    Simple Living Alaska is one of my top shows, also. Your dinner table arrangement brought back a sweet memory from my childhood almost 65 years ago. A school friend invited me to eat supper with them and our 'job' before supper was to collect a bouquet from the yard. We went anywhere we saw a pretty flower and cut then brought inside to put into a vase and decorate the table. I was always living in rental houses and missed my Mom's garden so much so really enjoyed this 'job'. I never forgot how sweet it was to feel special in having a fresh flower arrangement - for no other reason than I was invited to dine with them. Still today I remember the magic feeling that those flowers brought to me and I know your kids will always remember, how they were special enough for fresh flowers, too.

      Strange how something simple can bring people into your life. A young girl 64 years ago walked past our house daily on her way to school and would slow down to admire my mothers lace living room curtains. How she loved them. We ended up marrying brothers, had children and have a lifetime of memories. We are now 75. God had a plan! 😊

      @@miephoex Yes He has a plan for us and gives us gifts to help along - if we only listen and follow, His plans are usually very good for us and so rewarding when shared. Your memories have a great happy-ever-after! Thank you for sharing a story that began with her admiration of beauty and ending with a beautiful life.

      Used to be mine as well I followed them from the very beginning but then when they moved up in the North and I saw them burn so much plastic in Burn barrels sigh I haven't been watching them since...
      which is a shame as they are really lovely people

    I can sympathize with the raspberry issue. In my last garden I planted them at level and had runners all over the place. When I designed the garden at the new house, however, I put them in 12” tall raised beds and have had not a single runner escape in 3 years but the beds are full and plentiful. Disclaimer - the same can NOT be said of blackberries. Ask me how I know…😆 if you don’t want to do raised beds I would imagine putting some 12” landscape barrier / edging along the edge of the berry space would provide the same benefit of containment.

    Kelsey, your bouquet on the table was beautiful! 🩷 Like you, until recently, I didn’t often cut flowers and bring them inside. However, the last couple of years I’ve done more of it and it does bring such joy to my heart. I have a few peonies (my favorite), roses and hydrangeas that I love to bring in. Last year I started other cut flower faves by seed which was fun too so a few more this year were started. I’ve tried drying the hydrangeas but they never keep their color. I’ve used multiple drying techniques too. I think I read once that keeping the stems long makes it harder to keep the color. Anyway, beautifully done friend, the bouquet is stunning.
    Have a wonderful weekend. 🤗

    Lovely video. I am opposite of you, I would have fresh flowers in every room. They make my heart happy just looking at them. I can't be outside very long so I have something to enjoy inside.

    Have a blessed week and good luck with the potty training. ❤

    I also watch "Simple living Alaska" and my husband and I just finished the third season of "Clarkson Farm"! You are correct, it's not for children, but it shows non-farmers what ridiculous hoops and red tape, farmers go through, just to try to raise their crops or animals. Along with each permit needed, comes fees for those permits. I truly don't know how farmers hold on!
    Everything you made looks delicious!

    Living off grid doesn't mean you have to live an isolated life. I'm off grid and in the woods but town is only a 15 min drive away. Granted it's a pretty small town of 2k or so people but there's a store, a DG, and nice restaurants. Big box stores are only about 35 mins away. I know not everyone is or can be this close or even want to be this close to town but it's possible.
    As for storage of your root vegetables and potatoes have you ever thought about maybe building a very well insulated shed off the shaded side of the house? I mean you would have to make sure that it doesn't freeze during the winter (which would be possible) and might work through summer as well. Idk just trying to think outside the box.

    • @seedandsparrowhomestead
      @seedandsparrowhomestead  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      oh I know! I was just referring to those youtubers lifestyle. They are pretty isolated. I don't know if I could ever live that far out from people and a bigger town.
      I'll have to talk to my hubby about the shed idea, its a possibility!
      Thanks so much for stopping by! Blessings :)

    I have been following Simple Living Alaska for some time, great channel. My husband and I are building an off grid home in preparation for retirement. Ours is 40 miles from any road. I am born and raised in Alaska. Even though we will be remote there is a bit of a community. Most of it is weekend community, but there are a few full timers and as we age probably more will follow. Simple Living shares some great information! I found your channel as I used to be married to someone from your general area. I love all that you share to. Wonderful recipes and gardening, my cup of tea!
