The three legendary bird pokemon are very amazing. And Ash really is a great hero for saving the world.
Me too, Articuno is my favorite of the Legendary Bird Pokemon and was the only one not captured Lawrence III.
This movie was changed in so many ways from the Japanese version that I won't be able to list all the changes, but I'll mention some.
The biggest thing is that there was no "Chosen One" aspect in the Japanese version. Ash just had to do everything because he was a Pokémon Trainer.
Lugia, which was created specifically for this movie, was originally supposed to be depicted as a motherly figure, but was given a male voice. The head writer hated himself for not pushing harder to get a female voice for Lugia.
When the heroes free Moltres, there was originally a short scene of Tracey describing the chemical process of Pikachu's electricity turning Squirtle's water into hydrogen and oxygen, which Charizard's Flamethrower would ignite, so he yells at everyone to duck and cover just before things go boom. No idea why this was cut in the dub, but it was.
The "beast of the sea" mentioned in the prophecy is not Lugia but the ocean current, hence why it's highlighted when everything is restored.
The bad guy of the movie is called Lawrence III, as revealed in supplementary material. His Mew card was given backstory in a booklet released in Japanese ticket offices, but since that didn't make its way to international releases, the card was instead added to his dialogue.
Misty doesn't make a hypocritical statement about collecting Pokémon in the Japanese version, where she instead criticizes the used method of capturing instead.
And finally: instead of titans, the legendary birds are referred to as gods in the Japanese version. The Finnish dub actually maintains this, despite the English dub changing it.
The changes the dub made were awesome, 4kids may have missed with other series, but I'll be forever grateful for everything they did with pokemon
Interesting that Lugia was pushed by the head writer to be female since to my knowledge. Most legendaries are meant to not have a official gender to them except Mewtwo technically as they are half human, half pokemon and meant to be a clone of the head scientist's daughter.
@@lozo1006 Actually, the scientist's daughter's clone was a separate entity. But yeah. Lugia was meant to be motherly and portrayed as such, but that unfortunately didn't happen.

I remember how big and epic this movie was. WB was on a roll with animated films of the late 90’s. Batman Beyond Return of the Joker, Scooby Doo on Zombie Island, Witch’s Ghost and Alien Invaders, Pokémon movies. I loved seeing all the Pokémon of the world assemble or try to get as close as they could.
It's anniversary less than 3 months away. 👀
& I still have the movie, to this day. The DVD, VHS, the Soundtrack, & Blu-ray!

Pokemon The Movie 2000 is one of my all time favorite Pokemon films! In fact some of my favorite parts of this movie was the moments when Misty was jealous every time Ash and Melody interacted. lol
I haven't seen this since I was kid in the theater. My God.😮

@@GreatgunYuMore than likely, either The Pokemon Company, Nintendo or Shogakukan had something to do with it as they are notorious for taking down reactions related to _Pokemon_ or especially the _Pokemon_ movies for copyright reasons, hence why they’re not to many reactions to it besides Sorta Stupid and now Quirky Quota’s reactions.

Mewtwo Strikes Back!!!! And omfg!!!!! This is my FAVORITE Poke'mon movie. It's a rare find, I've been looking for...Since it came out. Chance, we were one in this. I'm actually playing gold version now on my phone. This took me back!!!! Also, remembering the 4kids theme was epic! Good fucking god we're getting old. -_-

every movie is cannon up to the 19th movie
Most of the movies are actually canon, since legendaries get mentioned in the shows like they knew them already. You just have to know which ones are canon, which ones aren’t.
There was also an episode in the og anime where they teased Mewtwo and Giovanni’s relationship. ;)
AFAIK, the only canon movies to the series are The FIrst Movie, The Mewtwo Returns Movie, and The 5th movie.
Mewtwo is seen blowing up Giovanni's HQ in the anime proper, causing Ash to face Jessie and James in the Virdian Gym after Gary tells Ash about getting destroyed by a Pokemon he's never seen before that absolutely frightened him.
In Mewtwo Returns, Mewtwo decides not to erase Ash's memories.
And, the City from the 5th movie, as well as some characters from it show up in the very final season of Pokemon.
Couple movies like to tease the next gens by having new Pokemon appear. First movie had Donphan, Marill and Snubull. This one had Slowking

I enjoy this Pokémon movie very much, as it is my favorite of all. From the legendary Pokémon action to the amazing ocarina song that plays in the movie, The Power of One is a beloved classic of mine.

@@namesdontmattergaming2756 the fact there are two different versions of the same movie doesn’t make them non-canon especially since the it’s the exact same story with the only difference being the Pokemon featured.
Also the second MewTwo appears in the anime and has it’s origins explained, not to mention that there being a second MewTwo has absolutely no relevance to whether or not the movie’s canon.

I believe there was a straight to DVD release called Mewtwo returns where the gang meet up with him again and he remembers them… it’s… okay. I only watched it once and stopped watching the films shortly afterwards

Fun Fact: Lugia was meant to be a movie-exclusive Pokémon. It was created specifically for this film and later ended up in the games without the anime writers being told beforehand.
Apparently the same can be said with any of the Main Legendary Pokemon and new Pokemon that appeared in the various Pokemon films besides Lugia such as Entei, Celebi, Suicuine, Latios & Latías, Jirachi, Deoxys, Lucario, etc.
Those new Pokemon (including Lugia) were just teasers for their appearances in the next upcoming Pokemon games that were slated to appear in or earned through a special game event promotion.
And Lugia and Ho-Oh were the mascots for Silver and Gold.
All of those were created for the games but got promoted in the movies. Lugia was created *specifically* for this movie.
@@wikiuser92 But Lugia still became the legendary main Pokemon for _Pokemon Silver_ and one of the Johto Legendaries at the end of the day.
Frankly, their hasn’t been ANY Pokemon (legendary or not legendary) that I’m aware that were meant to be "movie-exclusive" (meaning not earned anywhere else either game through promotion or download or in the Pokemon anime).
The closest I say that is a movie-exclusive were the unique shiny variants of Entei, Raikou and Suicune for the _Zoroark_ movie, and Dada Zarude from _Secrets of the Jungle_ even though like you said they were earned via a game promotion download. However, the only game-exclusive Pokemon created specifically for a Pokemon game and not found any other Pokemon media was Dark Lugia for _Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness_
@@EChacon The difference between everything else and Lugia is that, like it was said, Lugia was created *specifically* to star in this movie, without plans to add it to the games. Those other Pokémon were created to be added to the games from the start and only got movies made about them to promote them.

They do, in the current series Galarian Moltress shows up and plays a significant role

Not exactly, it’s true that most of the movies are canon to the anime but despite there being two different versions both of the Victini movie are technically canon. “I Choose You” and the movies that came after are the only ones that aren’t canon to the anime.
