Let's talk about my experience living in Korea and speaking minimal Korean (spoiler: it's hard) and how much Korean you should learn before you move!

this is such an interesting video! i relate to you a bit as i'm also living abroad right now, but in a spanish speaking country. i also live in a smaller town, and i'm v literally the only english speaking foreigner here hahah and im veg too!! but luckily here, its really not hard to find veg options as its a pretty progressive country. what you said about not being able to express your personality well due to the lang barrier really stuck out to me bc i feel the same and it kinda sucks :')
It's so hard sometimes! It sucks when you actually have something to say but all you can do is laugh and nod because you don't know the right vocabulary🥲
I can relate totally to your feeling of not being able to express yourself here in Korea. Please know you are not alone in that lonely space. Another BIG reason about communicating in Korean that is difficult is the nuance (as you mentioned) and the cultural differences, which relates to language. The cultural differences leads to different thinking and attitudes, thus trying to converse in a language is so difficult - don't want to accidentally offend anyone.
BTW, I am from the U.S. and have been living here a little over 2 years and still struggling to learn the Korean language and their different thinking. 😢. Cheers to you for sharing here. ❤

I feel Only travel don't need to know Korean. I feel like that if not go very small town
That can be true! Big cities have a lot more English

It can be quite difficult in small towns or villages compared to big cities! South Korean food has LOADS of vegetarian options and usually you can just ask for no seafood or meat to be added like pajeon :) I hope your experience improves!
Thank you for your kind words! I think my segment about food allergies was a bit misunderstood by people ^^; I've actually been able to eat tons of food in Korea, and I've been having a great time! However I do often have to talk to the restaurant staff about what's in the food, so I was trying to warn people with restrictions or allergies that they should practice that vocabulary so they're prepared to have those conversations 😊 you seem pretty knowledgeable about korea, have you lived/visited here before? If so (and if you're comfortable sharing), I'd love to know where! I'm always looking for travel recommendations
I wanna move to korea, im currently learning korean and it is quite easy and challenging. But, good luck on learning korean and hope you reach fluency!!

a friendly reminder : we have a lot of food that doesn't have meat in it
because back in the day we were very pool and barely get a chance to eat meat
So, i'm sure you would find some food that fit you
(we use to bag American soldiers for chocolate back in the day.)

Yes! I have found many restaurants that have vegetarian food while living in Korea ^^ my meaning wasn't that there are no options for vegetarians, I just wanted to tell people that are traveling to korea to learn the correct vocabulary to talk to restaurant staff about allergies or food restrictions. I hope my videos can be helpful for you to learn English!
