You can tell she went through shit because she's sorta smiling and laughing; as if it were another layer of skin. It's her reality. That's why she's smiling
Her sister died and that obviously really affected her :( I have so much respect that she's able to not only be so honest in her lyrics, but also in the interviews. I would find that really hard
Ohhh yeah. I can relate to that. I've laughed while saying tragic things like that too...heh..kind of like a defense mechanism. Laugh when what you really need to do is cry...
I think also what she means by "Lost Her Youth" was that she had to deal with something like death as a young child which made her grow-up and become more mature for her age back then.
IzzyThe GothOtaku just recentky in 2018 was another death and i respect her and support her so much. she deserves it. especially with all the “drama” (ben moody leaving in middle of tour and her being the inky ine in control of the band stressing out and everything) i love her. i love her voice. i admire her hard work. i just freaking appreciate her so much
She smiles when she becomes uncomfortable and laughs too... it's a strange habit that I have as well... when something happens that makes me too uncomfortable, like if someone asks me a painful question or something horrible happens, I start smiling and laughing. I can't help it, it's a reaction.
I feel proud of you Amy .. after all you've been through you're still standing with your head high and willing to go on and not let anyone stop you. I Love you and your success! I love Evanescence!!
I can really feel what Amy went through I feel really sorry for her. She always pretended like she was happy when she wasn't. She experienced herself through her music, and anyone who haven't noticed that is dumb.
Actually the dumb thing is to believe you discovered a secret or something by stating an artist "experienced herself through her music". They all do that.
@@Whoopdido777 im not 100% sure but i think her relationship with ben (around 2002?) was abusive, also in 2004-2005 she was in a relationship with the lead singer of Seether and im pretty sure he was an alcoholic at the time (that's what Call Me When You're Sober is about)
yes but more importantly we are very lucky she gives to this world. her vocals have something that stands out from allot of other vocals in my opinion. i remember when i first heard her singing i was blown away by the depth. i cant explain but when you really listen you can sense something its like you connect and understand that this isnt just another voice she means and goes deeply trough the experience. for fallen songs when i relisten them for nostalgia when i really listen to vocals and sit calmly i feel connection. it comes from heart and soul and experience. and i think that separates good art from amazing art. her gift surely lives on and on. i can listen again her songs and its like time hasnt passed. for great music dont matter what year it is.
............i have never felt more understood in my entire life. I have literally spoken the exact words at 00:26-00:28. my heart just dropped (but in a good way) when i heard her say that. I just feel so free knowing that someone else has felt exactly the same way i have.
She basically learned to grow up and deal with things the hard way. I, unfortunately, was forced to the military at a young age, and feel the same as she. RIP Amy Lee's youth.
She can smile because she uses the art of music the right way. As an outlet, as a hobby, and as something you just love to do. She expresses her deepest inner-most feelings to us, and she gets all her hurt out. She has such passion for what she does. And all of this allows her to reflect and work through her hardships. Amy is an amazing person, and will continue to be amazing for a very long time.
As Amy said, she was forced to grow up too young and I think that Evanescence is brilliant for her just for the simple fact that that has happened to her and that her unnecessary feelings have become beautiful pieces of music must be a great accomplishment for her and youth because even things like that deserve a happy ending :)
I think some people would love to see her crying istead of smiling during the interview. Especially the interviwer. If she can hand on it smiling, it's really much better. Amy Lee, you're the best and no one can deny.
There is nothing wrong with growing up fast! It makes you a smarter, better, and stronger as an adult! Also, as a musician, i gives her more to write about!
I never lost my sibling or anything like that, but I can asscociate with what she's saying. I've always felt quite a bit older than my age, and people often tell me I look/act older. I don't want to sound big-headed, but when I'm around most 16 year olds I just think "man you're so immature, just grow up!" lol ... I love expressing myself through music, it's such a beautiful and effective way of releasing negative feelings, and it's helped me get over very difficult things.
well, i have said exactly the same thing!this is why Amy is so important to me..she makes me feel better when i hear her songs..she expresses all of her pain and fear in her songs..
its more of a nervous smile, when i talk about tragic things i realize how much stronger ive become by realizing that now i can smile and laugh when i talk about them. other ppl usually just look at me like im crazy. when i have nothing else i use the pain to just push me on. life is just a journey, to where...we'll know when we get there.
You guys shouldn't judge, maybe she's just being dramatic OR MAYBE she went through shit that she prefers to keep private and not talk about. You can't just presume to know what someone's life has been like based on the little BS info you get from the media.
Wow. Excuse me? Really? Is Amy not a human??? Just because she is rich and famous does not mean she does not have personal issues too!!! Gosh, just wow... How could you say that??!
i lost my fiance a year and a half ago to an overdose. i know its different than a sister but i do know what pain feels like and i know how sometimes its hard to get out from under. you feel somedays like no one in the world could ever hurt as much as you do and no one understands your pain. i promise there are people who understand and people who care about how youre feeling. im sorry you have to go thorugh this and i know its still really really damn hard. know youre not alone though, theres..

Well, Amy is so damn talented, that if theres really anyone who dont think she wasnt born to not only sing way better than most any other female rocker, but look great too on top of having a sick band ...well, hasn't seen her live, and when you do...youll see.
You don`t really know Evanescence at all. They`re awesome live and they have excellent songs, Amy Lee has the vocals of an opera singer you know & she`s a soprano singer. she won best vocalist at the revolver golden gods awards in 2012. they are a very talented Rock Band and are praised just as much as classic Talented bands such as Kiss, Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin or Anthrax.
@deathtothemushroom i gotta say too, its very likely that her music has saved lives. to say that it hasnt would mean that no other songs have ever saved lives. i have a song i listen to for every mood im in and believe it or not alot of people find inspiration and hope in depressing songs. its a way to connect and put things in perspective. shes a better role model than a number of musical artists.
In this short 42 seconds video I have been given great insight to Amy... what she is holding inside her is... a lot of pain.... :ll I've always known but seeing this makes it so blunt.
@EmilyHubbard139 I'm not sure about Like you,but the first song she wrote about her dead sister was Hello. She has said she can never sing that live, because she will have a nervous breakdown. It is a very personal song to her.
I was going to write a comment saying pretty much what you said. I am this way aswell, I smile when I am sad.... It's hard to be vulnerable and have people see that. Amy Lee allready show's what's trully inside of her when she sings, what more do people want, really?
Anyone who has experienced a tragedy as a young child will tell you that it does cause you to age(mentally) very quickly and that's not something you ever loose. She can smile about it because she's had years to accept it. I'm 19, I know I'm highly likely to die in my 30's(heart disease), I've faced death three times, I've been abused, raped, and mocked. My mother abused me for 16 years. I never was a child, but I can openly say all this because I've lived for so long with this as my reality.
I was just saying what a lot have people have said in the past. When I thought about it, it all kinda fell into place and made sense. And I only based my opinion in that comment of mine off of what other people have said about the lyrics in that song. After those people said things about her being raped, I looked at the song in a new perspective. I then put together the song and eventually concluded that it was about something close to rape, whether it was about Amy or not. Thanks for the info(:
I know it can have multiple meanings, but I'm just kinda going along with what everybody else has said in the past.(: I'm also aware that Amy was raised in a very loving home. I guess I just didn't really take that into consideration when I was thinking about that. My bad. :P
we're all human human and vulnerable to tragedy. besides its not like she goes around flaunting her money. shes very well put together and respectable. so she doesn't deserve that kind of negativity such as what you're giving her.
I'd class them more as alternative metal than rock. Rock would be groups like Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Free, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Faces and many more I'm too tired to think of right now.
