen is a bit more pricey but the cartridges are really cheap. I've never returned anything on Temu before, but I have heard they accept returns and give refunds if needed.
Ok just got an update already. I was on us.drpen.co website and found this text under a product: DISCLAIMER: Please be advised the FDA is conducting a post-market review. Dr. Pen microneedling cartridges are classified as medical prescription only (Rx-only) and are available exclusively to licensed healthcare professionals. These devices are intended for use under the supervision of a licensed medical provider for the treatment of acne scars. After placing an order, we will verify your professional license before processing the shipment. Nano cartridges are available for consumer use, designed for skin exfoliation and improving the appearance of skin. So, now we know the FDA is currently conducting a review of these products after they have already been made available on the market. I will probably need to remove this video later today. I had no idea. Pretty soon the only products available will be the nano needles.
@@LifeDIY This is exactly why I want to find a legit vendor and stock up on cartridges, I'm assuming Amazon and Ebay were first, but soon even foreign marketplaces will also stop selling cartridges to the USA. For example, on Temu UK they sell way more cartridges, while Temu USA only has a page or two of sellers, and some have mixed reviews. What gets me is I don't understand why this is happening. I've been researching trying to see if some new law was passed but I haven't found anything explicitly stating that these can only be sold to people with a license. It's all so unfair, getting microneedling done in office is such rip off, cheapest session I could find near me was $300 for ONE session! They are way over charging for what you get, if the costs weren't so high then people wouldn't be turning to at home devices.
@@LifeDIY I guess I don't get how the FDA review works, why do vendors have to stop selling these products while it's under review? Wouldn't it make more sense to sell as many as possible while under review and there is nothing explicitly banning? Either way, I have to wonder if that Rx disclaimer is legit. Sites like AllDayChemist also claim you need an Rx to buy their products but that's just for show, you don't actually need one. (Also, was my previous comment removed? I don't see it anymore)
So far, I ended up buying cartridges for my A6 (I got them on really cheap on Temu). I almost bought the M8 and that is the one I would buy if I do buy another one. I am holding off for one week though as I need to check on something. It seems that the cartridges for the M8 may be compatible with my other pen the A6S, so now I just bought cartridges. If they aren't compatible, I'll be buying the M8 on Temu. I have a full update on what's going on with the situation here! Thank you so much for this heads up on micro-needling devices! 🙂 Also, I would recommend not using the roller, because my experience with them is that they will drag, scratch and tear the surface of the skin.
The pen can give you a deeper treatment than the rollers. The rollers can give you some skin improvements and definitely have benefits, but the pen devices are capable of more pronounced changes in the skin. Here you can see the results I got from 8 treatments: th-cam.com/video/4Rk_xKWmfjc/w-d-xo.html.

Hi Holly, I’m considering taking the leap and purchasing replacement cartridges on Temu… Do you happen to know what the difference between 12 and 36 pin cartridges is? I read that 36 pin cartridges are typically used for larger areas, and are more gentle. Are they both effective for collagen production? That’s my primary goal. Just curious what your thoughts are. Thank you 🙏
I am so happy I saw your comment (before you make any purchases) because I am writing a blog post about this right now - with lots of photos. I personally do not recommend buying any cartridges with more than 16 needles. I recently bought some higher-needle cartrdiges and regret it. I took super closeup photos of a variety of needle cartridges, and the ones that contain more than 16 needles, are thicker and bigger and there is such a huge difference between the size and thickness of the needles on those, versus a 11 or 12 pin cartridge. I am currently still writing my blog post on this - but you can see one of the photos here: lifeanddiy.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/A6_36-needle-versusM8-11pin-new.png.webp - hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions on it. I think it's safer and less painful to use the small needles. You can use any of these on your body for a treatment and most often sites will say that's what the bigger ones are for. For me though, I will still use the smaller ones on the body. I do also own the M8 24 pin cartridge and that one's needles are thicker than the 11 and 16 pin, but not too bad (not as bad as the photo I shared with you). If you check back on my website in an hour, the post will be live and you can see all the photos there.
@@Ho_Ju You're welcome! I am glad I saw your comment this morning! :) I am going to try to finish the post up earlier than I thought - probably 30 minutes. At least that way you can see closeups of a variety of these needle cartridges. Please let me know if you have more questions! I will try to help.
They haven't said anything about it, so I am not totally sure. I will do some more research on this and write about it on my website this weekend. I'll see if I can find more information.

I noticed that on Temu if you buy the cartridges for the M8, it says needle length .25. Does that mean you can't use them longer than that? There is no option to buy a longer needle
Yes, that's not really accurate. It seems that they're doing this to make it look like they're selling a lower depth product (equivalent to nano needling) but they are normal needles and the depth depends on your pen. I bought from a couple different sellers that said that and they are normal cartridges.
Have you tried Rogaine? Derma rolling or microneedling the scalp also seems to help for some people. You can search for some videos on TH-cam to see the results some people have had.
I totally understand! I almost bought it too, but I held off (but I have two pens already). I ended up buying M8 cartridges to use with my Dr. Pen A6S. I am so happy the cartridges are compatible. I ended up buying my supplies from a brand on there called Meet Me (they are actually Shenzhen Yanyi Technology company) and I believe they manufacture some pens and cartridges. I reached out to them on LinkedIn to try to get more details on what they are selling because I know a lot of people are concerned about counterfeits. I'll keep you posted with an updated video and post on my site as soon as I get more info. I also post updates on Reddit too.

