A Middle Fork Monster - FLY FISHING the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River with Es and Gus...

  • Join Gus and Esther (Es) as they embark upon a catch and release fly fishing adventure above famous Snoqualmie Falls, in the middle fork snoqualmie river.
This quirky and light hearted video is especially successful for Gus, as he encounters a rare specimen that is well above average for the typical cutthroat trout caught in this fishery. But "Es" is far from skunked, as she pushes herself through a whitewater rapid crossing, despite some rather slippery feet. She DOES MANAGE to break a fly rod clean in half, and yet is somehow able to reel in a whitefish, and more! She also assists Gus in some roadside blackberry foraging, which becomes a tasty snack for "Dutes", the dog. Some apples were spotted on a tree close to the river but weren't quite ripe enough for an August morsel unfortunately!
This river is very special for many reasons, but for especially for Gus, as he points out the VERY FIRST HOLE he ever caught a fish on the fly rod. Now, 27 years later, he, Es, Duke, Addsters and Julie (the money maker shaker) take a day (or two) and revisit this "holy hole", on a spectacular summer day near North Bend, Washington. BUT... You'll just have to watch and see exactly how the magic unfolds in another fantastic episode of Fishandflywithgus, called "A Middle Fork Monster".

Wow that's a unit! Reminds me of when I got that 21 inch rainbow out of a Hood Canal river. It's so crazy to hook into a fish of that caliber when you're used to catching 8 inch dinks all day. Still haven't even seen a trout like that in any of my rivers years later. It's a memory you'll always cherish.

If we keep hunting and asking all the questions, and hunting for em some more, they’ll eventually turn up! I totally believe there’s still some lunkers around 🙏