I did some research about Dr Pen and found that they are produced by gzekai in China idon't know if they are the only and the original Dr Pen but that what i found. They also produce ZGTS/GTS derma rollers 192 needles i got a couple of them and they are very high quality i also bought an M8 online from china that was very good quality to.
Thank you so much for sharing this! They seem legit. They may even be the main manufacturer. They seem to have been operating the longest and have the widest range of pens. This is so helpful. I too am not sure if they are the original manufacturers, but it does look that way. I have also found some smaller manufacturers who are producing some Dr. Pens or other similar devices or just making the cartridges. But, it still seems that Guangzhou Ekai is the best to buy from, if possible. There are so many resellers all over the place. I see they do sell directly on alibaba here (but not on aliexpress): gzekai.en.alibaba.com/company_profile.html?spm=a2700.shop_index.88.80.416e1fe6tBhJ3N. I have emailed them to get more info. People really want to buy cartridges direct from the source, so I am hoping they can help with that. Thank you!!!

@LifeDIY Great that you could confirm that Ekai was the manufacturer of Dr Pen. Before i ordered my M8 i emailed them and asked if it was Ekais M8 that was sold on Ali Express but i didn't get at straight answer from them and i think that was because they sell to other companies that say that they are the original Dr Pen and Ekai is ok with that and just want to manufacture and sell as much as possible. I have also seen pens that look exactly like a Dr Pen but with another brand name on so i think they also sell white labeling pens. Troublesome with the ban of cartridges and hope it will not be permanent. But you are well stocked now with 50 cartridges, that should last you 16-17 years 🙂 I hope the ban won't come to Sweden/Europe but you never know i have 21 my self so it will last a while i also keep the used one just in case.

It looks like something has changed on Amazon and some sellers are now back to selling the pens - and nano needling cartridges only. That's what I see on the U.S. website. Amazon in other countries is allowing these pens to be sold.
Dr.Pen are junk anyway. I had two M8's break after only a few months. I will never buy another one. I have a Derminator 2 now and it has worked perfectly for over a year. The quality is night and day different.
The man who runs that company is a complete crazy. I ordered the original Derminator and Sarah Vaughtner answered my questions with speed and helpful information. I cannot say the same about what is happening now. Something has happened and it’s not good. Their website looks to be from the early days of the internet.
Wow. I just decided to pick up my pen again soon, I like using mine in the months when the days are shorter to avoid some sun. I was going to get extra cartridges...thats crazy! I'll check eBay like another commentor said. Thanks for posting!!

Hey everyone, I wanted to update you all on the current situation regarding Dr. Pen microneedling devices and cartridges. After looking into this further, I found some important information you should know:
I just found out today that the FDA is conducting a post-market review of microneedling devices like Dr.

@@LifeDIY thanks for your prompt response! it's rare to come across someone who has more than 50k subscribers and responded so quickly! and I like your video a lot so I just subscribed. I will be purchasing some microneedling pen from temu and start doing this at home! happy holidays :)
You're welcome! I've been on here a lot today. :) Thank you for subscribing and I hope you like the pen you get from Temu! Happy Holidays to you too!

Do you have an update on the microneedling pen and cartridges?
I have an ultimate A7 and was just looking for cartridges a couple weeks ago and noticed no longer on Amazon. Such a pain, the pen works fine but can’t find the cartridges 😡
Hopefully you can find some on Temu or some other site. That's such a pain.
I found my cartridges on eBay

They are still on ebay
What country is this in. I've just looked on the UK site. Still have the pens on there. Thank you for bringing this to light
In the USA. And, thanks for sharing this! I'll have to look into this more to see where Amazon is still selling it. That's great if you still have options there.
@@LifeDIY Definitely do at the moment in the UK. Let's hope it stays that way. 😊
@@CZarb-j5f Yes, I hope so!
I was freaking out where to by new needles from for the dr pen a6 considering I’ve always bought them off Amazon ! I finally found some on Walmart online site and got 10 12 length needle for 12 dollars just used them for the first time so far so
Good!
Please let us know which pen in particular you will be buying from Temu. Would love to get one!

They should make .25 to 1.00 safe for at home use.
Thank you so much for this heads up on micro-needling devices! 🙂 Also, I would recommend not using the roller, because my experience with them is that they will drag, scratch and tear the surface of the skin.
Thank you!
@@LifeDIY ❤
What does the pen does vs the roller ? Thanks.
The pen can give you a deeper treatment than the rollers. The rollers can give you some skin improvements and definitely have benefits, but the pen devices are capable of more pronounced changes in the skin. Still have it at temu
I was just searching for the brushes you used to apply the “pre” products, I loved the video I watched a few weeks ago and now it’s gone 😕
Just so you know!! 8 of your microbeedling videos in your playlist say “hidden and unavailable”?? Did you do that or did TH-cam?
I just found this out this month ‼️
@@LifeDIY You are simply amazing, thank you for all of your dedication to spreading helpful information! 💕
Why is Amazon doing this?
They haven't said anything about it, so I am not totally sure. I will do some more research on this and write about it on my website this weekend. I'll see if I can find more information.

I noticed that on Temu if you buy the cartridges for the M8, it says needle length .25. Does that mean you can't use them longer than that? There is no option to buy a longer needle
Yes, that's not really accurate. It seems that they're doing this to make it look like they're selling a lower depth product (equivalent to nano needling) but they are normal needles and the depth depends on your pen. I bought from a couple different sellers that said that and they are normal cartridges.
@@LifeDIY thank you so much for your reply!

I want to buy the M8 on Temu, but I'm not sure yet. Thank you for the video.
A question: I have some 36-pin cartridges laying around. Can I use them for my face or what are they best used for?
Yes, some people do use them on their face, although they 're more commonly used on the body to treat larger areas.

@LifeDIY
Great that you could confirm that Ekai was the manufacturer of Dr Pen.
But you are well stocked now with 50 cartridges, that should last you 16-17 years 🙂
I hope the ban won't come to Sweden/Europe but you never know i have 21 my self so it will last a while i also keep the used one just in case.
